I Got Drunk and then Poetry by Mark Petersen Book Summary

These poems were composed while having drinks downtown, enjoying the college-town local nightlife often with a typewriter and sometimes with an ink-pen and a Moleskine notebook. I let myself go, and I wrote a few gems and a whole lot of crap.
I have chosen the gems and applied Hemingway’s advice: “write drunk, edit sober”. My raw poetry was rife with typos and holes and I needed to edit it to make it clear and coherent. But I also didn’t want to overcook it; in my editing I strove to keep each poem faithful to the original so that the emotion and drunkenness would be maintained.

Tiara Thomas. Should’ve elaborated more

I enjoyed it. Wish there was more..

Nice work. I enjoyed it, my favorite one is Epiphany

Just a word. This poetry collection was such a fun read!

Meh. Not too inspiring or even thought provoking. Just ramblings of a drunk, I suppose. I know a lot of people, mostly addicts, who fancy their creativity is magically enhanced while intoxicated but usually the opposite is true. I'm not intending to sound judgey, or to diss his expression of art, but perhaps the authors writing would be better if he were sober? I dare say so.

<3. loved it! thank you for writing this masterpiece & i hope you continue! :)

For real.. I understand this on a very personal level. I greatly appreciate the exposure of flaws and 100% honesty and flow of thought because even though we’re imperfect that really is who we all are. The appreciation in this work is something I think everyone should relate to at some time in their life.

Free. I guess I can’t complain it’s free

Art. I liked you point of view on or own old works of art. They way you compared criticizing our old pieces to criticizing ourselves was really creative.

Extraordinary. You would think that an intoxicated person would write a lot of random thoughts that are incoherent and unnecessary, but this disproves that. Some parts of this book really make you think about how art should be shared and created more often. I've really enjoyed this book.

Amazing. This is amazing. You are drunk yet it shows you so clearly. Thee author wrote some amazing things in this book. The poems are just more thoughts that have way more meaning than most books.

Short and sweet. I love the honesty and how direct all these poems are The last one really hit me, and made me feel better about my own writing I need to appreciate myself so others can appreciate me Thank you!!!!

Thank You. I agree with you kind drunken human at a bar. You should always say thank you to art, because otherwise people start to feel useless, unheard, unappreciated. Your short book of poems just wasn’t enough! Thank you for sharing your work with all of us.

Amazing book. This book shows a lot of examples of living in the moment and knowing what is real it also shows how everything is art and art is beautiful

Humbling. Truly amazing when one sets out to spread art to the world and not expect much in return. Selfless. I thank you.

Hi. Understandable but short

I enjoyed it. It was short and sweet and made me laugh 😊

Delightful. I enjoyed reading this very much. Can’t wait to read more from you.

different. this was very different to what i usually read and write but i enjoyed the rawness of it.

I loved it. I actually loved this. I love the fact that it was simple yet riveting to read.

almost. he was just barely touching the surface, teasing. i was craving so much more by the end of it. but i guess that’s the point of it being so short. regardless i loved it and it was free so? can’t complain.

Coming from an alcoholic poet.. I thought you had some beautiful lines. I definitely want to look into your poetry some more. I would’ve loved some hungover poetry too. The deep emotion of feeling like you’d rather die than sit in the back of a cab on you way to work... ??? If I definitely liked the mention of the “generation” and you’re metaphor for using a car rather than walking spike volumes. Probably my favorite part about the piece. Well done.

Thumbs upppp great job. I’m no poetry critic but to me this is an amazing work, only wish there was a link to your Facebook profile, I would really love to follow up with you and your upcoming projects. Once again this is great work

Even though it’s 16 pages it was Amazing. I liked how this person created this poem it was inspiring in a way, as the poem creates a new perspective. But I wish that this book had more pages to be provided because if it did I would like to read more.

Drunk Poetry. Like how simple it was. Easy to connect with

It is an amazing work. Thank you for this piece of ART. I’m an international student and just recently started getting into poetry. I finished reading this book in one set. Enjoyed it so much. Your writing is so inspiring. Keep it UP!

Best way to describe my art.. I wish this would've been longer. Best one yet to read more. Best way to describe a generation of your own. After all love yourself before anyone else will make you see love in such a different way. ❤️

Love. Really really LOVE THIS. Highlighted so many sorts. Truly great, would love to read more. Happy Holidays 😁

Thank you for your truths. Something I admire about reading and writing is the pure honesty behind it. I’m intrigued with the way you made me feel knowing my altercations with alcohol. The simplicity behind your words spoke BIG amounts of truth and I very much so enjoyed your sets of words.

Beautiful. Beautiful concept . I’d love to read more !

Great work. Â

Salute’. Well done! Thoroughly enjoyed every word! Each and every random thought! I am somewhat shall we say on in years and have been writing the same 4 books that have yet to be published. One is my autobiography. Quite a humdinger that one is! I am well educated but that doesn’t necessarily mean common sense. In life or love or my love life ha! I ramble. ... I digress. For that matter the point of this note is to let you know that you have inspired me young man. I think you are a young man. I don’t remember. My memory is gone. You’ll have to buy the book to see why. I need more than that 5 bucks that you bought your beer with as my palate is a bit more refined. I jest. I do hope that this note finds you well and blessed. My regards.

opens my eyes to all the art around me. Poetry has become such an out for me. And every single word laid out on those pages showed me that there is art in everyone. Even in me

I Got Drunk and then Poetry. I loved this piece of writing. It was short but also captured the struggle of artists struggling to pay the bills while also pursuing their passion. It dissects the stereotypes of poetry writers as hipsters when they are really just part of a movement, writing how they feel. It is a yell at society to treat millennials with respect and dignity and creatives souls alike.

Encouraging. I am a poet myself , I’ve been having writers block for a while now. This masterpiece opened my mind to new ideas. I will definitely try drunk writing too lol. Nice job!

Thoughts. Very inspiring! Creates a new type of self love and value

Pretty good little read. The poems in this make you feel as if you were in the authors shoes

Worth the download!. Very good poetry, I really enjoyed the poem about love for your own artwork. Hope to read more!

Music. please write more I love music

Makes me feel encouraged. Let's face it, we are our own harshest critics--I am very guilty of that. And sometimes it helps to have a little bit of a reminder that it's best to give yourself more credit. If drunken poetry is what it takes, then so be it! Amazing and can't wait to read more!

Loved it. Short but loved what was there, left me really wanting more. So much said and spoken with such a rawness to it.

💗 A few quirky musings 💗. I love the quirkiness of this. I'm working on writing some poetry myself and needed a mind reset to get started! Great work friend!

It was exactly what I needed but not what I expected.. I was looking for a good poem, one to make me think, laugh anything to not only pass time but to enjoy. I thought it was going to be funny or stupid so I tried it out. It was beautifully worded and everything I could have wanted in a poem. My favorite was the last one☺️

A fun read. Nothing too deep or trying but a good way to kill 10 or 15 min

A good read. I was skeptical to read at first but after reading a few lines I started to connect with the writers vision. Definitely worth a look.

Amazing. I got really into this out of no where and I just can’t wait to see what else this amazing author is going to come up with.

Good work. I think you should think more highly of yourself. The generation you come from is made on what you make it. You’re much greater than you make yourself appear if you believe in yourself.

well.... It's exactly what you'd expect a free book of drunk poetry to be like.

Great!!. I found these poems to be very inspiring. The author did an excellent job,and though I don’t drink, he inspired me to write more poems of my own, and to be less of a perfectionist.

beautifully written. need i say more?
