King of Thorns by Mark Lawrence Book Summary

In book two of the Broken Empire trilogy, the boy who would be king has gained the throne—but the crown is a heavy weight to bear...

At age nine, Prince Honorous Jorg Ancrath vowed to avenge his slaughtered mother and brother—and to punish his father for not doing so. At fifteen, he began to fulfill that vow. Now, at eighteen, he must fight for what he has taken by torture and treachery.

Haunted by the pain of his past, and plagued by nightmares of the atrocities he has committed, King Jorg is filled with rage. And even as his need for revenge continues to consume him, an overwhelming enemy force marches on his castle.

Jorg knows that he cannot win a fair fight. But he has found a long-hidden cache of ancient artifacts. Some might call them magic. Jorg is not certain—all he knows is that their secrets can be put to terrible use in the coming battle...

Fast Paced. Eloquent. Enthralling.. The story of Jorg continues to build and build, only increasing its scope and in it's quality and depth. A story of redemption, quite intelligently hidden in a storm of wit and revenge. King of Thorns continues this idea thoroughly and precisely, not a word is wasted and feels similar to what I imagine would be pages upon pages of poetry, eloquently forming sentences, highs and lows, taking you exactly where you are suppose to. The depth continues, the importance continues, the redemption continues. We all will find ourselves in Jorg, intertwined with his story in one way or another. Perhaps this will be just a book to you, but perhaps it will become something much more to you, as it did for me.

Excellent. Amazing anti-hero,Jorg Ancrath is one of the best characters in fantasy today! These novels are action packed and loads of fun. The author's world building is in the same league as Brandon Sanderson. Buy this series!

King of Thorns. Genius characters and plot twists. Enthralling exploration of the dark side of heroism and the light side of Armageddon.

Great follow up!!!. Loved this book!!!

So we have passed the midway point.... What I loved about 'Prince of Thorns' is missing, but that is only because Mr Lawrence's world was unknown and therefore everything that flowed from it was a surprise. Also, the denouement of the first novel revealed so much that what came after that was logical and therefore became somewhat predictable. We have in the second novel of the series development that requires a deus ex machina for resolution and the promise of what is yet to come later in the series. I still enjoyed it, but it felt like the novel consisted only of a second act. It was the interlude before the real climax, the preparation for the actual main course to be served in the next novel. But don't misunderstand me, it was absolutely a worthwhile starter. The highlights included a better insight into Jorg, the lead character. He turned out be quite complex. We also gained a much better understanding of the world he resides in. In the end it is a continuation of what I loved about the first novel, only now I expected it and I understand that is part of build up towards the finale. I just wish I didn't have to wait so long for the third book in the series.

Brutal. Good sh**!

The villain hero done well!. In a similar vain to Moorecock's Elric, Jorg is a tortured villain-hero that you can't help but root for. A new twist on an old genre... Well crafted story, and a few surprises along the way.

Awesome Read!. This was just as good as Prince of Thorns. I can't wait for the next book!

Great read!!. I was happy to see the second book had a lot more length than the first. The story does jump around a lot but if you stay with it, it will not disappoint. I love the characters in this book series because of their will to act. For good, bad, or indifferent there is little hesitation. It's nice to read a series where the characters do not bulk over what needs to be done. It's definitely a breath of fresh air.

Amazing. Prince of thorns was great. King of thorns is better. It's unbelievable.

The King of Thorns. Phenomenal read!!!Cant wait for the Emperor of Thorns!!
