SEAL Target Geronimo by Chuck Pfarrer Book Summary

The controversial New York Times bestseller that tells the "engrossing account of the military operation that resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden." —Kirkus Reviews (starred)

On May 2, 2011, at 1:03 a.m. a satellite uplink was sent from Pakistan crackling into the situation room of the White House: "Geronimo, Echo, KIA." These words, spoken by a Navy SEAL, ended Osama bin Laden's reign of terror. SEAL Target Geronimo is the story of Neptune's Spear from the men who were there. After talking to members of the SEAL team involved in the raid, Pfarrer shares never-before-revealed details in an exclusive account of what happened as he takes readers inside the walls of Bin Laden's compound penetrating deep into the terrorist's lair to reach the exact spot where the Al Qaeda leader was cowering when the bullet entered his head. SEAL Target Geronimo is an explosive story of unparalleled valor and clockwork military precision carried out by the most elite fighting force in the world—the U.S. Navy's SEAL Team Six.

Don Schafer. Other than the first chapter or so, much of the first half of it was a history of the Green Berets, Delta, and Navy SEALS. I also agree with the previous comment about referring to them as Jedi's; once was fine but returning to the subject was too much. The book is more of a history of JSOC and the SEALS.

Poorly Researched. Son Tay Raid rehearsed in Omaha? The first tidbit that made me question this book. From that point forward, I had to call into question everything written in this book. In fact after I read that little tidbit, I went back and reread other parts that I had read through. Zarkari was killed when a JDAMS was dropped on the house he was in, not as the result of a drone strike. You would think that a someone who was writing a book and including things such as the Son Tay raid would have researched it better. BTW the Son Tay raid was rehearsed at Eglin AFB in Florida. Why? Well because there is an axiom in the military which says "Train as you Fight". If you are going to fight in jungle terrain (vietnam) you trian in jungle terrain (the closest you can come in the United States is Eglin AFB part of which encompasses the Everglades. Pfarrer either didn't bother to research this or didn't have enough respect for the buyers of the book to do the proper research. Those two little missteps caused me to question the rest of the book. And then two days later, the SEAL community calls the book a "pack of lies", and call into question Pfarrer himself. Save your money

Seems accurate, is very interesting & enlightening. I found the book creditable, interesting, and entertaining when it came to speculation about the political infighting around Bin Laden’s circle. Characterizing Seals as Jedi masters may help civilians visualize who these people are, but repeating the characterization was unnecessary and perhaps childish. Some readers may find Mr. Pfarrer’s style amateurish, neither adding or detracting from the story from my perspective. Yet that is one reason the book gets three stars from me. I appreciate Pfarrer's effort to build a macro perspective by interviewing his fellow Seals (assuming he is who he says he is and did as he says he did). Perhaps the most valuable information for the public is the tale of how Bush’s Administration failed to secure chemical weapons after invading Iraq, how that may yet be the tool of future terror attacks, and why the media, Bush, and Obama Administrations don’t want the information publicized. That may be why the Public Broadcast system conducted a nationwide alert for the first time since it was created. In my opinion, the account of Bush and Obama administration failures and coverups seems accurate, having seen similar events unfold from an inside perspective (how our leaders not only failed to stop nuclear weapon proliferation, but helped accelerate it). Unfortunately, the most politically astute are usually inept at getting real work done. Every now and then, politicians seem to bumble their way into a good decision, such as authorizing Neptune's Sphere. Then selfish ambition causes politicians to snatch defeat from a stunning victory, such as spoiling the intelligence from Nepune's Sphere or failing to secure Iraq's chemical weapons after a successful invasion. All of this is driven home by Pfarrer -- learn more by reading Pfarrer's book, which I recommend. Thanks to Seal Teams everywhere. May you and your families enjoy the fruits of your labor and dedication, remaining anonymous and healthy.

WOW an eye opener. It truly is astounding how much the truth is manipulated by the press and political hakes. The world owes Mr. Pfarrer a debt for this outstanding book. This is a must read!

SEAL Target Geronimo. A very insightful account of what occurred the night that Osama was exterminated. The SEAL team 6 is truly the best of the best, and for that I'm fortunate to the fact that they are on our side. Just last week this book was called a "lie" by the U.S. government, yeah right.....I would believe the exact opposite of what those nimrods say. Buy this book, it's great.

Good read!!. A+

Second hand. If you want to know what really happened, first hand, go read No Easy Day by Mark Owen. It was actually written by Seal that was on the ground during the raid.

This is an Important Book!. This book is a Great Read. But more than that, this book is an Important Book. Having lived and worked in the middle east for several years, I'm used to writers who don't understand Islam, or the 'jihadi's' (Note: I'm not Muslim, but have studied Islam extensively both as an intellectual curiousity and as a way to better 'get along' while living and working in an Islmamic country) This guy gets it. He speaks with the authority that comes from serious study of excellent sources. The discussion on Seal Teams and their 'operations' is fascinating and interesting--and the events he covers in detail are nowhere covered so well. I read a book or two a week, and this one is far and away the best book I've read this year. Highly recommended!

Top shelf. Pfarrer once again distinguishes himself as a preeminent author and expert on special operations, specifically, of course, the famed bunch known only as DEVGRU or ST6 to the world. A former leader of the group himself, he also demonstrates a keen grasp of geopolitics and war fighting around the world. This particular page turner (also recommended is his personal memoir) takes us inside the mysterious compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, where Osama bin Laden was living in peaceful exile. That is, until Mr. Pfarrer’s brothers arrived and sort of, let’s say upset the applecart. Best in class. All that he’s allowed to tell, and then some.

TERRIBLE. Don't bother! The author can't even get his facts right about historical SpecOps Missions...I quit reading after the 1st chapter.

Awesome.. Enjoyed it!

Are you kidding me?. We have a saying in the SEAL Teams about the 90-10 rule. It goes: 90% of the guys that make it through BUD/S training are solid Operators and go on to do great things. The other 10% are constantly bringing the community and their team down. We are always trying to cull the 10% out of the herd. In the military these guys are commonly referred to as “strap hangers”. You make up your own mind, but after talking to friends in the SEAL community that are still on active duty (and the SOCOM Press Release) Chuck Pfarrer (author) is clearly falling into the 10% category in my opinion. His clenched fists are grabbing at the straps of the good men that participated in this operation. It makes me sick to my stomach that this guy (FYI-anyone that co-wrote that lame Charlie Sheen screen play for Navy SEALs should be shot on sight) is lying. Why didn’t he just publish this as a work of fiction? It would have sold just as many copies. Even worse is that this news will surely drive his sales into the hundreds of thousands, if not millions of copies sold. Also, the conspiracy freaks will be sure to latch onto this literary piece of garbage and argue for its existence into oblivion. My advice: don't buy lies.

Seal Target Geronimo. The book was outstanding. It gave a factual history of the SEALs, and provided enough insight to the take down of Geronimo, to safeguard the SEALs identity. The latter should have been used by our president and his staff, as they went out on the late night tv shows to say how they did it and identified the source that took down Geronimo. As a retired Marine, I know how sensitive it can be to have higher echelon of personnel micro managing your operation, and once again I salute these brave men for completing their mission and bringing back all their members. I will suggest this book to all my retired Marines and civilian counterparts.

Outstanding. If you are into the politics of the forming of a terrorist then this is the book for you. Great job on all levels.

Wow.... The President of the USA does not know who pulled the trigger on OBL Yet, this author has, "first hand accounts," of what happened from the brave men who carried this out??? I doubt it. When reading this book think of it as a novel and not an actual account of what happened on May 02, 2011.

Good Book with some opinions mixed in.. This is a great read. Sometimes the author is putting his opinion in too much but it's not any reason to not read this book. Definitely purchase.

Seal target Geronimo. This story could not be told more authoritatively .

Not much. Nothing new... Too much filler. Only one chapter about the actual raid
