Emperor of Thorns by Mark Lawrence Book Summary

In the final novel in the Broken Empire Trilogy, the boy who would rule all may have finally met his match...

King Jorg Ancrath is twenty now—and king of seven nations. His goal—revenge against his father—has not yet been realized, and the demons that haunt him have only grown stronger. Yet no matter how tortured his path, he intends to take the next step in his upward climb.

Jorg would be emperor. It is a position not to be gained by the sword but rather by vote. And never in living memory has anyone secured a majority of the vote, leaving the Broken Empire long without a leader. Jorg plans to change that. He’s uncovered the lost technology of the land, and he won’t hesitate to use it.

But he soon finds an adversary standing in his way, a necromancer unlike any he has ever faced—a figure hated and feared even more than himself: the Dead King.

Ok, Stop.. Dear Mark Lawrence, I have read all of those and those about Nona. Stop making me care about characters and then finishing the series. Like, how inconsiderate! Anyway, 10/10, read all three books in 5 days.

Felt like there should have been more. The ending felt rushed. I enjoyed the trilogy for what it was but I felt like the book was grasping for straws to make a triumphant conclusion. That said great character development.

Disappointing. The first part of the book was fantastic. What everyone has come to expect and demand from Mark Lawrence. The ending was disappointing, it was like Mark was trying to hard to wrap up Jorg's story. I felt disappointed and feel like a beloved characters life was ended by an author who had gotten sick of the story and wanted to move on.

Reviews. Awesome book! Even though another reviewer decided to be a dîckhead and spoil the ending! Highly Recommend!

Overall an spectacular story. I've just finished the 3rd book in this amazing and inspiring trilogy. For this third installment, the majority of the book was captivating, pulling you in as though you have no choice but to accept and reap the rewards. I enjoyed almost every page. The climax of the book left me a bit disappointed. I did not have breath taken from me, time needed to recover, as I did with long of thorns. I very much wish it had gone about a different way and felt rushed. I understand why the author went about it this way, but we have all been spoiled by his words on pages and I wish I could have enjoyed them in a longer finale. The overall story has been extremely pleasing and I would encourage anyone and do encourage people constantly to read Mark's books. Many people have different experiences than me regarding the finale and think it perfect the way that it is and you may feel the same way, so please do not let one minute displeasure of mine keep you from reading this absolute joy of a trilogy. It will take you places you don't want to leave, and perhaps even give you a fonder connection to those you love, as it did for me. Thank you Mark for this incredible story. I will continue to read anything this author puts out, and you should as well.

Emperor Of Thorns. Excellent read.Sad to see it end.....I love Jorg. Not quite a villain not quite a hero but more villain than hero.

Dark Yet Illuminating. I think it would be hard to overly praise this book and series. Mark has a style of writing that is simply phenomenal. It gets to the heart of difficult topics through well written, gritty fantasy that is always tying back to itself and pulling the story together. This book is full of prickly one liners and profound stand alone thoughts, but above all is a vehement story of thorns that hooks you in its grasp.

Challenging Epic Fantasy. This story was a beautifully written fantasy, in a dystopian, magical Middle Age world about a coming of age antihero. The challenging part was keeping tract of the flow of the story as it went back and forth in time. Yet each sequence gave insight to the progression of events. A little grim for young readers so recommended for adult readers.

How it should be!. What an incredible story. Written by a truly talented author who isn’t afraid to give the world a hero who is as flawed, dark, yet real human being. Thank you for loving your characters and readers enough to give your work the end it deserved where so many others have failed. I can’t say enough good things about this series, so I won’t keep trying.

Rare read. I loved this series. It grew stronger with every book, which is rare. I can highly recommend it.

Perfect. Amazing, dirty, wonderful and gritty

Dark and glorious. This series is intentionally conflicted and dark. It definitely should not be read by kids. It’s vile enough at times that it probably shouldn’t be read by anyone. The corruption permeating the story and the hero are disturbing but resonate. The truth of a hero that is doing it all to feed his own appetite for revenge and glory is a story not often told and never told this well.

Excellent. One of the best series I’ve read, period. Joins Erikson, Martin, Herbert, and Cook on my shelf for re-reading.

A little rushed. Great book overall, but the ending was a bit rushed and certain things felt a bit unresolved. Not as good as the previous 2 books, but a worthy conclusion to a great series.

Wow. This entire trilogy has been an amazing body of work. This was the perfect ending.

Read me if looking for great trilogy. If you’re like me you’ve probably searched a million different things along the lines of “best fantasy series” or “high rated fantasy”. It can be hard trying to find something that you think you’ll like and easy to nitpick between book reviews. All I gotta say is is to just start this series. Usually sequels never live up to the original whether it be a book or a movie, however Mark Lawrence really seemed to get more comfortable expressing is inner (possibly even dark) thoughts as the books progressed. Above all, I truly enjoyed the ending and didn’t feel as though I had just wasted months of my life as some Game of Thrones watchers may feel. As my first trilogy back after hating to read in high school, I’m glad I made it through this one.

Emperor of Thorns. Fantastic

A great read. This has truly been a great read the "thorns" series has breathe new life into the fantasy world and didn't make me wait 10 years and wade through 15 books to do it. To anyone that wants a good read that's not to long or not to short pick these novels up,you won't be disappointed .

Great read.. Some unexpected twists along the way and a great final installment to the epic. If you haven't read the first two then I suggest you read them first to get a better feel for the characters. This isn't your typical good vs. evil series.

Awsome book. Different, dark and original
