The King by J.R. Ward Book Summary

J.R. Ward's # 1 New York Times bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood continues as a royal bloodline is compromised by a grave threat to the throne.

Long live the King…

After turning his back on the throne for centuries, Wrath, son of Wrath, finally assumed his father’s mantle--with the help of his beloved mate. But the crown sets heavily on his head. As the war with the Lessening Society rages on, and the threat from the Band of Bastards truly hits home, he is forced to make choices that put everything--and everyone--at risk.

Beth Randall thought she knew what she was getting into when she mated the last pure blooded vampire on the planet: An easy ride was not it. But when she decides she wants a child, she’s unprepared for Wrath’s response--or the distance it creates between them.

The question is, will true love win out... or tortured legacy take over?

Love love love "The King". More please...

I love Wrath and Beth!!!. I don't think I have enjoyed a BDB brotherhood book since I first read the first book in the series. And that was also on Wrath and Beth. I couldn't put this book down. Not only did I read this in 2 days but thank goodness I have 2 iPads to read them from since my battery went dead on both devices. Thank you J. R. Ward for another great BDB book. I can't wait for the me t one to come out"

The Best Book of the Series. This might be the best book so far. The lessers were much less a part of the story. The political intrigue was great. This felt much different to the other novels in the series so far, but it was a lovely change of pace. The books were starting to bleed together. This one absolutely stands out.

Yay!!!!. She's done it again! JR Ward has made me fall in love with Beth and Wrath all over again! I need more! -goes back into her hole- Precious!!!

The King. Excellent read! J.R. outdid herself with this one and ended the series beautifully...or did she end it? The door is still open for more and I'll be waiting.

Best series I've ever read. This is the best series of books I've ever read couldn't put them down. The wait for this last book "The King" was well worth it. The best book in the series. The black dagger brotherhood is a must read for any fan of vampire novels.

Love the series- BUT not my favorite. I love this series! It's world is detailed and captivating with characters that inspire emotional attachment. I'm going to be honest and say that this book wasn't my favorite. I was looking forward to the continuance of the original power couple. The King and Queen that started it all! There were so many different storylines going that we maybe had those characters in play once every three chapters or so. I found myself skimming over a large portion of the book because it wasn't appealing to me or I really wanted to see what was next in a specific storyline and not wait another 50 pages for it.

The King. This is by far the best book in the series! I thought initially, "Why another book about Wrath and Beth?" But this book was so necessary and at the right time. I think she has laid the ground work for many more books to follow. You just can't help but love every character's story and this book has left the door open to follow serval of them. I am counting the days for the next book!!

Needed a little bit more. I couldn't put this book down, so many stories in one might have been a little much because there was so much left hanging in the end. Everything was great and I loved what was there but what about the rest??? I'm sure this can't be the end with so much unknown. But come on Beth has her baby before Layla or did she and we just don't know? Did she leave with Xcor? I really think their story dropped out of this book too soon. Dang it J.R I need another book real quick. Such a cliffhanger!!

The King. Good read!! Enjoyed this latest edition of BDB!!

The King. Another great edition to the series, and another great edition to the Brotherhood family (wink wink). This is truly a series I wish wouldn’t ever end!

Long live The King. Another great story about the Black Dagger Brotherhood. This story focuses on Beth and Wrath- whether or not they have child. There are side stories about Trez & his brother iAm, Assail & Sola, and Xcor & Layla. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next installment. The King is one of the best in the series. I really love the underlying themes of accepting people for who they are and not what they are.

Deserves 7⭐️s!!!. Awesome book. Very well done, Ms. Ward. Officially my new favorite BDB book (tied with Z and Bella's). PLEASE keep up the good work!

Good. Good book. Loved to read their continuing story.

Slow reading.. Expensive and slow to read. Seems characters get lost in the plot.

LOVE LOVE LOVED IT. I was a little hesitant about reading this one. I was afraid she had ruined Beth and Wrath for me. But it was awesome. I loved their development. J.R still left us hanging with so many couples, but I guess we have to wait for the next book, right? Well she better write fast! The waiting is agony!!

Long live the KING..... Well.....I will say that I absolutely love the series, but I was a bit disappointed with this book. The back and forth style of writing gave me some serious whiplash. It is a cool idea, but not for an entire book. I am very excited that Beth survived the pregnancy, and the Wrath's parents story was introduced, but what happened to the "scribe virgin"?????

Great. This reads like the last book, please keep writing them, love them all

The king. Love it, love it it's all I can say 💗💗💗💗💗💗

The King. J.R. Ward hits a home run again with the latest book in the series of The Brotherhood of The Black Dagger. I just can't get enough of these amazing characters, I laughed and cried and didn't want it to end if you haven't read the series I urge you to explore the world Ward has created you to will fall In love with the intense Brothers and there family. I hope she is planning another soon I can't wait!

Her best one so far.. Probably her best yet. Less about the lessening society war. This one is heartfelt. You’ll fall in love with Wrath son of Wrath all over again.

Another's great read!. Just another in the list of amazing books in this series! Great read with loads of adventure and romance. I've loved every book in this series that I've read and can't wait to read more by this extraordinary author.

JR Ward. I just love this author. She has a way with keeping you on the edge of your seat wondering what's going to happen next while also making you laugh & cry & get angry.

Is This The End?. JR Ward has outdone herself!!! This was awesome. If it is the end of the series it was great! I'm hopeful for another book but if not this was the way to end the Brotherhood series. Good work JR!

One word.... Amazing!! As always another BDB book that had me wanting to read more. A beautiful story, with the true meaning to life... "Love" Without love and family, we are nothing and The King captured that perfectly.

I freaking love this book!!. This is my favorite so far!! I laughed, I cried, and of course got a little hot and bothered!! JR Ward is officially my favorite author!!

Blown away again!!. I was only disappointed with 2 books in the entire series, lover enshrined (Phury) and I wasn't thrilled with lover at last (Quinn and Blay) but JR Ward's brain and health have to be blessed because she needs to keep writing these books to keep us all entertained. I really can't express how much I loved the King. It was one of my favorites. I can't wait to hear more about the Shadows and Assail/Sola. I just wish we didn't have to wait a full year. I guess with perfection you need patience. Just one thing I was disappointed with that there was no mention about Quinn's brother Lucas and the past few books don't mention the scribe Virgin, the Omega and lessers.

Simply the best. I didn't know what to expect in The King, but wow, it wasn't this story. Guess that's why I read and don't write! I can't say enough about this episode in the BDB, I just didn't want this story to end. I hate that I have to wait for the next one, but at the same time I wouldn't want to have her rush and put out anything less the her best. Thank you J R Ward.

Next book already!. The King was awesome. I had no problems following the shift between characters in the sub-stories because the writing was fantastic. I can't wait for The Shadows or Assail and Sola's story.

The King. Though not my favorite of these books - and to be honest, I skipped through a few chapters - I was very happy with the outcome. But as usual there are many story lines left unfinished: I'm still waiting for the Band of Brothers to get their act together and join/work with the Brotherhood. We have yet to hear how Leila's pregnancy and strange interest in Xcor will pan out. And WHEN will John be "reunited" with Darius?! I'm tired of the tease!

Love your books. I absolutely love all your books since I picked up my very first one when I Glover came out is when I fell in love with the serious my favorite characters Beth wrath, I felt like an all your books that I'm part of the book that when the characters are celebrating I'm right there celebrating with them I absolutely enjoyed this reading and reading about my favorite characters again had tears of joy in my eyes!!

Too many subplots. The King was supposed to be Wrath's story right? And Beth and a baby? Instead there was an entire book of filler in between the Wrath & Beth story about all kinds of things and people I didn't care about. So I skipped all that other stuff and read just the part about the King & Beth. This is my last JR Ward book. I hate what she's done to this amazing series and I hate that she doesn't care about what her readers want to read. I love the Brotherhood but I'm done with their writer.

Amazing. Another awesome book in this series. Each one has made me laugh and made me cry. I love this author.

Soooo good! Gimme more!. Love this series so much! I think this is my second fave, only next to Z's story! Laughs, tears...great stuff!

Wow... This might have been my favorite so far.. they are all breathtakingly amazing.

The king...awesome.... Absolutely wonderful ending..wonderful book!!!

Worst. I'm a total fan of the black dagger brotherhood series....with that being said I can say without a shadow of doubt that this book the king was by far the worst! I mean I barely got through it....totally cheesy and boring.... I think that J.R. has run out of options for the brothers.

<3. I love it ! I don't want to express my feelings towards it because I don't want to spoil anything but I love Beth and Wrath !

Just excellent. Love it ! Congrat waiting for the shadow

The king. Exciting, romantic, great action plot.

It's OK. Brings everyone back but tries to do too much. It's OK. Looking forward to the Sola/Assail storyline.

Never disappoints. JR Ward never disappoints. I could not put this book down. Now to read it hard copy. Twice will be nice!!!

The King. "Spectacular"

Perfection, yet again.. JR Ward has given us yet another amazing brotherhood tale to love. I always hate when they end, but she has opened so many more doors for more books about the characters we all love. Keep them coming please.

The king. Too predictable! I don't think it was her best... And would have liked to see more depth with Wrath and Beth instead of the predictable....

I want some more.. I do not think I can wait an entire year for the next novel. Mayhap a novella in six months :) Thanks in advance, true!

Wow. The best book yet in the series hands down. Seriously I love that she tells all the different stories together and how she went back to Wraths parents. Please keep writing these books!!

Awesome. Love this series, this book made up for the last one. Wrath and Beth are my favorite couple.

the king. Loved this book!

The King. This has been one of the best books of the BDB series.

Amazing Series. How is this not an HBO series?? Cant wait for more :)

Not as good as previous. There are too many weak story lines running at the same time, that are not thematically linked to compliment the arch of the novel. I enjoyed the previous novels in this series better.

Loved it!. Thank you for yet another awesome story! Can't wait for more!

Always a pleasure. I can't wait for the new BDB book every year! I really enjoyed discovering Trez and can't wait for Xcor story's to unfold.

Please wait! The King book comments loading...
