The Heroes of Olympus, Book Four: The House of Hades by Rick Riordan Book Summary

At the conclusion of The Mark of Athena, Annabeth and Percy tumble into a pit leading straight to the Underworld. The other five demigods have to put aside their grief and follow Percy's instructions to find the mortal side of the Doors of Death. If they can fight their way through the Gaea's forces, and Percy and Annabeth can survive the House of Hades, then the Seven will be able to seal the Doors from both sides and prevent the giants from raising Gaea. But, Leo wonders, if the Doors are sealed, how will Percy and Annabeth be able to escape?

They have no choice. If the demigods don't succeed, Gaea's armies will never die. They have no time. In about a month, the Romans will march on Camp Half-Blood. The stakes are higher than ever in this adventure that dives into the depths of Tartarus.

I love it!. I just wish it was free

Just....breathtaking. This book is full of excitement, adventure, and.....sacrifice. I loved this series.

Just the best yo. This book is exactly what I expected after reading Percy Jackson series. Action packed and dangerous quests to complete.... just awesome.

House of Hades. Rick Riordan never disappoints.

Yay. OMG LOVE THIS BOOK SOOO MUCH

:D. Love it and everything about it!

A Truly Amazing Book. This book is full of adventure and will make you feel like you might have powers too. Rick Riordan must have put so much time into making this and thatā€™s evident because he has made all these references and words that make since with the book. Like characters in the book might say something like, ā€œHoly Hera!ā€ If theyā€™re surprised. I think that is so cool, and I could never do that in any of the papers my mom makes my write for homeschool. I love the slang, but thatā€™s not all, there is so much possibility in this book and so little flaws. (And I also love the way he does the chapters with the name of the chapter being the characterā€™s name in the book, in their perspective). I just want to say thank you to Rick Riordan for giving us something to read/ listen to when weā€™re bored.

PERFECT MIX OF ACTION, SUSPENSE, AND EXCITEMENT!. I love this book SO MUCH! I highly recommended it with all of Uncle Ricks other books.

A M A Z I N G ! ! !. Absolutely love this book! I recommend it to anyone and everyone! :)

I LOVE IT!. OMG,it was so suspenseful when percabeth fell into Tartarus I could barely handle it.I got this and read it like 5 times.I totally give this 5 stars cuz it is so cool!Keep writing Rick!

Amazingly great. Action

LOVE IT. I remember like tearing up when Annabeth and Percy fell into Tartarus. It was just so sad and emotional, but in Tartarus they show how strong Percy and Annabeth are. The fights are amazing, and I loved the twist of Nico liking Percy. I think itā€™s great that he includes everyone from LGBTQIA+ and I love how you get to read from several points of view.

The house of hades. From the start it is a fantastic book full of thrill and suspense. Overall great book.

Umm. Did I miss out on something by skipping this one?

šŸ˜€šŸ˜€šŸŸšŸ’—šŸ”. I can't read it through enough it just does not get old !!!

Darkishly Amazing! ( I donā€™t know if thatā€™s a word or not ).. Right now itā€™s the quarantine and I donā€™t really have anything to do except read. I was reading a stupid trilogy called Inkheart and it was freakishly boring. But then I remembered that I got The Trials Of Apollo! Wait... then I also remembered that as I was reading the first book, first; it wasnā€™t nearly as good as Percy Jackson, and second; a good part of the book I couldnā€™t read without reading The Heroes Of Olympus! I got the series from amazon and I zipped through all the books until The House Of Hades, which Iā€™m still reading. Also I AM really mad about that toooo big cliffhanger in the Mark Of Athena... anyway Iā€™m-still in the middle of the book but itā€™s too good not to review it right now! I think that all of Rick Riordanā€™s books all have these little excruciatingly exiting short chases and monster battles, with multiple of these in each book with each story revolving around one of the demigods. In this book, The House Of Hades, he masters it the most... I donā€™t like to be one of those reviewers who spoil every sing,e big of the book so Iā€™ll leave it there for now. The only bad thing I have to say about the book, is that I think Rick did a little bit better job on Mark Of Athena, but this book still masters the book satisfaction award! Also my favorite demigod is by far Percy Jackson, and one of my favorite goofy characters is Bob the titan, ( his real name being Iaepites ). Anyway I hope you enjoy this book a ton!

House of Hades. This book was so good. I was so sad that Nico didnā€™t tell Percy his feeling. Anyways I would recommend to anyone.

Best Book Ever. One of the best books i have ever read. An emotional sequel to The Mark of Athena, and perfect preview to the last book of my favorite series.

Again!!. Another great book! It's an amazing book, just like the one before it. It's just amazing, it's sad, it's uplifting, it's got good happy moments, and it has sad depressing ones. But it's always gripping, full of action.

Best book ever. I loved Rick riordans books

My favorite of my favorite series. This is my favorite book by Rick Riordan, which is saying a lot because the Percy Jackson and heroā€™s of Olympus series are my favorites of all time. But House of Hades shows everything in a new light. While before Percy and Annabethā€™s relationship had been fun to read now itā€™s much more than that. The bond created when two people share near death experiences is shown perfectly by Riordan and Percy and Annabeth arenā€™t the only interesting things in this book. His other Demigod characters have just as much crazy dramatic life or death situations plaguing them. I like Frank and Hazel, Jason and Piper have a strange background with his amnesia and all, and Leo and Calypso I think are just there for laughs, and it works. Honestly I almost never read the series for fear it would be about pagan gods and weird Greek rituals, but itā€™s nothing close to that. Itā€™s funny and tense and full of canā€™t put it down cliffhangers (Iā€™m looking at you Mark Of Athena!) I can honestly say this book touched me and was one of those rare books you remember for the rest of your life. And the Percebeth moments made you want to laugh and cry and give them a hug because after all theyā€™ve been through, THIS?? why does Rick torture them so? Hopefully Tower of Nero will reveal that they finally get a break! Anyone who can read, MUST read this book.

so freaking amazing.. ***SPOILER ALERT*** Sorry, major spoilers. I donā€™t just say in a review, ā€˜I love the book.ā€™ if you were looking for that then I suggest you read someone elseā€™s five word rating. When it comes to books I love, I go all out when explaining my thoughts and feelings and rage and happiness and basically everything. Okay I just made a whole paragraph explaining how I talk and write too much. Anyways, im a true fan as youā€™ll be able to see when you read this. Iā€™ve already read all five books but I guess Iā€™ll spare spoilers for the fifth. Only spoilers for books 1-4. NICO (kind of heā€™s not really part of the prophecy and I donā€™t want to spoil the fifth book.) Alright first things first: Percabeth is literally couple goals like theyā€™re so perfect for each other. At the end of The Mark of Athena i was secretly happy that Percy and Annabeth fell in Tartarus just because they were together. But if like, Nico and Annabeth had fallen in I would have been upset since it was rumored Nico liked Annabeth. But then we find out some crucial information... Nicoā€™s gay. And he likes Percy. Tbh I wasnā€™t even mad about that even though he liked the guy who was already in a perfect relationship that has a huge fan base. Nico is low-key an emo tsundere and itā€™s actually kind of adorable. Also, Pernico would be kind of awesome but Percabeth is ancient. Besides, Percy is NOT HIS TYPE! (I hope I have some people who understand... LEO So when Leo fell in Ogygia with Calypso I didnā€™t really care because Calypso annoyed me. I hated how she liked Percy in The Battle of the Labyrinth but I guess itā€™s not really her fault since she her curse is to fall in love with every guy who lands on her island. But I actually loved it when Leo an Calypso bonded because Leo seriously needed a woman in his life. Also, a little side note, Leo is my favorite character in HoO (Percy is a close second). I literally love his jokes and personality, and HIGHLY relate to being a seventh wheel or a third wheel or any piece of useless junk. And the way he makes jokes and laughs things off to hide his pain and sadness is kind of what I do as well. Thatā€™s not really something I should be proud of, but at least I have similar traits to Leo! In the Lost Hero, when Leo was claimed by Hephaestus, I kind of thought, ā€˜Well thatā€™s a lame god. Poor kid.ā€™ But when we found out Leo can summon fire, I immediately thought he got three times cooler. Well, not really since fire and cool are complete opposites. (sorry bad joke.) But actually, being able to build and fix basically everything, Leoā€™s abilities are super cool even without the whole fire thing. Um yeah. That was actually a big side note. So when Leo was on Ogygia I could tell deep down Leo had a small crush on Calypso. He kept commenting on her annoying beauty and cinnamon scented hair. This part from the book made it clear: ā€˜She held up her calloused, grimy fingers. Leo couldnā€™t help thinking there was nothing hotter than a girl who didnā€™t mind getting her hands dirty. But of course, that was just a general comment. Didnā€™t apply to Calypso. Obviously.ā€™ At that point Iā€™m like, ā€œI SHIP IT!ā€ When the raft came for Leo I actually felt kind of sorry for Calypso. But I knew Leo would come back because he swore on the River Styx and you die if you break that oath so yeah. PIPER So Iā€™m just gonna write about all seven heroes (plus Nico.) Im gonna talk about Piper next. So Piper annoyed me from the first book. I just hated how she was keeping the secret of Enceladus wanting her to betray her friends blah blah blah. Like, just tell them! I guess I just thought she would betray her friends. A peeve I have with books is when a character has a secret, and nobody else knows but the reader, and itā€™s so anticipating and weird and you donā€™t know what theyā€™re gonna do about it. The worst thing is when Piper is about to confess, and then COINCIDENTALLY a monster or an annoying Leo (I still love him) bursts in and ruins everything. Then thereā€™s Piperā€™s charmspeak. I mean, it is a super awesome power. You can basically control someone to do your will, which is what she did when she stole that car. But thatā€™s my point. I hated how she has the power to make people do something they donā€™t want to do, and make others feel differently. Also her powers besides charmspeak are bad. Donā€™t get me wrong. Love is good. But itā€™s too corny and lame. I mean, imagine going to a giant and bein like, ā€œHey, Iā€™m gonna kill you with love!ā€ And yes, I know itā€™s more complicated but this is just my thoughts. In conclusion, Love is boring. (I am now realizing I have no soul.) JASON Okay now itā€™s Jason I guess. Heā€™s kind of boring. Like, every chapter for Jason he just explained things and acted like a nerd. Also, Jason and Piperā€™s relationship is boring. Jiper is just boring. Percy be saving his chick 24/7 and being all heroic and loving Annabeth and Jason just flies like the blonde Superman he is. If Jason couldnā€™t fly then Piper would be dead. What Iā€™m trying to say is that Jason relies on his Zeus powers (Zeus is near the bottom of my favorite gods) and you can tell Percy is good at sword fighting. Yeah, Percyā€™s water powers are reliant but he can also do other stuff. Jason gets more attention than he deserves. I also kind of expected Jason to tell Leo about Nicoā€™s secret, Leo would tell Piper, Piper would tell Hazel, Hazel would tell Frank and everyone would know about it. Nico: Guys, I have something to say...Iā€™mā€” Leo: gay. Nico: Wait, you guys know?! Everyone: yeah. Leo: I suspected it before Jason told me to be honest. Nico: *death stares Jason pun intended* Jason: Lol bye. *raises fist into the air like the blonde Superman he is and flies into the sun.* Okay that would actually be hilarious. So um Jason didnā€™t really do anything else. But Iā€™m just gonna spoil one tiny thing from the fifth book. Itā€™s kind of irrelevant to the plot but this struck me as strange. THEY GAVE JASON GLASSES! Itā€™s

House of Hades. Personally my FAVORITE in the series because of the fast paced action and great storyline. This book is impossible to put down! šŸ˜†

ā€œA True Greek Odysseyā€¦.ā€. Since starting the Percy Jackson series, I have found myself enjoying each new installment more than the last but Rick Riordainā€™s ā€œHouse of Hadesā€ might be his greatest book ever. He perfectly blends every character together and lets them shine, making the prophecy of the seven even more apparent and larger then life. Since the ending of ā€œMark of Athenā€ I have been waiting desperately to find out what happens to Percy and Annabeth, not only does this book answer that question but it also sends the other remaining heroes on their own personalized quest that help them grow before their final encounter with the doors of death. While the beginning was a little slow, the book quickly picks up speed and only stops when the time is right.

Not bad. This book in particular was where I felt the series went on for too long. I donā€™t mind it mostly because we get a lot of character development, especially from Nico. Other than Nico, it felt way too slow. But Nico, Iā€™m very glad for Nico. If Nico wasnā€™t in this book, I would have given it 3 stars. Thank god for Nico.

Great. Love all the books he write canā€™t what for the appolo tower of nero book to come out hope you guys are staying 6 feet apart

NICO 4 EVER. This book was literally the goat. Everything that happens keeps you on the edge of your seat. I love all of Ricks books but this one was different. Nico shines in this book he is my favorite character and I love him. On the other hand Percy and Annabeth are the best in this book. This book gave meaning to the 2 days of my life that it took to read it. Thank you everyone who helped make this!

BEST! BOOK! EVER!!!. I love this book! My favorite book in the whole universe! Best series I have ever read in my life! Lots of Percabeth!ā¤ļø

THE FEELS!. This book has ruined my life but it is my favorite book ever. I totally recommend it to anyone of any age. This author is my favorite.

Okay.. I love Percy Jackson and Annabeth and Camp Half-Blood. I first read "The Lightning Thief" two years ago and fell in love with the Percy Jackson series. SO GOOD. This second series is good, but not nearly AS good. In the Percy Jackson series I felt the characters were on point, perfect, so real. It was descriptive and was so creative in the way it portrayed ANCIENT Greek mythology in a modern day light. The main character was witty and sarcastic and awesome. Annabeth is awesome, and so is Grover and Chiron and Rachel and all of them I'm glad my two favorites weren't forgotten in this series, because those five books were GREAT but seemed so short. I adore Percabeth. My thoughts on the new series: I am not as much of a fan of the 3rd person view as the 1st person view. Somehow it makes the characters seem more distant and less real when it used to be 1st person. Also, Percy and Annabeth remain my favorites. I think Frank and Hazel are cool, and Leo is funny. Piper and Jason....I don't know. I just feel like their relationship was too quick, too instant. Like, one day Jason wakes up on the bus and meets Piper. A month later they are boyfriend and girlfriend. Their relationship is just TOO perfect. Before Percabeth got to be Percabeth, Percy and Annabeth were friends for about 4 years and then fought a lot (Annabeth was jealous that Percy almost fell for another girl) before they finally got together. It was so real how they came together. With Piper and Jason, less so. Also, Leo and Calypso. What? I mean, I guess Leo needed somebody but they were even worse. Less than a week and Calypso kisses him? In Percy Jackson, the obstacles were well-crafted and the solutions were believable and made sense. In this book, the situations they land in are always near-impossible. It's like "there's a slight chance this MIGHT work" and then it always works. They just seem lazy, like plot devices. For example, Piper facing Khione. She uses her charmspeak to activate a metal dragon. How? Why? I have no idea, but it was really the only thing she had so Rick "made it work". Even with Percy and Annabeth in Tartarus (there was SO much Percabeth there) when Percy controlled the liquid poison to fight the misery goddess, how? Just because they were in Tartarus was the answer. So yeah.

500000000000. stars. THE BEST BOOK EVER CREATED

Grace. Amazing, loved it. šŸ˜

A little boring.. It was not bad, but it was a little boring because Percy and Annabeth being stuck in Tartarus the whole time, and they werenā€™t doing much. It wasnā€™t the best Percy Jackson book.

BOBšŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜. ā€œTell the stars helloā€-Bob

CLEO4Ever. āš ļøspoilerāš ļø Calypaso and leo are the best couple of all of the 7

I have no words for this to describe it's amazing. I love it plenty of Serious moments but count on Percy and Leo to make this fun, and "the story teller of the gods"makes this funny, informational but above all interesting

Just readā€¦. To the person that said that including LGBTQIA+ characters ā€œruined the seriesā€: REPRESENTING MARGINALIZED IDENTITIES IS NOT PC INDOCTRINATION!!! This is a great book, and RR is a great author. I especially love how he includes lots of representation of marginalized identities. As an LGBTQIA+ individual, this makes me feel seen and included in the fantasy genre, which has painfully little representation. Sure, he may be doing it sort of heavy-handedly, but at least heā€™s trying, which is more than most authors are doing.

Great! But..... I love this series! I really do! But Nico? Really?

EXCELLENT. I love RR books and iā€™m reading it for the second or third time?? This sequel to the Percy Jackson books is action packed and fun to read!! I love how RR depicts Percy and Annabethā€™s relationship!! Their bond really grew through out the series. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!! I certainly recommend this book to anyone. I also like that there is no pagen or ā€œ saying that little g gods are real ā€œ stuff but RR still made a fun book for us to enjoy!!

The house of Hades. I like how Rick or the author describes how things and people look well enough that I can see them in my mind. And the fight scenes are epic as always.

:ā€™(. Why does *spoiler* die. Iā€™m sorry, maybe Iā€™m a little wimpy about this but I canā€™t continue with this series Iā€™m just-. Broken. How can I move on?

Good book. Good book

Grate!. This book is so entertaining! There are many plot twists and monsters that never let you put the book down. I love how Riordan introduces homosexuality in one of the characters; it helps introduce kids to the LGBTQ+ community. Also, Leo falling in love is the best thing yet! All in all I totally suggest this book for all readers.

Phenomenal. I am not surprised that this book is awesome. This book has to be my favorite In both series of Percy Jackson. I definitely recommend reading it, although if you haven't read the previous books there is a big chance you will not understand it.

Really Rick?!. The mark of Athena was the best book in the world but there's one thing I'm concerned about. Rick, one does not throw the two greatest heroes into the pit and make us wait a whole to find out what happens!!!!

So creative. It was the best

Oh my gods !. This was the best book EVER! I am sad for bob tho šŸ˜ tell the stars hello

The house of hades. Ever since I started reading Rick Riordan books I loved it right away. But when I started reading ā€œ The mark of Athena ā€œ I was like So good so far! And then at the end of the book it was so good I almost started getting all you know like out of control! And then I search on google to see what next book about ā€œ The mark Athena ā€œ to read but after! And so I found ā€œ The house of Hades ā€œ I was like yeah let me go and try to find this book! Iā€™m gonna find a way to read this! I donā€™t care what anyone says Iā€™m reading this book!!!!

Oh my gods!. So everyone is saying, ā€œYeah, Nicoā€™s gay.ā€ And Iā€™m like, ā€œWhat the Hades?ā€ Itā€™s so weird! And he likes Percy? (I need a moment.) šŸ˜± And thereā€™s a cliffhanger in this book? (Sorry, guys. I canā€™t stand those.) #cliffhangerhater. But one TEENSY little complaint, Rick. Jiper is uncool. I hate it. It seems forced, and Jason acts cool, and he WAS cool in The Lost Hero, but I know heā€™s pretty much nothing without his powers. I mean, he has that Imperial gold sword, but I swear he never uses it! Percy, on the other hand, is pretty good with his powers, but he can also sword fight with Riptide. Same thing for Piper. Without her charm speak, sheā€™s like, ā€œUh, huh! Totally got this, you giant! Iā€™m gonna kill you with love!ā€ Now, Iā€™ve got nothing against Aphrodite or her children, but Piperā€™s pretty helpless without her charm speak. But in the end it was pretty good.

Excellent. I loved it! Great characters, great story, great representation. I couldnā€™t put it down.

Excellence. These books are great. Although I'm going to get it in hardcover.

Awesomeness !!. U have got to read these books i think these books r absolutely amazing!!šŸ˜ƒ

Best series ever!!!!. Just finished reading house of hades and I can't wait for the blood of Olympus!!!

Honestly.... Honestly... THESE BOOKS ARE WRITTEN BETTER THAN LIFE ITSELF! I've read the Kane Chronicles, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the Heroes of Olympus, and all those other special books like Demigod Diaries and stuff like that. Rick Riordan describes the thoughts of the teenagers PERFECTLY. It's like when I read his books, I enter my own world filled with awesomeness. Whenever I meet a kid who doesn't know about Rick Riordan, I am secretly outraged, so I tell them all about it, and 2 weeks later they email me, and they say: "DUDE! BEST AUTHOR EVER!" And I'm like: "Of course... Why else would I spend an hour describing his awesomeness to you?" So yeah... If you haven't read all of his books, I suggest you start reading, because if you don't, you're missing out on a LOT. But I think you should get hardcover. It's much easier, but what ever you want to do is fine. All in all, I love reading his stories more than I love living life! :O

AMAZING!!!!. The book was just amazing. Cant wait to read the next one! Rick explains the book so well! Great book! Thatā€™s why I give it 5 starsāļøāļøāļøāļøāļø

HOUSE OF HADES. Did an awesome Job at writing A story with many twists and turns that change the outcome of what I thought it would be

In Demigods We Trust. These books have changed my life forever. I absolutely love them with all my heart! I feel like anyone can connect to these incredible characters no matter how old you are. I also love the mix of genres; adventure, fantasy, and romance. If you haven't read these books yet, I completely recommend them. Your view of the world will change forever. I am proud to say that I am now and forever will be a demigod.

Action packed!. Loved this book. Favourite Rick Riordan book ever!! And favourite book ever! Probably the best book I've ever read, action packed and funny (well. SOMETIMES) and filled with stuff for da percabeth fans.

AMAZING. OH MY GOSH I LOVES RICK RIORDAN HE IS THE BEST WRITER EVER
