Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe Book Summary

Considered by many to be the first true English novel, Robinson Crusoe is the original castaway story—one man shipwrecked on a desert island with little but his wits and the available resources to sustain him. Written in 1719 by Daniel Defoe and based in part on the true-life accounts of actual marooned sailors of his day, the book was an immediate success and spawned a new form of storytelling.

This Top Five Classics illustrated edition includes 28 color plates by N.C. Wyeth and others, and another 17 black-and-white illustrations by artists from editions published from the 18th to the early 20th century.

Also featuring an introduction and brief author bio, this version of Robinson Crusoe holds treasures for readers young and old alike.

Entertaining. An entertaining story of a young man unwilling to listen to his father to enjoy the simple pleasures of a middle-class English citizen, who after one mishap after another is castaway on an island for over twenty years. Although a bit long in the center with details of survival and civilization, the narrative keeps the pages turning to see what's in store for the lonely Crusoe.

Great book!. I had to read this book for school, but very much enjoyed it! First of all it is very complete. The writer tells the story well and keeps things interesting. I also enjoyed the thoughts of Robinson Crusoe as he was on the island. He learned what was important. He also thought about God. He learned for himself more about him, and found out that God was taking care of him the whole time. Crusoe also learned what was really important. He learned that when it comes down to it. You only need very few things, food, water, clothes, a place to sleep(etc.). After that others things are optional. Anyway, I really enjoyed this book and I thought it had more detail then other books. I really like how it went In-depth into crusoe's thoughts. thanks for reading this...

There's a reason it's a classic. This was my first reading of this classic. I especially enjoyed the N C Wyeth illustrations. It is a very compelling story. I would have given it 5 stars except the structure and length of Defoe's sentences made it slow reading on occasion. The iBook version was excellent.
