Arena 1: Slaverunners (Book #1 of the Survival Trilogy) by Morgan Rice Book Summary

“Shades of THE HUNGER GAMES permeate a story centered around two courageous teens determined to buck all odds in an effort to regain their loved ones. But the true strength in any story lies not so much in its setting and events as in how the characters come across, come alive, and handle their lives--and it's here that ARENA ONE begins to diverge from the predictable and enters the more compelling realms of believability and strength….ARENA ONE builds a believable, involving world and is recommended….for those who enjoy dystopian novels, powerful female characters, and stories of uncommon courage.”

The #1 Bestseller!

New York. 2120. American has been decimated, wiped out from the second Civil War. In this post-apocalyptic world, survivors are far and few between. And most of those who do survive are members of the violent gangs, predators who live in the big cities. They patrol the countryside looking for slaves, for fresh victims to bring back into the city for their favorite death sport: Arena One. The death stadium where opponents are made to fight to the death, in the most barbaric of ways. There is only one rule to the arena: no one survives. Ever.

Deep in the wilderness, high up in the Catskill Mountains, 17 year old Brooke Moore manages to survive, hiding out with her younger sister, Bree. They are careful to avoid the gangs of slaverunners who patrol the countryside. But one day, Brooke is not as careful as she can be, and Bree is captured. The slaverunners take her away, heading to the city, and to what will be a certain death.

Brooke, a Marine’s daughter, was raised to be tough, to never back down from a fight. When her sister is taken, Brooke mobilizes, uses everything at her disposal to chase down the slaverunners and get her sister back. Along the way she runs into Ben, 17, another survivor like her, whose brother was taken. Together, they team up on their rescue mission.

What follows is a post-apocalyptic, action-packed thriller, as the two of them pursue the slaverunners on the most dangerous ride of their lives, following them deep into the heart of New York. Along the way, if they are to survive, they will have to make some of the hardest choices and sacrifices of their lives, encountering obstacles neither of them had expected—including their unexpected feelings for each other. Will they rescue their siblings? Will they make it back? And will they, themselves, have to fight in the arena?

“Grabbed my attention from the beginning and did not let go….This story is an amazing adventure that is fast paced and action packed from the very beginning. There is not a dull moment to be found.”

--Paranormal Romance Guild {regarding Turned}

"I will admit, before ARENA ONE, I had never read anything post-apocalyptic before. I never thought it would be something I would enjoy….Well, I was very pleasantly surprised at how addicting this book was. ARENA ONE was one of those books that you read late into the night until your eyes start to cross because you don't want to put it down….It is no secret that I love strong heroines in the books I read….Brooke was tough, strong, un-relentless, and while there is romance in the book, Brooke wasn't ruled by that....I would highly recommend ARENA ONE.”
--Dallas Examiner

ARENA ONE is Book #1 in the Survival Trilogy, and is 85,000 words. Book #2 in the series, ARENA TWO, is now also available.

Good plot, too much filler, repetitive. The storyline is good, that's why I gave it 3 stars, just no real development of the other survivors or relationships. My real gripe is the repetitiveness of the book. It's bad, REALLY bad. Also, I feel like it gives a bit TOO much description in certain parts. I found myself skipping, not paragraphs, but MULTIPLE PAGES that were nothing more than scenery descriptions. It's filler overload. An example, when she enters the city & is describing it. We really don't need that much.

Loved it!. An excellent read, obviously intended for teens but definitely appeals to adults as well. I can't wait for the next one!

Repubs vs Dems. The background she gives for the war is that the evil Democrats drive the country to civil war. Her political bias is a little distracting.

Amazing!!!!=-D. This is one of the types of books that does not let go of attention. It was full of adventures, and it shows true bravery. This is one of my favorite books of all time, and I truly mean because I wish that it would NEVER end!!!! Can't wait to buy the next book.

This rocks. This book pones!! I love it is the perfect balance of gore and action!!! This rocks!!! Now she needs to hurry up and come out with the second one 8)

Arena 1. I am sorry, hitting a speeding car with a motorcycle and they just get up basically uninjured, couldn’t buy into it.

Simply divine!!!. I really love the action and how determined the characters were to find their siblings. Even if it meant death. Watch out hunger games! Here comes arena one!

Wow. You have done it again Morgan Rice another marvelous story. You are my favorite author

Awesome. Great book

Great new series!. I loved this new series. Waiting impatiently for the next in the series!!!

Awesome. So fast pased book

Review 4 this book. I admit so at the book isn't so bad but it seems like such copy of The Hunger Games. The author should really not make the plot so similar. If you haven't read the Hunger Games, the book will probably be really good.

Unoriginal and bad writing collide. Story is horrid and has no depth.

5 stars but.... It is a wonderful book except I wish it spent a little more time in the beginning about survival and the cottage, also if you are reading this and don’t like the book go check out my friend em garner’s book “Contaminated” and it’s sequel “Mercy Mode” it is also a post apocalyptic dystopian society story with romance and love and hope, you never want to put it down.

Worst book ever. She gets in a 70mph motorcycle crash and just walks away. So dumb

Time passer. Its a good book! It is poorly written, yet still worthy of my time. Both exciting & interesting, this book is good if you need something to pass the time

Great action book, some gore. It kept me on my toes the whole time and I even pulled an all nighter to finish this!!!

Pretty Good Read. Pretty good read! Interesting all-around, definitely kept me into it. With a well-constructed plot, dynamic characters, and pretty intense action, this book is a definite must-read. But be ye forwarned: Some sensitive elements are described a bit too much for my taste, though it's realistic, it's not completely necessary. Although it's supposedly a Hunger Games knock-off, there aren't too many things that really remind you of that book. Once the sequel starts to unravel, then you see some Hunger Games colors.

Wow!. This book grabbed my interest from the moment it started and did not let me down! Filled with twist, turns & nail biting events you wouldn’t want to put the book down either! A ton of reviews upset over events in the book but fail to remember, this is fictional and supposed to be thrilling. There are a great deal of typos as well but some things can be over looked if your not uptight and a perfectionist.

Arena 1. This book was by far the best book I have ever read!!!! I have always been a big fan of Cassandra Clare and Sherrilyn Kenyon, I never thought I would have another favorite author as amazing as this women writes. It was literally a book that kept me up reading through all hours off the night, even when I was getting up at three and four in the morning the next day. This book kept u reading and enjoying!!!! AMAZING!!!!

Childish and moronic. A colossal waste of time

Neat!. Title says all! This book is really nice, and I like the simpleness of the writing. Though I would've liked it more if the author made it a bit more descriptive.

👌. guud book :)

YOU SHOULD...... I didn't read the book but it has some good reviews so I guess I recommended but I think it would've been better if she fell in love with one of the gangsters. I think it would make the book more entertaining. I'm planning one starting a blog reviewing teen books and maybe a youtube as well. I hope so I'm just a little kid so yeah I'm 13so yeah I hope my parents will let me. Well don't let me stop you from reading this book. If I do get a Blog up I will let you know.

Amazing!!. I really enjoyed this book a lot! It was by far one of my favorite books to read! A must read!!!

Arena One Rating! 💗💗💗💗. I Loved This Book Soooo Much!!! 💗💗💗💗💗

Good read. Very suspenseful, easy read, impossible to put down.

Good books. Too many typos!. Love the series but the editing/proofing is terrible. I find errors very distracting and it’s sad that I even have to write this review. Typos and errors on every other page from beginning to end. Otherwise, great books full of action and adventure.

Why did I pay for this?. I read a lot of book, a lot are stupid. This one just kept repeating itself. I know it’s not realistic but come up with a new line “ last second I moved” Many times saying opposite things in a row. Where do I return this?

Okay read, but a lot of improvement needed. The book was okay, with a fair number of issues. (These critiques apply for the whole series). One of the things that annoyed me was the number of typos. This was true for the whole series. One example was using “site” instead of “sight.” Beyond that, there were contradictions and small details that got changed to make the plot work. For me, keeping the small details straight is part of what makes a good book great, and this one failed pretty bad. Beyond that, good books usually have a believable plot; in this series, the number of strokes of luck is honestly a bit annoying. Fourth thing, the whole love triangle with Ben and Logan was just poorly done and had way too much time dedicated to it, and to solve the problem, Logan just died, instead of something like the Hunger Games, where the problem was actually addressed without a cheep cop out. Also, it seems that Logan was based off of Gale in The Hunger Games, and that also detracted from the book. For me, at least, the combo of poorly imitating characters from a good book, the typos, the mixed small details, and the unusual good luck so that the plot could work all added up to give a feeling of a cheep knockoff. Thank goodness it was cheep.

Brooke is a Bad *** *****. This is my second book read by Morgan Rice & what I love about this author is how he sets the scense so well, it is detailed (however not overly so), organized, crisp & on pointe. The books I have read by this author I feel like I’m right there with the character seeing, feeling, hearing everything that is happening in that moment. This book starts with a great introduction of the main character Brooke who you know right from the start is a realist, perfectionist, is harder on herself than anyone else could ever be, a desparate hunger to keep her family together, & a survivor. From here you have what can only be described as an EPIC car chase that may only be riviled by the Blues Brothers classic scene. This book takes you a ambitious / heroic journey from the action packed car chases, to the Mad Max Thunderdome & the burning desire to keep a family together & never give up hope. This is the first book in a three part series & I would highly recommend picking up this book & series. I could even see this book being turned into a movie at some point.

Excellent. Really great book that I couldn't pull my eyes or mind away from!!!

Arena one. COULD NOT STOP UNTIL I WAS DONE!

Arena One The Survival Series by Morgan Rice. I’m definitely a dedicated fan of Morgan Rice’s #1 bestselling Survival series!! It’s easy to understand how this author has created a huge #1 bestselling series plus a USA Today Bestselling writer consisting of fantasy stories. You get hooked on the strong female protagonist that makes you want to be inside the story yourself to help save everyone in a lost world consisting of young adults trying to survive an apocalypse world. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next iBook in this very addictive series!! KSW

Loved it!. Great read!

Some Spoilers Below. While the concept of Arena One is intriguing and the story is well thought out, the actual book is very poorly written and repetitive. At least ten of the thirty(ish) chapters ended with Brooke passing out, or wondering if she was about to die. There is also very little to no character development. Brooke meets Ben, barely speaks to him, and then decides she likes him. The same thing then happens with Logan. Again, the concept of the book is very interesting and worth a shot, but the execution is cringeworthy and mediocre at best.

Love love love!. What a fantabulous read! I couldn’t bear to put it down. Can’t wait to read the rest of this series.

Good storyline, poorly written. I really liked the storyline, which is what the 2 stars are for, but it has been a while since I have read one so poorly written. I could not count the amount of times the same fraise was used on the same page. There were too many car accidents, with the main character managing to walk away, which made it seem rather unrealistic, I know fiction is unrealistic by nature, but this is a bit over the top. Good thing it is not priced to high, but I won't be going back for seconds when there are so many other good books out there.

Great read. Another great read recommend reading this

Good read. Took a little to get into but it soon picks up a relentless pace. Ended up reading it in one night 'til the early hours. Keen for the next one.

Awesome. I have one word.....WOW!!!!

Boring and poorly written. Unexciting, too many plot holes. It’s a shame because I have enjoyed her other series.

Good idea, badly executed. I'm really sorry and I do hate to be so critical, but I've never read anything so badly written, I just hope it was a someone starting out, too many mistakes that could have been fixed if edited properly also.
