Killing Kennedy by Bill O'Reilly & Martin Dugard Book Summary

A riveting historical narrative of the shocking events surrounding the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and the follow-up to mega-bestselling author Bill O'Reilly's Killing Lincoln

More than a million readers have thrilled to Bill O'Reilly's Killing Lincoln, the page-turning work of nonfiction about the shocking assassination that changed the course of American history. Now the anchor of The O'Reilly Factor recounts in gripping detail the brutal murder of John Fitzgerald Kennedy—and how a sequence of gunshots on a Dallas afternoon not only killed a beloved president but also sent the nation into the cataclysmic division of the Vietnam War and its culture-changing aftermath.

In January 1961, as the Cold War escalates, John F. Kennedy struggles to contain the growth of Communism while he learns the hardships, solitude, and temptations of what it means to be president of the United States. Along the way he acquires a number of formidable enemies, among them Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev, Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, and Alan Dulles, director of the Central Intelligence Agency.  In addition, powerful elements of organized crime have begun to talk about targeting the president and his brother, Attorney General Robert Kennedy.

In the midst of a 1963 campaign trip to Texas, Kennedy is gunned down by an erratic young drifter named Lee Harvey Oswald. The former Marine Corps sharpshooter escapes the scene, only to be caught and shot dead while in police custody.

The events leading up to the most notorious crime of the twentieth century are almost as shocking as the assassination itself. Killing Kennedy chronicles both the heroism and deceit of Camelot, bringing history to life in ways that will profoundly move the reader.  This may well be the most talked about book of the year.

Another winner book. So interesting- captivating

Exceptional!!!!!. Great and accurate book. Loved it from beginning to end. Loved "Killing Lincoln". Can't wait to read killing Jesus.....

Review. Well written and worth reading. Well researched. Like the fact that the sources are provided because it allows to search and see if the information is accurate.

read lots concerning the subject. I did find lots of information that I had not heard. It is a good read.

Killing Kennedy. Great read. Would recommend this to anyone. Off to reading Killing Lincoln.

Killing Kennedy. This is my second read of the series. I really enjoyed it. Great to learn about American history.

An excellent read. Just finished and now believe this book should be on every high school American History class reading list. A much better look into the events of the times than is given in the schoolbooks.

Killing Kenedy. Loved it!

My time. Enjoyed reading history I lived through. At the age of 12, I recall most of the incidents covered in this book. Now at 68, it’s enlightening to read the back stage facts of this time in history. Of all Killing series this is one of my best.

Exceptional. Brilliant and exceptional portrayal and true to the story with clear facts that depict the time in which our beloved country lost her innocence.

Killing Kennedy. Although I'm not an avid reader I found the book thoroughly entertained I highly recommend this book to all who are interested in JFK

Killing Kennedy. Bill O'reilly's account of Kennedy's life and subsequent assassination was fascinating and informative. I couldn't put the book down and I can't wait to read his next one. Fantastic!

Awful!. This is a joke.. Very inaccurate. There's no proof to any of his claims. The worst part is that this is a best seller and the JFK assassination has been told from this POV numerous times!

Killing Kennedy. Good book not as good as Lincoln

Killing O'Reilly. Mr. Bill likes to sell books and he has to conform to the Warren Commission. This was cheap trash. Roger Stone's book is the closest to truth we'll ever find. Too bad Bill is more committed to writing fiction than lending his power and voice to truth.

Read it. Learned a lot

Killing Kennedy: The End of Camelot. One of the best history books I've ever read, no doubt about, it's a great read, on one of the most tragic events of the 20th century.

Killing Kennedy. By far best book I have read all year. Could not put it down.

Very good. Loved it!

Incredible. The facts and other items of his life one felt as if you were right there.

Awful. Fantasy ideals, no real facts and nothing believable.

Killing Kennedy. While this book is very well done, I don't think there is a single bit of new information. I read the Warren Commission report when it first came out and there was much information in there that should have been included in this book. How can one write this book and not mention the autopsy or the Zapruder film?

A Must Read for Fans of Kennedy and of American History. I would recommend reading this if you are a fan of Kennedy! It's a great narrative of not only his Assassination, but also of his Administration and his Personal Scandals. It truly shows everyone's character when they're not in the Public Eye! An Excellent Read!

Fastest book I’ve ever read!. I’m not much of a reader so for me to read this book in 3 days is pretty good. Killing Kennedy is an excellent read!! I wasn’t alive when the assassination took place but parts of the book come to life and I could visualize little details. Great book!

Nothing New. The specifics of the assassination appear 3/4ths of the way through the book. The last part should have been the first part. This was not about the killing of Kenneday, it was a broad overview of his time in office. More accurately, his time in the bedroom. I would have guessed that, with all the available resources these days, and all of Mr. O’Reilly’s connections, there actually would have been something new to learn in this book. The only new information I got was the depth of the President’s philandering, and the promiscuity of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and I wouldn’t say I know all that much about the Kennedy assassination. (Actually, Stephen King’s 11/22/63 probably gave me more insight into the event than this book did.) What MLK’s personal exploits have to do with killing Kennedy, I have no idea. However there is a full chapter devoted to them, with only a couple paragraphs about all the assassination conspiracy theories. I understand that, if it truly came down to a lone gunman, there’s no point in trying to substantiate other theories. However, Mr. O’Reilly could have given us some new irrefutable evidence that Lee undoubtedly acted alone. Everything about killing Kennedy in this book is stale. The only “end of Camelot” portrayed here is possibly Mr. O’Reilly’s hope that, after reading about Kennedy’s sordid affairs, Jackie’s thoughts of cheating, and MLK’s alleged orgies, we might conclude that there was no Camelot to begin with.

Great book! Wonderful journey of storytelling. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves history, especially presidential history. Of course the Kennedy family is so interesting that this book would be a great read for anyone who wants to learn more about JFK and the Kennedy family in the White House in the early 1960's.

Rep. Awesome read! Thank you Bill O!

Killing Kennedy. Nice to relive a time when our President was respected Yes, we new he wasn't perfect; nor were we!

Excellent. O’Reilly continues to impress with untold historical vignettes that practically no one knows — until now. He’s a thousand times more substantive and creative than his detractors think. I always watched him on Fox with a dose of skeptical bemusement, but he’s far better in objective print than he ever was on TV. Five stars. Exceptionally researched and recorded.

Killing Kennedy. This is the first book by Bill O'reilly that I have read and it was mind blowing. The main thing I love about the book is how much you begin to feel for these characters and how much you feel invested in what happens to them. There came a point in the book where I really didn't want the killing to happen because you care about Kennedy and Jackie. Very well written and perfectly paced. I would highly recommend it.

Bad Book. Incorrect history

Didn’t deserve it. Sad so young, but communist kill it’s what they do.

Killing Kennedy. 300 pages of fluff and innuendo. Very little substance but plenty of salacious passages about sexual dalliances; none of which had anything to do with the assassination. What a waste of time and money.

KILLING KENNEDY. Brilliantly done. At the time of Kennedy's assination I was a Marine stationed in Okinawa and in the "Ready Battallion". We were put on alert and ready to respond to any order if it was determined that a foreign power was involved. As a result I was no exposed to the media coverage at the time, This book made it all alive and even made me cry in a number of places.

Killing Kennedy. A wonderfully written book. Very informative, and it's written in facts that grab your attention. Amazing to read how the timeline of this wonderful president played out in his life. Great book. Must read!

Killing Kennedy. Very disappointing! O'Reilly writes that Oswald finally decided to assassinate Kennedy essentially because his estranged wife, Marina, refused to take him back the night before the murder and that Jack Ruby killed Oswald as an act of patriotism mostly to the Democratic Party. Whether or not you believe that Oswald acted alone, this simplistic theory is utterly unsupported by the author and defies both logic and history. Otherwise, though an interesting read and well written, there is very little new information here.

Amazing. I love all the details about this book. Great book

Killing Kennedy. Loved the book! Fascinating factual-just a great read! Highly recommend this book.

Yes. Read this book. I don't read a lot of books but got this on a solid recommendation. It's poignant, sweet, funny, sincere, heart felt, extremely intense and most of all insightful and informative. Really good read.

Too much about JFK sleeping around. Oswald was a little man who wanted to be big...and the lone gunman. JFK slept with a ton of women...way too much time on this subject. RFK probably killed Marilyn...or had the mob do it.

Well written. A great read, easy to follow and something most older Americans can remember and relate to. Easy reading. A great way for younger generations to get a good sense of JFK and his times.

lol yo. D but Dog yyy y kto class Be rc J Cy you bo

Killing Kennedy. This was an outstanding book.i gave me a better understanding whoJFK really was. Highly recommend

yea dog. get rekt dog

Killing Kennedy. Simply great. Great and engrossing writing of historical matter. Thoroughly enjoyed!

Must Read. This read is outstanding. I have read Killing Lincoln and this book lives up to the high mark it set. I can not wait to read Killing Jesus. This writing style is a spectacular way of highlighting history. Please keep writing non-fiction. I will likely reread both books.

Killing Kennedy. Awesome book ! Enjoyed reading it until the very end.

Killing Kennedy. Detailed history that has not been revealed in an easy read style. Could have been finished in just a few days!

Killing Kennedy. Listened to this book on CD and was absolutely riveted by the author's reading of the story; found myself sitting in the car in the garage (motor off) listened to the CD instead of coming in the house. Every American should read this book! (Or listen to it)

Fantastic work!. Unbiased, factually based. Wonderful trip back in America's history.
