Horrible. Read 75% then gave up. Too much superfluous narrative and philosophizing that has nothing to do with the plot. The last Burke book that I'll ever read.

Creole Belle. Having read almost all of Mr. Burke's books, I would rate this as one of the top three stories. The descriptive words tell a story and paint a picture of South Louisiana this is correct in all aspects. Being from Louisiana and having lived in New Iberia, I love his accuracy of locals and places. They all exist (or did exist at one time). I read the book from cover to cover in one sitting. Creole Belle. I've read many of James Lee Burke's books and enjoyed most of them. This story, however, is filled with excessive philosophical comments that take away from the story. Far, far too many words that did not add, but instead distracted. I kept wanting the story to continue, rather go off on another useless side trip. I was disappointed!

Creole Bell. Now, this is what a novel should be. My only complaint is, James, get over the BP spill.

James Burke has done it again!. Creole Belle is a hard- hitting, no-holds-barred adventure that is a signature for Burke fans. I stayed up all night because I could not put it down. It's especially interesting that Clete's daughter appears. The characters are very well developed and the plot develops in a realistic way. You can almost smell the rain and the camellias.

Excellent. GREAZt STORY great believable and likable characters.Great writing, I can feel and smell the BAYOU. Do purchase this book and enjoy the ride. LADY PEPPER ROSE

Creole Belle. Just as there has been a drought in the summer weather this year, so has there been in summer reading. Mr. Burke has brought us some wonderful relief with this splendid read.

Burke at his best!. Having read all the DR novels by Burke, this has to be one of his best! Burke can explore the human psyche like no other, leading us thru the darkest side of humanity through out history & our capability to excuse horrific deeds dealt to us & our planet, by corporations & corrupt politicians alike, in our quest for wealth & dominance in a world that needs oil to run on! He lays out for the reader a blueprint for our struggle to keep evil at bay, leaving us with a fine foundation to continue to fight for all that is good & right, showing us all the natural beauty & wonder that the human race has not yet destroyed in our southernmost boundaries, leaving a light on for the reader to find his way out of our darkest past! Yes, it's a good guy versus bad guy book, but nothing so simple as the cliche implicates. A must read!

Too Political. This was a terrific story, like all the others I've read in the Robicheaux series. What I found incredibly annoying was the author's use of the book as a platform for political ranting. If he feels the need to pontificate he should use an appropriate medium.

Only the best.. James Lee Burke never fails. But, this has to be one of his very best creations.

Burke's Benediction. If one wishes, negative things can be said about this book. It's too long; it's preachy; parts of it stretch believability. I don't choose to do that. One word sums up Mr. Burke's story. That word is "Awesome!". James Lee Burke's love for people, ordinary people trying to live their lives in peace, his love for the Gulf Coast of Louisiana, and his value of friendship and family all come hurtling across the pages. This may Mr. Burke's last book. If so, it's one to be treasured. Oh, and the story is a great thriller, too. Yay!!!

Another Offering from a Master. Not Burke's best or most poetic, but beautiful nonetheless. The plot falls apart toward the end--or is the chaotic nature if the narrative just a reflection of the chaos around Robicheaux, the narrator? Regardless: the prose is gorgeous & sweet.

Creole Belle. An excellent read!! This book will keep you guessing and definitely hold your interest until the last word! Highly recommend it.

Creole Belle. Hard to believe JL Burke can wring yet another can't-stop-reading epic out of the backwaters of Louisiana, but in Creole Belle he has indeed. Clete Purcel's illegitimate daughter adds a taser jolt of electricity as a terrific new character and Dave Robicheaux pulls in his own family to a precarious new degree. JLB is a bit long-winded at times in his mind-reading/philosophic excursions, but this is one of his best novels.

Creole Belle marvelous !!!. In my humble opinion, one of the best Burke has written to date. The characters good or evil have no equal in any other book by any other author. His language and characterization is uncanny, and can create a mood that dares you to close the cover of the book. The fiction created in this book, the storyline,the situations defy anything you might have read to date.

Creole Belle. This is likely Burkes' best book in along time, perhaps the best ever, and I have read them all. As usual, I find myself re-reading a page or paragraph, marveling at his ability to write descriptive phrases that bring alive the bayous and surroundings of southern Louisiana and the people that populate it. I know it will be a while before he graces us with another, so I will have to be content to re-read his earlier efforts. Bravo! Richard Smith, Atlanta

Creole Belle. Burke is simply the best writer of our time. His characters become our friends, or enemies. His descriptions of sights, smells and events make the reader feel as if he were there.

Creole belle. Soooo have never read this author before reading this literary delight of a thriller mystery. Will read more of the these two New Orleans detectives deeds and misdeeds! I did have difficulty following the dialogue, as I did not know the authors style yet. Also complicated characters, but interestingly different.

Mesmerizing. James Lee Burke is truly a magical writer. In one instance he can be in the midst of a rip roaring gunfight and then break into the most beautiful and lyrical prose I have ever read. His characters are full developed and demonstrate an amazing degree of self analysis and fully accept the consequences of their actions. The Bobsey twins are back in the saddle for another soul searing and soul searching opus which will leave the reader enthralled to the very last word.

Creole Belle. I have just read 2 of James's book ,I find them to move me in how I will not be changed by circumstances, but to live my faith fully each day. I just returned from working at medical clinic in Mexico City dump, my experience show me that they didn't need me as much as I needed them. I will continue to read .
