In Innocence, Dean Koontz blends mystery, suspense, and acute insight into the human soul in a masterfully told tale that will resonate with readers forever.

He lives in solitude beneath the city, an exile from society, which will destroy him if he is ever seen.

She dwells in seclusion, a fugitive from enemies who will do her harm if she is ever found.

But the bond between them runs deeper than the tragedies that have scarred their lives. Something more than chance—and nothing less than destiny—has brought them together in a world whose hour of reckoning is fast approaching.

Praise for Innocence

“A thriller that’s both chilling and fulfilling.”—People (four stars)

“Laced with fantastical mysticism, it’s an allegory of nonviolence, acceptance and love in the face of adversity. . . . The narrative is intense, with an old-fashioned ominousness and artistically crafted descriptions. . . . An optimistic and unexpected conclusion [mirrors] his theme. Something different this way comes from Mr. Koontz’s imagination. Enjoy.”—Kirkus Reviews

“Mystery and terror, the paranormal and romance—all combine to make Innocence a challenging and emotional experience.”—New York Journal of Books

“This novel really is something special. . . . This may just be the book Dean Koontz was born to write.”—Thriller Books Journal

“Entrancing . . . as speedy a chase-thriller as any Koontz . . . has ever constructed. Written in Koontz’ late mellifluent and reflective manner . . . [Innocence is] fueled by deep disgust with the world’s evils [and] hope for redemption.”—Booklist (starred review)

“[An] imaginative, mystical thriller from bestseller Koontz . . . This is the most satisfying Koontz standalone in a while.”—Publishers Weekly

“Masterful storyteller Koontz delivers perhaps his most eerie and unusual tale to date. The timeline in this amazing story is compact, and readers will be swept along as they try to unravel hints and clues as to the true nature of both the protagonists and the unfolding drama. Unpredictably spine-chilling and terrifying, this is a story readers won’t soon forget.”—RT Book Reviews

“Elegant . . . Fans of Koontz’s previous series will be left hoping that Addison and Gwyneth, too, will return.”—Library Journal

Very much a Dean Koontz novel.... Inspiring and imaginative. In a world where so many are deeply, sickly, evil he finds the truly honest and honorable, humble and innocent. Uniquely inspirational.

Awesome. Second only to Odd!

Boring. On second thought, ultra boring.

Innocence. A good read...never judge a book by its cover!

Innocence. This sad and wonderous story moved me in ways I’m hard-put to express. And because Koontz seems to understand how in shadow, light shines all the brighter, a reader can (as I did) move through ultimate tragedy to arrive in a place filled with hope and wonder. This is a luminous book.

Innocence. Whew! This story took my breath away. Dean Koontz is Still the master! Fantastic book. Highly recommend this great read to everyone. Thank you sir. I wish there were more than five stars to rate. Forever fan , J. Patterson

Innocence. Brutal, I did make it through the book always hoping to understand the ugliness and Innocence and unfortunately never did. I haven't read his stuff for a long time and it will probably be another long time that I do again.

Not up to his usual excellence. This book was entertaining the elusive mystery of the native personality was great. The end saccharine sweet, smarmy and ludicrously embellished left a bitter aftertaste. Not at all what I would expect from a story teller as superb as Dean Koontz. Wait for a different novel and pass this one by.

Innocence. Excellent. Good ending!

Inspiring. Mr. Koontz has an ability to use language that resonates to the depths of our souls. The characters are as real as we wish them to be, and their perils and triumphs become ours. This is not an easy beach read but one that will have you question life and the part you play in it.

Boring, tedious read.. Not one of his better books, IMO. Leaves the reader with too many questions and no answers. The story plods on, bogging down in tedious descriptions and details that add nothing of importance to the story. Then right out of the blue, a plague destroys all mankind except the few innocent pure characters. Animals aren’t affected by the plague, but in its aftermath they all become herbivores, ceasing to hunt and kill other animals for food. Really? Seems like the story just fizzed out with nowhere to go.

Literary masterpiece. Could not put it down. Beautiful.

Innocence. Koontz is a talented writer with an incredible imagination. However, this book was a disappointment. I found the first 80 to 90% of the book to be depressing, and the remainder to be too fanciful, contrived, and just plain weird. Sorry, Dean, but I can't recommend this one.

Innocence. This was one of the most beautiful books I have read. Completely captivating it moves you.

Innocence. Loved it, really loved it.

A decent book, but not my favorite from Koontz. There was so much about this book that I loved...such as his amazing story telling ability and character development. He pulls you into the story and you don't want to put it down. But he sometimes gets so bogged down in the details that it starts to lose the readers attention. I was also frustrated that he never really described Addison's appearance - and what little understanding you get doesn't happen until near the end of the book! Lastly, the ending felt rushed and incomplete. So many questions were left unanswered, in my opinion.

Innocence. I found his book riveting, compelling, and a source of hope.

Somewhat predicable. Maybe I've read too many Koontz novels, as it seemed I knew what was coming and how the book would end. It has a nice denouement, akin to children's lit, wherein everything and everyone is together having a picnic in the end. Somewhat entertaining, and somewhat predictable. Would I say it was his best work, or close to, no. I'd relinquish it to the "it's okay" category.

Great read. More fanciful than his Odd books, this book keeps your interest to the very different ending. Although it has great characters, I still his book Watchers a lot more. Read that and compare for yourself.

A marvelous tale. Koontz has spun a story of hope that can reach into the soul of everyone. Thank you sir.

Innocence. Again, a great story.

INNOCENCE. Thank you for another opportunity to step into another theater, stand on another stage and participate in another play. A play offering love and hope for a better future. It is always a pleasure, a thrill and an inspiration to pick up your books. With best regards Johnna Edsberg

A Little Fantasy. Fun. Wholesome. Enjoyable. Even when the story so closely mirrors our own “plague.”

Awesome. Dean Knootz you write really strange and awesome stories ever time I pick one of yours to read you never disappoint. This book is great loved the characters and the stories hope this does not happen but know it could. Keep writing we enjoy all that you do.

Innocent. Profound but simplistic in its views

Innocence. Just ok !

Innocence. Possibly his best, most inspiring work.

Not worth reading. I'm usually a fan of Koontz's work. But this is just not worth reading. The key plot device isn't very intriguing, many passages are grandiloquent, and the characters don't engender any sense of empathy. If I were to give a one word review it would be: blah

Thanks. Again you have taken me where I could not go before.Thank you.

Innocence. I usually only read the "Odd Thomas" series by Dean Koontz which I greatly enjoy. My niece suggested that I would also like "Innocence" so I decided to try it. It is a very good book & I enjoyed it as much as the "Odd Thomas" series. It is very different than the other books, but nevertheless I found it engaging & extremely well written. The characters are believe able & the ending was quite a surprise. Try it. You'll like it.

Innocence. Amazing! A masterpiece that touches all emotions. One of the best books I have read - ever.

Koontz book Innocence. Is by far the best book I have ever read. The profound touch of true innocence is incredible. Mj

Innocence. I have read just a little bit of the book and I like just what I read hope this friend will get the book for me

Innocence. This is a powerfully moving book. I could not put it down as I was so engrossed in not just the characters but the beautifully written book itself! Dean Koontz... This by far is the best book you have written and that I have ever read. Thank you for sharing this story.

Innocence. What a boring and horribly over detailed writing. Lots of fill- in stories within that have nothing to do with the overall tale. Waste of money.

If I could give this book 10 stars, I would.. This was my first Koontz novel. It was amazing. Masterfully written, it sucked me right in and kept me turning the pages until the end. I loved the characters, the way the author made me feel, the way he allowed me to experience this world (which is a true feat since it's not all rainbows and sunshine, but far darker than what I normally go for). I had always thought Koontz wrote horror (a genre I avoid) so I was cautious at first. But this is not horror, not really, for it delivers an inspiring message and a truly satisfying ending that will make you put this book in your "read again" pile AND make you agonize over which one of his works to read next.

Innocence. I have long been a true fan of Dean Koontz. He has an unusual way of writing and I had forgotten this fact when I began this novel. It begins slow and I was questioning why I couldn’t get into this particular story. Of course, there was a reason, Dean Koontz was setting the stage. Everything was intertwined with an eventual connection. I ended up loving the story.

Thoughts On Dean Koontz. As a voracious reader in my early-forties, I have read countless books of varying genres. I am sometimes overjoyed and sometimes disappointed, as with everything in life. I discovered Mr. Koontz's books in my early teens, when I had a fascination with horror novels. As I'm sure many others feel, when you are lucky enough to find a single author who's words not only horrify you, or delight you, or bring you to tears but somehow manage to do all of those things, as well as cause you to examine your own actions and the quality of your life, deeds and soul....you have come across someone truly special and are blessed by his work. Mr. Koontz...if ever you read this, I thank you. The ending of every one of your books is like the death of a friend. The world is much better for you having lived in it and I thank you for sharing your beauty with people like me.

Good book. I loved the story and highly recommend the book.

Love it!. I have read all of Mr. Koonz' books and find that as he ages the books contain more of what is real , what is right with mankind. That one thing is love. Quoting from the Beatles, " All you need is love." I love the image of the dogs surrounding them at the end and think that Trixie was there leading the pack. Thank you.

Brilliant!. This is a must read!! If you allow it, this can be a life changing tale...

You need coffee to get through it. Very bad book. I can't understand how it gets any good ratings. It is for people who like to read for a few moments and then take a nap.

Innocence. If this book is as good as his others, it will be another hit. The suspense builds just from the 32 pages I've read. Looking forward to December!

Wow!. Marvelous story! I would say Innocence is Dean Koontz' best novel of all time. I resisted the urge to read the last chapter first; something told me I would ruin things. It took until it was spelled out what was "wrong" with Addison, although I did feel that he and Gwyneth would become a couple. Scary, sad, hopeful....all at the same time. Again, wow!

Innocence. From the teaser we got here, looks to be a nice read. Looking forward to release in December as well.

#1. Best Book I’ve ever read!

innocence. I love Dean Koontz, however, I was disappointed in this story. Very drawn out and then having a plague consume the world out of the blue, with the heroes of the story surviving because of their differences, just seems to be following a worn out script. I am hoping the next Koontz novel will be more original and page turning....
