It WILL make you a safer pilot!. I’m a freshly minted private pilot working on my instrument rating with plans on continuing all the way to CFI. I came across Jason Miller going down the YouTube aviation rabbit hole during my PPL training (Flight Chops what’s up!) and instantly knew I had found an amazing resource. Standard Operating Procedures are a huge factor in what makes our airlines so much safer than GA. This book outlines some excellent ways to take what the airlines have learned and implement them into a GA setting. Operating an aircraft is no joke, and this book will give you the tools to be a safer pilot. Simple as that.

Disappointing. Based on listening to The Finer Points podcast, I had high expectations for this book. Unfortunately it seems to be nothing more than a compilation of information previously delivered in the podcast. Structurally it suffers as well inasmuch as the text restates what's presented in the embedded media files. Finally, it appears not have been proofread with multiple typos, grammatical errors and whole paragraphs repeated. A real disappointment; it really doesn't meet the standard I would expect from Jason.

I Will Be A Safer Pilot Due To This Wonderful Resource. I am a 67 year old IFR rated pilot coming out of a 14 year hiatus. “Setting The Standard” has greatly sparked my thinking and made me a safer and more confident pilot. If only I had been exposed to this systematic way of approaching procedures earlier in my aviation instruction. The layout and multi media offerings that makeup this book are engaging and support various learning styles exceptionally well. I will reread and practice the concepts presented until they become my flying norm. To pilots considering the purchase of “Setting The Standard”, I cannot recommend this exceptional resource enough. Jason, kudo for this and for your excellent podcast!

Great book for every aviator. Jason does a really great job of explaining not only the reason and the why SOP’s are so important but also how to develop them yourself and stick with them! Lots of media to go along with the reading. Awesome book, well worth it!

Should be required reading. As a former CFI I wish I had this book/training when I was a student pilot. It promotes a disciplined approach to flying. If I were still teaching, it would be required reading for all my students, private, commercial, instrument, CFI.

A MUST READ FOR ALL PILOTS. I have been involved in general aviation for over 20 years both full and part time and have recently started flight instructing again. I have been following Jason Miller for the last few months and the level of content that he is putting out is incredible. This book is a must read for all pilots but should be an FAA requirement for all general aviation pilots! He takes the “standard” operating procedures from the pro “commercial” operators and all the years of “lessons learned” and makes a concise guide for how to structure your flying to operate in a much safer way. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !

Great Value. Very well laid out and keeps reader interested. Very cool format incorporating videos, talk, and text; with a quiz thrown in for good measure. Implementing the SOPs will bring your professionalism to the next level.

Update to the latest version. I am sorry to hear you feel the book did not meet your expectations. I intentionally used the multiple formats to better illustrate some of the concepts presented in the podcast throughout the years. Multiple ways to approach the learning … video, text, audio. The repetition is intentional. Typos and grammar were fixed in the last update. I want to be sure you know how to update to the latest version in ibooks. Its not as obvious as the app side of things but if there is an update for any of your ibooks there will be a notification in the top left of the ‘shelf’ view of your ibooks app. Then you can be sure you have the latest and watch for new updates as they come.

Pricey for what it contains. As another reviewer said, nothing new if you’ve heard his podcast. For $40 I was hoping for more depth. I just don’t feel the value was there.
