Amazing. I rarely read books cause most bore me but i love this book a couple curse words but im glad I found this book its amazing please read even if you hate si fi a grate read other than the grammer but some people spell things differently

Please use an editor. Talented story line, but truly needs to hire an editor or get a volunteer 8th grader to read it with a red pen. The sloppy grammar is distracting. I would pay for an edited version, but don't plan to read the sequels because of this lack.

Well, it was a nice story... I'm sorry, but GRRR. As this book was under "Sci-Fi", the author should have done a bit more simple research. Not a good understanding of physics, thus some tough-to-chew descriptions of damage, fights, and piloting (and guns work fine in a vacuum, watch Mythbusters, lol). Emotionally the story was well tended, author making good on conveying every facet. Unfortunate is the main characters seemingly constant pain.

The Last Praetorian. Excellent book. Story was suspenseful and told in a way making it hard to stop reading on to get farther into what happened in the recent past of the characters while keeping on gripping you with what was happening in the present. This was done in an outstanding manner few books i’ve read managed to accomplish.

Wonderfull!. Well, what can you say about a book that tells a story so strong and subtle at the same time, that you find yourself sweating, running for cover, laughing or crying without consciously knowing it? Smith is a superb author that gives it all to fulfill your expectations and more. Exactly just like Jon did.

Meh. The story is pretty good, but I know 10th graders with better grammar. Please, please, please get a better proofreader. It detracts from the story itself when your grammar is consistently bad. It took me out of the story multiple times when I noticed your grammar mistakes.

Griping. Mike Smith has done an outstanding job with this book! The reader is kept in a constant state of wonder with very little predictability. Very much looking forward to the next installment.

Excellent plot and characters. Mike Smith fully develops the key characters and writes a tense storyline with a dramatic ending. A great read!!

Thank you Mike Smith. I have had the biggest desire for a space sci-fi like Star Wars or star trek and this paid the bill. It is intertwining fun and awesome writing in my opinion. Thank you for such an awesome and fun story.

Loved, it but wanted a little less of what others wanted more of. Space tactics, politics, space ships, and even what happens to humanity post-Earth, this is an amazing book. But I disliked two things: Too much of the romance. I know only like 40 total pages in a 435 pg book is too little for some, but for me it just distracted from the, in my opinion, quality content.

The last Praetorian. Great read, hard to put down. Excellent story line. Lots of twists, also an interesting romantic story. A must for science fiction readers.

Not Very Good. This is a space opera novel about a military character who makes many sacrifices in order to fulfill his duties. There were many plot holes in this book, and many situations which just weren’t plausible. The science was also unsound, such as lasers not being able to work in space since there is no air. Mr. White would benefit by researching science a little more before writing another novel. Not a recommended read until then.

Irritating Grammar. How did such poor grammar get past the editor? It overrides enjoyment of the storyline.

Grammar annoying. Great writing an deploy, but the lack of proof reading is annoying as hell.

Paid for the second one!. Cracking story

Brilliant. The story line and plot are excellent so is characterisation, all in all a very good read. My only comment would to Mike Smith ease please proof read you manuscript, there are many misspellings and errors and it's annoying because there is no reason for it

A good read but........ A good book worth the read, but some character names seem lifted from other books Senator Rione of the Callas Republic is in Jack Campbell's lost fleet books, Valerian steel sword George RR Martins Game Of Thrones, but I did enjoy the book and off now to get the second one

A Really good read. My daughter originally downloaded this book onto my Kindle to read. She raved about it; so I thought well I might as well read it, not something that everybody would like but if you like science fiction you will probably enjoy. I am not going to say too much about the story, as I don’t want to spoil it but I really enjoyed reading it and it kept me interested to the end, a really good read.

So good. Was intrigued by the description and was not disappointed. I am looking forward to the next one so much.

Gripping Scifi full of action & adventure. I can honestly say that this is a gripping page turner! While reading you are not only reading about Jon in the present but piece by piece you find out about his past. The Last Praetorian.. This book needs a good proof-reader and editor. There are so many spelling errors that it becomes frustrating to try to read more than a chapter at a time. Definitely another mind and pair of eyes should have looked at this work before publication.

The last praetorian. Excellent, kept me rivoted.

Not outstanding but OK. On the positive an enjoyable story with adventure and romance. On the negative this book could have benefited from proof reading; some typo's and repeated words. Nothing serious enough to detract from a good story.

Readable if you can turn off your brain. I love SF but authors must know Science. This one does not. Mike have no idea about motion in space and thinks that ships in space fly as planes in air (probably because StarWars). I mean I can accept FTL drives but loops in space or braking an reversing in seconds is just laughable. He also has a problem understanding speeds and distances or the effect of rail gun projectiles. The list goes on and on. On top of that, the timescale is wrong and adults behave like adolescents. If you are not worried about any of that, you will enjoy it.

The last praetorian. Entertaining book very readable

Great characters, terrible grammar. Overall I enjoyed the book. The story was good and the characters had a depth that went beyond the usual "spoilt Princess" and "troubled but pure at heart leader". Unfortunately the number of grammatical errors spoilt this a little. To instead of too, of/off, there/their/they're aren't interchangeable just because they sound similar, sight/site. It's not nitpicking, these things affect the flow of the book for me and that's why I gave this 3 stars instead of 4. Nothing a proof read by someone shouldn't resolve though.

Gripping !. A gripping read that left me wanting to read the next book in the series as quickly as possible

Fun and engaging novel. I found this to be a thoroughly enjoyable book. There's credit due, and in no particular order other than how they pop into my head, for the: technical explanations (which suited me as a geek/curious mind); interesting and not at all contrived feel of flashbacks and such; well defined plot with twists and a little for everyone by way of action, romance, introspection etc; and believable characters. Very much looking forward to the next in the trilogy.

A combo of all my fav scifi. There are definitely elements from all my favourite space operas in his book. I downloaded this book because it was free and I like sci-fi. I was not really expecting much but I was definitely surprised. There are some fantastic space opera elements, with an intriguing universe – I cannot remember any book or TV show that ever portrayed the “Empire” or “Emperor” in a good light! The characters are good, not great but OK. If I hear about the flaming red hair, or emerald eyes on more time… However, these little quibbles aside I thoroughly recommend! Looking forward to the next book!

Excellent read!. I thought this book was excellent. I've not really been a big fan of reading fiction, but after reading the first chapter I was captivated by the characters and plot lines, which where both well written. I read the book from start to finish in 3 days, with me not getting much else done in that time! But well worth it, looking forward to the follow up book!

The best book of the year for me. The perfect mix of adventure, sci-fi and character development. I was hooked from the first chapter and totally addicted by the last chapter. Can't wait to read the next book.

The last Praetorian. Out of the multitude of books I have read this was the first science fiction I have bothered with since the 80s, and it took me two days to finish it! Great book, not often I pick up a book that gets me in trouble with the wife but could not put it down not since I first read Battlefield earth as a teenager have I found a SCIFI so engaging. A mixture of loyalty and honor, tainted by betrayal and trapped by the past, can't wait for the second book. A long time between books of this genre and it was worth it.

Romantic drivel. I'll never know if this gets any better, I can't finish it. I'm sure there's an audience for this, but it's not me. I prefer science fiction.
