- Great Read!5 star

This story takes you on a journey of Italian love! This is an author who will pick you up and hold you until the final word. Definitely recommend!

- Written by a teenager?1 star

There’s no complexity, not one word I needed to lookup, boring dialogue, lifeless plot.

- Cute love story3 star

Difficult to read through some parts.

- Little more than a well-written Harlequin Romance2 star

The author creates a strong, creative, smart woman and then has this woman make the most ridiculous, weak-willed, give-up-everything-for-some-guy-you-met-for-five-minutes-a-hundred-years-ago, googly-eyed pre-teen girl decisions about her life. Made me want to throw my iPad across the room. If you like stories in which strong women give up everything to be with a poor guy because he's a hunk, then you'll like this book.

- Beautiful5 star

I loved this book!! I have not read any of Adriana Trigiani’s books before but I am lookig forward to reading more. The Italian scenery she describes is beautiful and vivid, and the characters I fell in love with. Truely an all time favorite for me.

- Shoemaker's Wife5 star

A superb tapestry of Italian family heritage woven into the fabric of immigrant adjustment to life in America... the blend of historical and cultural detail in the lives of this fictional family held me spellbound! I just wish I could have read beyond the last page to know how Enza's return to Italy turned out!

- The Shoemakers Wife4 star

A book about entire lifetimes. Thank you for after endearing the characters to me for then going beyond "they fall in love and get married". Also a heart warming book filled with history and real love.

- Don't bother2 star

Sappy and formulaic....it hooks you but then drags on relentlessly for another 400 pages.

Couldn't put this book down. What an amazing journey from Italy to New York. I highly recommend this book!

Very enjoyable. I did not want it to end!

- Good story4 star

I do like Adriana Trigiani's books. I found this a hard one to get into, but once I did I couldn't put it down.

- The Shoemaker's Wife5 star

I enjoyed this book so much. I am a second generation Italian American woman. My grandparents immigrated to the U.S. in the early 1900's. My father's mother came through Ellis Island. As a young child, my father and his brothers were placed in foster homes after their father died leaving his mother a widow with children she could not afford to feed. The early immigrants who came here worked so hard...family was everything.

- Like a 1940s movie2 star

Author's descriptive phrases were a little too much for me. However, I could overlook the flowery language but couldn't overlook the many, many chance meetings which drove the plot. Actually, I could predict where and when these would occur - and I don't credit myself a psychic! The ending too neat and tidy, really - 4 days? A disappointing read but not SO bad as I did finish the book. Perhaps if I had borrowed, rather than purchased it, I wouldn't have finished it.

- Exquisito!5 star

What a beautiful and moving story. Strength. Resilience. Determination. Confidence. Commitment. And love. Always love. Enza's life and struggles are exquisitely told with compassion and care. This is a true story from the heart. A "must read."

- The Shoemaker's Wife5 star

I just love a story told of family memories with a mixture of history (even if it is fictional). Having recently visited Ellis Island and New York City, I felt like I was there with them. Great story!

- It has its moments3 star

There are some redeeming qualities about this book. The descriptions of Italy is one of them. Another is the intimate look at life for immigrants in New Jersey and New York. On the other hand, much of the story telling is superficial and cloying. I forced myself to finish reading the book because I had paid for it.

- Loved it!5 star

I loved every page. A superb story. Kept my interest from beginning to end. I would recommend to anyone looking for a sweet story that's easy to keep track of.

- The Shoemaker's Wife5 star

A lovely love story, with well developed characters spanning continents and fascinating historical times. I found it quite captivating; families were revealed and the lives they lived took them from Italy to the U.S. and back... This book makes me want to book a trip to Italy to find the mountain, and maybe never return!

- Great start, disappointing ending3 star

I really enjoyed the entire process of the story unfolding in this literary gem. However, the last 50 pages felt rushed and disjointed, as if the author was just wrapping up loose ends instead of telling a story. What would have been an amazing book fell flat with such a rough and unpolished ending.

- The Shoemakers wife3 star

A sweet story about love, loss, struggle and survival. I love books about the struggle of emigrants in early 20th century America. It's an easy read. Although a somewhat predictable storyline, this book is heartwarming and inspiring.

- Love it!4 star

Beautifully written! Sang on a saprano! Leveled on an alto ended with a bravo! Bellismoe!

- The Shoemakers Wife5 star

I savored this book, didn't want it to end. It spoke to me in so many ways. I identified with it and lived vicariously through it. You will love it. I promise ! C.I.F.M.

- Great5 star

I loved this book. Another great read by Adriana.

- Good but sappy4 star

A bit sappy at times, but a great look into the past. If you want a book to make you feel good, this is the one. Well written.

- A great story4 star

This is a great story of love and loss, of life. A real tear jerker; keep the Kleenex handy.
