On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?

Seriously?. This is awful! Omg those diary entries from Amy! I can't finish it.

Love😍. My favorite book!

Terribly Disappointing. I found the writing to be extremely juvenile. Every time I put this book down I dread picking it back up. I love reading, but this book felt like such a waste of time.

Disappointed with the ending. The book was pretty good and it was a page turner throughout the book but I do not appreciate the way it ended. I feel like there was a lot put into the book for the author to end it as it did.

Good. It was a good read and enjoyed every bit of it

Easy read. Another great book!

Don't waste your time. After hearing all the good reviews, I was excited to read this book. I don't know why it got even one good review. None of the characters were at all likable, the story was completely unrealistic. Half way through the book I stopped caring about how it was going to end and simply wanted it to end.

Overhyped! Thrilling story, poor writing. I have loved reading from a very young age. I found Flynn’s style to be painfully boring to read, despite my anticipation of the dramatic story unfolding. I grew tired of trying to finish it, and I’m never one to stop reading a book before completion.

It doesn’t get any better than this!. It doesn’t! Second time through and I’ll read it again I’m sure in another couple of years!

Pretty Good. Very manipulative story. I think it was hyped up too much. Going to watch the movie now!

Intense. This author is amazing.

Loved this booked!. This was a great book. It was extremely well written and I was so sucked in I read it in under 24 hours. Even with the ending (which doesn't go the way we want) I didn't see it as "lazy" like some others did I saw it as chilling and different.

The movie is actually better than the book -. I'm an avid reader, and always watch movies of books I enjoyed. Reading is always more in depth, detailed, interesting than the movie. *Not in this case* 1st chapter of the Grapes of Wrath about the turtle crossing the dirt road kind of detail. BORING! The shallow and uninteresting characters drag on and on. The movie is cheaper to rent and far more entertaining than this horrid read.

Best Book I’ve Read. I’ll admit, I had seen the movie way before reading this book and I am blown away by both the film AND this book. More detailed, even more intense, and so many differences that didn’t make it into the film that I thoroughly enjoyed. I would say this is probably the best book I have read recently — I couldn’t put it down and I’m sad it’s ended. Looking forward to reading more from this author. 10/10 rating.

Torturous, all but 10 pages. To say the first half was slow, would be an understatement. Saying "I just didn't care for this novel" would be a bald-faced lie. It was as though the first and second halves were written by completely different people. The first half was akin to wading through molasses carrying a 50 lb. nap sack against 70 mph wind. However, giving up would've left me forever wondering if I'd missed the best part of the story. You know what? There wasn't one. I'd like to have the wasted hours added back to my life on Earth -- or at least a mind eraser to help me forget about these self-indulgent sociopaths forever.

AWESOME!. I have never read a book with so many unbelievable twists and turns. Just when you imagine the outcome, you are headed in another direction. I couldn't put this book down, and I am recommending it to others.

Disturbing... yet satisfying. The book itself is pretty interesting and something that isn't easy to put down... but at the same time its going to tug at all your values and make you really wonder whose side you want to be on and then hate ourself for being on either side. It's pretty intense. I think that it does do a great job in illustrating the difficulties that both men and women have in respect to one another within some relationships, though both side's responses to the negative is blown waaaayyy up for the viewer's entertainment. The book is a little explicit in regards to sex and language so that is something to keep in mind before purchasing the book. Not saying that it's good or bad, just because it's one of those books that will become what you make of it.

Interesting but unexpected ending. It's kind of a story that has unexpected ending.

melodiousmichael. Hard to believe this book was a bestseller. Boring story, unlikable characters and poorly written. I will never read a book by this author again.

BORING!!. This was one of the most boring, annoying, and useless books I have ever read. The characters were just plain unlikable and whiny, and I almost quit reading it for good on numerous occasions. I heard the movie was better than the book, and I don't see how that could be possible unless the screenwriter rewrote entire story. Total waste of time and money!

Clever, but exhausting. Well, overall its a fun read, very well written with some razor sharp observations and clever phrasing. Gillian Flynn is obviously very talented. But...the story is so deeply cynical and amazingly profane. I'm certainly no prude but there were more F-bombs and C-words here than several Scorcesse films combined . And as I neared the end, I was ready for it all to be over. The two lead characters are so despicable, and I was tired of being their heads. I just wanted to take a gun and shoot them both to put them (and myself) out of misery

Worth the read!. So so good! Amazing twist! I loved it. Couldn’t put it down!

Amazing. Amazing...just like all of Gillian Flynn's work.

Worth your time. Very well written. I love Gillian Flynn's figurative language. The characters were multidimensional and realistic. Definitely not overhyped. I avoided it for a long time just because it's so popular, but I liked it way more than I expected.

Gone. Girl. I am a avid reader and will read just about any thing I can get my hands on. But I found this book very difficult to stay with. It had a poor plot and failed to keep my attention.

Great book!. Awesome, easy read. For adults, but you must be pretty open minded to read the book.

Love her books!!. Amazing

Too much detail….. Tedious.

By Adventures with Brianne. This book was a good read! It kept me on my toes throughout the whole book. There were so many things that went on in the story, and you never knew what was going to happen next. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a twisted tale, as well as someone who loves a little thriller with a little mystery. It is a twisted romance novel that makes you want to learn what happens next.

Gone girl. I want to throw this book out of the window

I still hate the ending. It's thrilling and shocking book with some shocking twist and turns. Although I still hate the ending.

Gone girl. A book where you hate all parties for their stupidity. And an awful non-ending.

ALMOST MASTERPIECE. A good book, probably the best book, she will write. It depicts Amy as a suave and sophisticated New Yorker, who is slightly anti-American, in regards to traditional values, and a little too much focus on PC for my liking, with a steady jaundiced eye towards those people, who love God and Country. An example, as Amy points out in reference to a female, whom she meets duirng her travels: “Her bookshelves were stocked with coffee-table crap: We Remember 9/11.” Also, at times, the italics duirng a conversation are not clearly evident, if the speaker is talking to themselves or out loud. It could have been a masterpiece, she missed the mark though.

Horrible. Horrible ending

Don’t waste your time. I have enjoyed other books by this author, but this one was awful. The story began normal and interesting, then morphed into something ridiculous and unbelievable, with the main characters being people who couldn’t exist. Unless, I guess, if people don’t have anything even resembling a normal relationship. For the rest of their lives.

Phenomenal. I have never written a review before. This is my first and it’s because the book was so astounding. This book has so many twists and turns and the author weaves you through them flawlessly and guides you to what she wants you to feel at that point in the book. You hate a character until you don’t, you love others and she plays with the antagonist and protagonist roles in a way I have never seen done before. They are fluid. Highly recommend to anyone that likes a page turner. My only critique is that I felt empty at the very end. Left wanting more. Or a different ending. But the author earned the right throughout this masterpiece to end it anyway she pleased and while it wasn’t the ending I hoped for it was true to the story. I hope this helps., if you are reading my review. If you are undecided please let me help you. Read this book.

Brilliant. I enjoyed every minute of this book!

Good read. Despite the bad reviews, I really enjoyed this. The ending wasn't the best, I can agree with that. I feel like the ending suits the characters and the situation well. I would recommend.

Great Book, Disappointing Ending. It was totally worth the hype! I finished reading this book in about two days and up until the reveal I couldn’t figure out what happened to Amy. I thought this book was better than The Girl on the Train (which I read before this) and was a little more twisted. He really thought of everything in this story. The only thing I really didn’t like about the book was the ending…I was SO disappointed.

Not for Everyone. Not ever read a book like this. I hope I never do again. It is very very dark.

That Really Happen?. When I first picked up the book, I thought it was a little predictable, but I was so wrong! Loved it! Wish it didn’t end!

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. A very thrilling book and it has you on the edge of your seat!

Disappointing ending. I really liked the premise of this book and it was a nice read, but the ending was terrible! What are the readers supposed to think when the person that the author makes us hate ends up triumphing? Blech.

Just amazing. Amazing! My favorite book!

Horrible ending. I actually enjoyed the book, but the ending was horrible.

loved iy. oh my freaking god i loved this book soo much and the movie is even better if you like horror this book and movie is for u

Disappointing end. Fast paced, couldn’t put it down and then about 3/4 of the way through it slowed down a lot. I almost skipped to the end and then it just stopped. I was very disappointed in how it ended. It wasn’t a good ending that left you thinking, it was the kind that made you wonder why you read it in the first place.

Now time to watch the movie. This book was a wild ride. Twist after twist. Not going to lie, after the first twist with the husband I was so mad that I stopped reading for a week. It was just that good. 10/10

Don't believe these other reviews!. Gone Girl is an astonishing psychological thriller from a master of suspense. Never a dull moment. Worth every page. Some People are upset, because the book doesn't have an "ending that satisfies." Most real true crimes don't. This is supposed to be as realistic as possible. Enjoy the book! You're in for a ride of a lifetime!

Awesome Writing. It’s funny that most of the bad reviews are expressing the feelings the author wanted you to feel and I love that. Both main characters are not good people, and that really screws with you throughout the book.

Not impress. Thought it would be a fantastic read. I had to force myself through it just to be completely disappointed in the ending

Gone girl. Forced myself to read the whole thing and that's all I'll say

Gone Girl. I started and finished four different books while I was trying to complete this book. as another reviewer noted the start of this book was hard to slog through. Once I made it through a very boring start, I started to get pulled into the story. It was different, and once finished I enjoyed it.

first part better than the last. it gets kind of silly and the writing deteriorates

GOONE GIRRL!!!. It was a well written book😊. It will keep u going and attach till the end because for every page, the author has done a great job. Its full of twist till from the very last page. Amy and Nick are very unique characters but touches true stories of women and men. It also tackles how justice become unjust by how Nick portrays the character. Overall its an awesome novel, which for every dollar spend to buy this book is all worth it😊

Great read. Slow start but then I couldn't put it down. It's a real twist and turns novel and I was constantly jumping from Nick's side to Amy's side throughout it. Great points of view captured. Big cliffhangers and shocking turns. Really captivating, enjoyable read with lots of interesting points regarding gender, psychology & human behaviour.

Ok read. Not worth all the hype

Gone Girl. Loved every page up until the very last one, a very unsatisfactory and somewhat lazy ending.

Page turner but.... This book was a great read however the ending was a real disappointment. It was like s Gillian said "ok need to wrap this up, let's end it here" This was the first of Gillian's books I have read.

Gone girl. Enjoyed Flynn's first two books- this one is better. Loved the two person perspective and the twist was well done. Definitely a good read !

reminds me of my first wife who suffered from multiple personality disorder. Very scary. gilliian nails it, well done, have to see the movie now for sure

Just finished gone girl. I read a lot & has been a while before found a book so entirely captivating and a 'can't put down'. Loved how this was a entirely 'raw truth' look at relationships. Recommend this book entirely.

Awesome book. It was awesome book I loved it good job

Not what I thought it would be. This book was a great read! Loved the two-sided story of husband and wife. The twist was unexpected. Can't wait to read more of this authors books.

Couldn't put it down!. I really enjoyed this book. My favourite read this year by far! I loved the 2 sided narrative, kept the pages turning so I could find out what happens next. I'm still a bit bothered by the ending, I expected more out of the character I thought I knew. But still didn't see it coming so the ending was unique I guess. I highly recommend this book!

Mesmerizing. I can’t begin to explain how much I love this book. I started reading this with my boyfriend, and we were hooked from the first page. Such a page turner, and infinitely better than the movie. Must read!

One Ending I Wouldn't Mind The Movies Changing. I downloaded this book after seeing a few posters for it on the subway. I hadn't really heard much about it other then they were making it into a movie. The first half of the book is really great. It's told in two parts: one being present time with the husband and the second part being from the diary of the wife. It's really interesting to see the two characters in the light they see themselves vs. the light that their partner sheds. The second half of the book is where is starts to taper off. I really felt like it was kind of just thrown together, not really thought through with the same detail that the beginning had. If it wasn't for the first half I would have rated this book 3 stars.

Gone Girl. I enjoyed this book right up until the end...but what a disappointment....it was as if the author had wanted to get the book over with quickly.

Good read. This is my first Flynn book. It was good. But not great. There were at times a very suspenseful read. It took 3 attempts to start the book. I have never read a book with such a poor ending. Very dissatisfying.

Gone Originality. I really did want to like this book however it lacked imagination. Every character seemed to be pulled out of the news - shades of convicted wife killer Scott Petersen, news sensationalist Nancy Grace....you get the picture. Did the author not have the talent to form her own characters? The storyline was not gripping, definitely not a pageturner. In fact I had to force myself to complete this book. The ending was a complete letdown. Overall, I found this book to be very amateurish and regret wasting my money on it.

Wow just wow.. Take out the first quarter of this book and throw it away. Then the entire book would be extremely captivating! Other than the boring start, this book was so captivating with twist, turns, shocks, and more. I'm still out to lunch on the ending but at least I can say "didn't see that coming." What a sick, twisted story (in a complimentary way).

Meh.... The storeyline was good, the end seemed rushed. I was disappointed by the ending it could have been so much more!

Gone girl. The book was great, excellent writing . The ending was meh... still a fantastic read though !

Gone Gurl. Loved it, could not put it down.

Ending. Great book, just wish it had a better ending :(

Fantastic!. Knew it had great reviews but wasn't expecting it to be this good..loved the twist !!

Gone girl. I absolutely loved this book. Could not put it down, it's the best book I have read in years and I would heartily recommend it to anyone. Lyla devreeze

Great read. I really liked this book. It goes back and forth between narrators so you get the whole story. Enjoyable murder mystery novel

Gone girl. Couldn't put it down and smartly written.

Loved it. Literally could not stop reading! The ending was a bit of a let down but over all two thumbs up!

Gone Girl a GREAT READ. I honestly did not know what to expect when I downloaded this book. I was prepared to be disappointed and to be truthful expected not to like it. Started reading just after I got on the plane for a 10 hour flight. Finished before I landed. This is an excellent read, well developed characters well paced and well worth the read. Money well spent

Maybe if there is a part two the author can get it right. I started this book after reading the reviews, almost all said the beginning was boring and the ending "iffy" but good in the middle. I found the whole book boring, it's a mash of a couple of movies and a CNN show. I was never surprised by any "twist" or "turn" all very predictable. It read like an authors first novel, desperately trying to fool the reader. The ending was so unbelievable it was almost comical. As if anyone gets away with what these people in this book did. Some characters were a waste of space not really adding to the story like the father of one of the main characters. Perhaps the movie will be better than the book the opposite of what usually is. And the author will do a part two and get it right the second time around. I would not recommend this book.

Great but. Great read with lots of twists. Right up to the last page. Crappy, lazy ending.

Amazing!. This was honestly just a great book from start to finish. I could not put it down! It was a great read and I would recommend it to anyone! Fantastic!

Frustrating. I read thrillers for entertainment. And this book had it until the end. I hated how this book was ended. I guess I was really not supposed to be entertained. I was supposed to "feel" like being entertained until I find out I am not. Was a waste reading it. I will give the author credit for her writing style, it was unique. But seriously, I don't read so I can give my opinion about society and politics stuff and what not. Kinda disappointed.

Amazing. This book leaves you wanting more!

Ugh. Seriously such a disappointing ending!! Started off slow, then hooked me and I couldn't put it down, then such a dull ending. Ruined a good book

A good Read. A very exciting, page turning book. Ending may be a bit disappointing

Offensive. I found the story line fairly interesting after the first half but all I found all the offensive language quite disgusting. I don't think it added a thing to the book and I will never read another book from this writer if you can call this writing.

Loved it. I could not put this book down. I have no idea how anyone could have felt any differently! Flynn is a witty and brilliant writer. Loved her style.
