Whispers in Autumn by Trisha Leigh Book Summary

In 2015, a race of alien Others conquered Earth. They enslaved humanity not by force, but through an aggressive mind control that turned people into contented, unquestioning robots.

Except sixteen-year-old Althea isn’t content at all, and she doesn’t need the mysterious note inside her locket to tell her she’s Something Else. It also warns her to trust no one, so she hides the pieces that make her different, even though it means being alone.

The autumn she meets Lucas, everything changes.

Althea and Lucas are immune to the alien mind control, and together they search for the reason why. What they uncover is a stunning truth the Others never anticipated, one with the potential to free the brainwashed human race.

It’s not who they are that makes them special, but what.

And what they are is a threat. One the Others are determined to eliminate for good.

Whispers in Autumn. I couldn't put it down, it was great and enthralling!!!!! Loved It!!!! :)

Whispers in Autumn. This is truly a great read. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series! :)

You will not regret picking up this series!!!. I'm pretty sure it was Denise Grover Swank who got me reading Trisha Leigh. The two of them are BFF's after all. I read the first chapter of this book and it was different than other books that I have read. It is considered a young adult book, but titles don't phase me. If the story sounds interesting then I will read it. I don't care what the genre is listed as. That's exactly how I like my music and my movies, too. Althea is a 16 year old girl living in a world where aliens have taken over the human race. Everyone is happy following their directions and plugging along in life, thanks to the alien mind control. But Althea feels different than the others. She has a secret: she can go to sleep and wake up in another time, in another home in another state and it's like she never left. She doesn't know how it happens, when it's going to happen or why it happens. She doesn't know how long she will stay each time she travels. She can't tell anyone about it and it's driving her crazy. She meets Lucas and realizes that she is not alone. He is a lot like her and there may be more like them. They can't let on that they are different because they will be taken and become "broken." No one has ever come back from being broken. Any one who does not obey or submit becomes broken and disappears. Althea cannot risk that happening. She has been told and believes that she is different for a reason; that she can stop the mind control and release the humans from their prisons. But, at what cost? I am currently reading book 4 Summer Ruins and because this series revolves around the seasons, I am inclined to believe that this will be the last book. I enjoy this series because Trisha is a fantastic writer. She has given Althea enough fire (hee-hee) and enough vulnerability to be believable. The task at hand is a dauntingly epic one, hence why it needs 4 books to tell it. However, the challenges that she faces and the struggles that she has to overcome don't seem over the top or tend to drag on and on for no reason. There is purpose to the actions and the problems that Althea encounters. This girl is trying to change the world and that doesn't happen in 1 book or without major repercussions or collateral damage. I would REALLY love to see this series become a movie. It has a chance to become something like the Lord of the Rings movies where the epic journey is started on in the first movie and it takes several more to complete it. There are some amazing elements in this series that would transfer well to the big screen. So go read this book and jump on the bandwagon BEFORE it becomes cool to be on it. You can look back with pride knowing that you were here from the beginning and saw this baby all the way from birth to graduation.

Continued Whispers In My Mind. WOW! My first experience reading Trisha Leigh began with this series, and this book is absolutely fabulous. I can't begin to say enough good things about the book as an individual, nor the series as a whole. As soon as I turned the last page, I immediately began the second book. The characters' emotions are felt so keenly, and you grow to love them over every chapter. Trisha's knack for storytelling is so evident as you lose yourself in the world she created. It's impossible to call Althea a typical teenager. Where the average teenager might find being unique something to revel in, Althea's life is made treacherous by her unique status. She cannot flaunt that which makes her different because it is enough to put her life in danger. Forget Earth as you know it. Imagine a world where "The Others" have conquered and everyone exists in a cycle of habitual consistency. Daily schedules, home life, and even emotions are strictly regulated for every single human. Every human, that is, but Althea. She's grown up knowing how different she is. She never spends two seasons in a row in the same community. She travels without her foreknowledge, completely out of her control. The families in the homes she wakes up in all continue on as if she's always been there. Drained of her energy and reassuring herself she still exists begins the early morning of each jump as she reminds herself which family and home she must acclimate to in order to blend in. The effort of pretending conformity as well as the isolation of being alone in her awareness are almost too much bear. Until Lucas. It doesn't take long for Althea to realize he is different. She's terrified of being caught, but another part of her cannot help but seek him out, to watch him, to observe. Meeting him for the first time in all of her years of traveling seasons changes everything. Cryptic clues and the ability to think for themselves are all they have . . . besides one another. Something is coming. Whatever happens, at least this time they won't be alone. Rest assured, you won't be able to stop with just Whispers in Autumn. If you haven't downloaded it yet, tap that link! Enjoyable. Easy read but with great characters! Enough twists and turns to keep you excited without dragging out the story beyond what’s needed. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Amazing!. This entire series was so invigorating and fresh! It was great to finally read a series with so much originality that I had no idea what would happen next. I loved it, so much so, that I had to go out and buy it in print as well! I recommended this series to all my reader friends and anyone else. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Racist/Prejudiced. The racist/prejudiced/stereotypical depictions of minorities in this book is absolutely appalling. “Some have funny-shaped eyes, some a kind of light brown skin or noses that seem too big for their faces.” Did the author really think that minorities wouldn't read this book? Or did buy into the "black people (minorities) don't read" stereotype and concluded that it wouldn't be a problem? This book is just completely atrocious.

Enjoyable. Had a hard time putting it down. Looking forward to the next book. :)

Very RACIST/PREJUDICE. What is the stereotypical descriptions made of Asians? Yellow skin, slant eyes, dark/black silky hair. Miss Leigh refers to them as Barbarus. Do you know what words could be linked to Barbarus? Barbarian. Not only that, but she makes them out as the human race's enemy. I don't know what transgressions an asian person may have done to make Miss Leigh, a college-educated Christian write this. The story line is interesting, but I would suggest therapy and counseling for the author. If she reads this, I hope she can find forgiveness in her Christian heart and not go on such public platform and bash Asians again. I have an open-mind and am considering purchasing the next book despite being asian myself. I am giving this one star in the hopes that she'll review my review as constructive criticism. Even if you hate a group of people, it's best to not publicize it; especially when you are trying to generate income from the sales of your books. Bless her heart.

Wow. Ok so this book I downloaded for free so I would have something to read on my road trip. I wasn't expecting much from a free book but boy was I wrong. It definitely sucked me in and now I can't wait to read the rest of the series!!!

Yikes. Enjoyed the book until chapter 3 where "Barbaraus" seemed like the black community of the book. As a black person, really didn't appear in this. The name, the "funny eye shapes and noses too big for their faces" completely turned me off. Also aliens being white-coded with aryan features, it's just not believable. I hope the author expands their views on the world in their next series.

Whispers in Autumns. One thing I hate most in a story is a main character who is dumb, wimpy and spineless...Althea is all three! The only way she'll save anyone is accidentally... There's no way she wants to cause the creatures killing the human race and destroying the planet any pain... OMG, give me a break! It's for sure I will not suffer thru another book with this loser. Amazing!. This is one of the best books I ever read, and it's free!

Loved it!. Would make a great movie!!

Another spin off alien book.. Srsly, this is the 21st century. Haven't we already find overboard with aliens, their invasions and mind control? Even ABC4kids have these stuff! Overall, the story is a typical spin off of probably 'I'm Four' but the plot is fine. Thanks

Riveting. An intriguing plot line that draws you in. I found it to be a quick easy read that was hard to put down.

Hooked!. Wow! I devoured this book and can't wait to read the next ones. Loved it! Couldn't put it down.

Suspenseful and enjoyable. I really enjoyed this novel and am downloading the second one as I type. Quite a different outlook on fantasy as it mixes with sci-fi. Aliens have taken over earth and have 'veiled' the humans into a meaningless existence. Until summer comes. Really enjoyed it and it kept me wanting more.
