Iced by Karen Marie Moning Book Summary

#1 New York Times bestselling author Karen Marie Moning picks up where Shadowfever leaves off with Iced, the sixth book in her blockbuster Fever series.

The year is 1 AWC—After the Wall Crash. The Fae are free and hunting us. It’s a war zone out there, and no two days are alike. I’m Dani O’Malley, the chaos-filled streets of Dublin are my home, and there’s no place I’d rather be.

Dani “Mega” O’Malley plays by her own set of rules—and in a world overrun by Dark Fae, her biggest rule is: Do what it takes to survive. Possessing rare talents and the all-powerful Sword of Light, Dani is more than equipped for the task. In fact, she’s one of the rare humans who can defend themselves against the Unseelie. But now, amid the pandemonium, her greatest gifts have turned into serious liabilities.

Dani’s ex–best friend, MacKayla Lane, wants her dead, the terrifying Unseelie princes have put a price on her head, and Inspector Jayne, the head of the police force, is after her sword and will stop at nothing to get it. What’s more, people are being mysteriously frozen to death all over the city, encased on the spot in sub-zero, icy tableaux.

When Dublin’s most seductive nightclub gets blanketed in hoarfrost, Dani finds herself at the mercy of Ryodan, the club’s ruthless, immortal owner. He needs her quick wit and exceptional skill to figure out what’s freezing Fae and humans dead in their tracks—and Ryodan will do anything to ensure her compliance.

Dodging bullets, fangs, and fists, Dani must strike treacherous bargains and make desperate alliances to save her beloved Dublin—before everything and everyone in it gets iced.

Praise for Iced

“Moning returns to the heady world of her Fever series, and the results are addictive and consistently surprising. . . . The best elements of Moning’s sensual, shadowy epic are still here, from the sensual and enigmatic Fae to the super-alpha heroes and the breathless pace of their escalating conflicts. At its heart is a heroine whose development is likely to become the stuff of legends as this unforgettable, haunting series continues to evolve.”—RT Book Reviews

“This is one of my favorite 2012 reads . . . It’s engaging, hilarious, amazing and Dani is going to be one heck of a woman.”—USA Today

“A gripping story that combines excellent storytelling with believable characters that are rendered both superhuman and superbly human, with emotional fragility and psychological vulnerability in an unstable world fraught with danger . . . Fast-paced, with nonstop action set in a fascinating urban fantasy world of Dublin under siege, this is a smart, bold and textured success.”─Kirkus Reviews

“Moning is a master storyteller. I don’t know how she does it, but she begs me to get on my knees and pay worship to the woman who has brought me the best, most labyrinthine stories and characters I’ve ever had the privilege to get to know. She weaves brilliantly, unapologetically, and without exception, and she has threaded the needle into me and I’ve been pulled, over and over, into her tapestry, and I don’t think I’m ever getting out. Iced is no exception.”—The Bawdy Book Blog (five-starred review)

"Iced". This book was awesome!! Couldn't, put it down!!! Thought it was better than entire "Highlander"/"Fever" series put together!!! Can,t wait for next book to be released!!! Thanks Karen "Dude"!!

Iced. This is not one of my favorite in the series I wish she would just end the series and starting something new or back to the way that she used to write I thoroughly enjoyed those book!!!

Fecking Awesome!. I'm so in love with the way Karen Marie Moning can jump between writing from the mind of a 14 year old super-girl to the mind of a woman with a guilty conscience. The depth of each characters, the color depiction of the environment, the connection between friends and lovers, makes this book yet another success in the "Fever Series"! You won't want to put it down! Can't wait for the trilogy to continue! Thank you Karen Marie Moning for providing an awesome place for my mind to escape into!

Iced. Liked it, not as passionate as other fever novels, 'cause we are dealing with a 14year old virgin. Easy read , pleasant, predictable storyline, with no surprises. Being blessed with a poor short term memory; I will continue with the trilogy.

Iced. I'm so impressed by this new series. Karen Marie Moning just keeps creating better and better characters and worlds.

Iced. This book was awesome! It's full of twists and turns and you never know what's going to happen. This book picks up where Shadowfever ended. Dani is such a great character....she leads this book exceptionally well. It's a must read as is all of KMM's books!

Worth the wait.... Having read all her books I can honestly say Fever Series and now Iced are her best work. No one does sexual tension better. Breathlessly awaiting the next installment.

Best ever. Dare I say this book was even better then the Fever series. Maybe it is just because I have had so long to fall in love with the characters in the Fever series, but something about our little fire headed super hero is so special. Fantastic friction between the characters, and clear that some hearts are going to break in books two and three in the trilogy, but I can hardly wait. I have not been this excited to read in a while again. It seems either my other favorite authors are not writing currently, slow to write or writing so fast they are producing less then satisfactory work. Some authors take over a year to produce the next book in a series and not only does it kill a little of the excitement for the next book because you tend to dismiss it from your mind, but also one tends to forgot parts of the story line. Mrs. Moning please keep up the great work you are worth the wait, but try not to keep us on pins and needle to awfully long. Most of all thanks for bringing me to that special space when I read a good book to just get away from the stress of life a little and dream.

Fever series Total. This series is ABSOLUTELY ONE OF THE VERY BEST series I've read! And I've been reading all kinds of series for over 55+ years now! The sex is raw for those that enjoy it...a bit too raw for me, but it IS very well written. The characters are so well fleshed out you feel you KNOW them and when one of them dies, you actually hate the story for a few minutes! However, there's enough girl meets boy and lives (maybe not happily ever after under the circumstances), to keep you turning the pages on your iPad. And PLENTY of potential 'threads' to follow that could lead you to believe even MORE books will follow! I just hate we have to wait so long between stories! Thanks Karen Moning for keeping fae, fairies, and things that WILL GO BUMPin the night alive for us!! Gina

Stay to the light. Ms. Moning you had me worried when you left the Highlands for Fever World. As an avid reader I never read "urban fantasy ". I never enjoyed fantasy. Your fever series is one of my favorite series of all time. You worried me a second time with Dani and this book being on the edge of YA. What I now know is that I should stay to light and not worry where your books lead. Iced is a big gift. Spent five hours reading it this past Sunday. "Loved it"is an understatement! No worries this book isn't YA. I ask that you not make us wait a whole year for book seven!

Fabulous as usual!. As always, I love KMM!! She tells such an amazing story that when the book ends I feel like im going to die of anticipation. I want the next book now!!! Impatiently awaiting your next book Karen!!!

Iced. Left me hanging, do not want to have to wait too long for next book. Loved it though.

Amazing book!. First I know some people keep thinking that this is a young adult book because the protagonist is 14, however this is not the case. This book is full of other characters that are doing adult things written and implied. I absolutely love Dani in this book. KMM made her such a heartbreakingly strong character that I cannot get enough of her. I've read reviews about how KMM has over sexualized a 14 year old girl and I considered this for only 2 seconds before I remembered what it was like to be 14. I was waaay less innocent than Dani. I think KMM did a great job keeping Dani innocent while making a point that she is pretty much the only innocent left in her world. I loved the story, it was very well written. Sometimes I wanted to scream at my book because things weren't happening that I wanted to happen, lol. Then again, the decisions KMM made for the story makes it that much more complicated and thrilling. I loved this book and totally recommend it if you have read the fever series.

Iced. Excellent. Wonderful fast read. Could not put down.

Loved it!. I too was reading the beginning waiting to get back to Mac. By the time I realized that it wasn't gonna happen, I fell in love with Dani. Karen is a master at weaving all kinds of emotions through her story, some of which I can't even decipher, but are still pretty intense. Probably because we are all riding the rollercoaster of Dani's fickle emotions. Excellent storytelling. Thank you, Karen!

Outstanding Novel!. This is the best thing Moning has written since the Highlander series. Characters are well-developed, super plot, and a mixture of romance with humor. Best part? Original and creative. MegamRocks!

Moning manic through and through. Loved this! I just can't say anymore than I love KMM and everything she reads is gold! Best. Author. Ever!!!!!

ICED = FUNNY!. This was an entertaining book! Dani's character was a hoot! I definitely recommend it! Looking forward to Burned!

Not only this book, but the whole series.... Is absolutely amazing!! Keeps you on edge, even when it seems like a peaceful and happy moment! By far the most riveting series. The dani trilogy is the icing on the cake! One of my favorite authors and series. The only other is the Harry potter series. Definitely a must read! Recommend it to anyone and everyone. But of course you have to read the fever series books first. My only con about it is that I have to wait long for the next book. Well worth it though!

Kathya. I am really disappointed with this story. The story is everywhere with no connection. I love Karens and I am a big fan but I am not sure about this series. To schizophrenic ... Is she not a romance novelist?

Best one yet. Brilliant series, beautifully written ... this one is clear and away the best book yet.

Awesome. This book is so much awesome cant wait for the next one!!!

Iced. loved it!!! can't wait for the next one!!!

Iced: A Dani O'Malley Novel. I was hesitant to read this novel for Dani was not one of my favorite characters in the Fever series. However, I enjoy all Karen Marie Monings works, so I gave it a try. I was not disappointed. Dani's character is impulsive, living for the moment, full of life, but a typical teenager as well. Moning expands Dani by adding more of her past, creating a three dimensional character. The scene is Ireland, post wall down. One is best to read the Fever series first to get a better grasp of life after the walls go down. The plot is good guys verus bad guys, in a matter of speaking. Survival is the key. There is a mystery to solve. Moning gives the reader a resolution at the end, but keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next book. The drawback I found was that Moning duplicates some of her ideas from the Fever series by incorporating them into this novel. Overall the book was well written with the right amount of detail, suspense, characters, and fight scenes.

Awesome!!!!!. I freaking LOVED this book!!!!!

Dani.... I will preface this by saying I love KMMs writing and particularly this series. Having said that I wish I had just skipped this book. I dislike Dani as a protagonist. I found her frustrating as a sidekick in the previous book and I hated her here. I had hoped that there would be enough of the other characters I liked to be worth the time. I was disappointed. If you like her character this book will probably be every bit as brilliant as the previous ones but if not... skip it.

Awesome!. I loved this book. I read it three times I just can't get enough. How am I going to wait for the next book. Ugh!

Iced. Spine tingling, absorbing.

!!!. Fecking Awesome!!!!!

I wasn't a huge fan. I love the Fever Series but this book was kind of lagging for me. I took 5 days to read this it wasn't that exciting. So I gave it 4 stars only cause I couldn't do 4.5. The book wasn't a total loss Mac sees her in the end!

Iced Ice Baby. A touch trite, but an important part of the Fever series. Unfortunately, I kept getting tripped up by a phrase that absolutely made me cringe every time I read it. Especially since it showed up on almost every other page!! Realizing that typos and sloppy editing are common with ebooks, I ignored it the first few times. But come on…”all the sudden” is a grade school mistake. Now maybe that’s just being picky, but it truly was a huge mental pothole that I stumbled over each time the character/author repeated herself.

Awesome!!!. I was a little weary when Karen changed characters, especially to someone I wasn't as invested in but it is well worth the leap of faith! The two stories are still intertwined its just a different perspective. Many people apparently think this is YA but it isn't. Enjoy! I'm very much looking forward to the next book :)

Iced. Great dialogue and engaging story. All the characters from the Fever series, plus some interesting & scary new ones. Only problem I had was: how does anyone eat that many candy bars and not have rotten teeth!

AWESOME!!!!. It's Karen Moning, how could it not be awesome? This story is action from beginning to end. I loved learning more about all of the characters you only got a glimpse of in the first 5 books. This story picks up seamlessly from where the last one left off giving you a brand new view of Dublin AWC. Ms. Moning's imagination knows no bounds. This book is simply FECKING AWESEOME! Can't wait for the next installment!

Iced. Awesome!! Can't wait for Burned !!

Strange. On the fence defiantly not a fever series, but the main character is only 14 and seemed older, 20's at least, also the three men chasing her was kinda gross, again I say only 14 don't know if I would buy it again

I want my money back. It's not the Fever Series. It's not even close. I do not agree its appropriate for YA. Way to sexed up for YA. I can't relate to the main character. The Fever Series but with different characters. And I found myself skimming. I hate skimming. It's a waste of my money. If I bought the hard cover, I would take it back.

I WANT TO NEXT ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Karen Moning out did herself once again. To the reviewers before me...THIS IS THE FEVER SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND IT IS NOT IN YOUNG ADULT AND IF IT IS IT SHOULD BE TAKEN OUT BECAUSE KAREN SAID THAT IT IS NOT YOUNG ADULT!!!!!!!! Any Moning Maniac would absolutely love this plus it is from Dani "The Mega" O'Malley's point of view. She just seems older because of what she had to go through at such a young age. And of course three men are chasing after her, she is The Mega!!!! This was an AWESOME book and like I said any MONING MANIAC would LOOOOOOVE!!!!!! this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loved it!!. SPOILER ALERT!!!! At first I was concerned about what a story on a 14yr old girl could compare to the previous fever series. I was surprised and satisfied with the way KMM was able to keep Dani, a bigger then life teenager, a mature yet naive 14yr old. Although then men can't wait till she is a woman it doesn't take away at all from the story. Infact the way KMM was able to keep all the complexities of this character while still maintains Dani was amazing. That couldn't have been easy. Loved the fever series obviously and absolutely can't imagine how I am going to be able to wait for the sequel to the Dani O'Malley series Burned. Est release date Jan.2014. But I will be waiting!!!!
