Neanderthal Seeks Human. This was one of the funniest, entertaining romances I have read in years. My husband refers to my off-the-Wall brainy comments as “There goes a Rabbit”. It was funny to read an exaggerated version of what I do and also appreciated by an equally smart and protective man. I rarely purchase sequels, because the author didn’t generate the desire to read more. However, in this case I bought the second book immediately. On a personal note, my husband a retired US Navy Seal has two PhDs, but I only have one. Great job.

Beware of the Wendell. Neanderthal Seeks Human was a wordy story about Janie whose world was knocked upside on a Tuesday when her boyfriend cheated on her, she lost her job, and she was homeless all in one day. Quinn, the security guard, escorted her from the building where Janie had been stalking Quinn for the last five weeks, prior to her losing her job. Janie belongs to a knitting group where women gossip and drink wine. Janie also has an aversion to owning a cell phone. She collected comic books. I really tried to find Janie's character intellect enduring, but it really was random nonsense. Janie was a smart knowledgeable character, yet ignorant when guys were flirting with her. Basically, Janie lacked common knowledge about men. Janie compared herself to a Neanderthal while Quinn was the human she was seeking. This girl is beyond quirky. I found Janie's behavior similar to an immature high schooler behaving stubbornly when people were trying to help with mature solutions to her problems. Janie was an absolute ditz. This character lacked common knowledge about reading people, especially men. Penny spent to much time rambling. It became a chore to read this nonsense which I'm sure was supposed to be part of the charm, yet I found boring. “my pursuit of trivial knowledge and the avalanche of verbal nonsense that spewed forth unchecked did little to endear me to men”. Her character was even quoted as being a walking verbal diarrhea encyclopedia of knowledge when she became nervous. The story progressed slowly. Even the title is weird. This was my first read by Penny Reid. I hoped with the cute cover to get a sweet and funny read. I imagined a completely different type of story and characters. This series Knitting in the City implied a fun rom-com romance not some seductive Wendell trying to claim Non-Wendell dating guy who represented everything she was against. The book was excruciatingly long with far too many details. I didn't find Janie's character appealing. Even though, Quinn seemed intrigued by Janie's odd trivia knowledge I found it boring to read. Which is what led me to start skimming through the dialogue in search of relevant material. Penny couldn't give a straight answer to save her life. Every question was followed by a series of Wikipedia entries. Sadly, Janie's character with her random rambling was not a fun read. I never felt the connection nor understood the appeal.

Brilliant. I am at awe with the easygoing, eclectic vernacular used with this character, Janie. This author is brilliant.

Knitting. Penny’s books are the best example I’ve ever read of how funny and smart can be very sexy.

I Absolutely Love It!!!. I really enjoyed reading this book. It was really good and I enjoyed some laughs as well.

Knitterally Obsessed. I think I first read this book when it first came out in 2013 and I remember being so blown away by Reid’s characters. This is a laugh-out-loud kind of book, a just-can’t-help-it-crazed-smile-on-the-subway kind of book. The characters are down to earth, understandable, funny; they make you root for them as you learn more and more about them. Janie was a breath of fresh air. I felt myself in her—even though I’m not able to spout out really precise, random facts. She’s awkward but you never feel like that awkwardness is misplaced, or like it’s just a show the author is trying to sell you. And how do I even start with Quinn. I think I’ve been waiting for my own Quinn since this book came out. Sigh, it has not happened yet, but here’s to hoping! I absolutely recommend this book. I’ve read it at least a dozen times. It’s one of those books you come back to when it’s a rainy day, an instant pick-me-up. Well done, Ms. Reid.

2nd Title better. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, but the ‘A Smart Romance” is a better name for it. The main characters are interesting and I love how she works thru her self image issues. But, I loved her friends even more. Told with more truth than a lot of romances. Thanks

Disappointed. Liked it at first and then the main character and her neurotic self became quite irritating. I gave it the benefit of the doubt hoping the simmering romance would at least have a awesome sex scene...what a let down!

Wonderful title. One review described this novel as “too wordy” that is not the case. The main character is an extremely intelligent and socially awkward young women and Penny Reid does a wonderful job of developing her character. If it wasn’t so “wordy” we’d not be able to fully appreciate and understand the heroine.

Neanderthal Seeks Human. I have to say, this is by far, a total waste of time. In the description, they said it was humorous, witty, etc. Either the author has an extremely dry sense of humor (dryer than the Sahara desert) or someone was mis-informed. This was very boring.

Wonderful Characters. I'm so happy I read this book and subsequently the rest of Penny Reid's books. The characters are interesting and the stories are told in are told in a refreshing way. As someone who reads a lot, and especially romance a thin, recycled plot is easy to see through. I don't feel that way when I'm reading this series or the Winston bros series. The characters and their stories just feel real and relatable. I wanted to review this because it was the first one I read, and it introduced me to this great author.

Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid. Wow I enjoyed this book so much ! The story that builds between Janie and Quinn finding each other is priceless , there are times I laughed so hard I had tears . Janie is the perfect person for Quinn. I can’t imagine how anyone could read this book without getting such a good feeling when reading it. In my opinion Penny did a fantastic job writing it.

Words....... Does it make sense if I say there are too many words? I am sure the amount of descriptions were to hi light her neuroses but there was an over abundance of words that took away from the story I felt.

Knitting Obsession. I read the first two books of the Knitting in the City series a while ago. Thought they were cute and decided against buying more. Just re-read/read ALL the books in the series and I'm obsessed. Jenny's writing is enthralling, I enjoyed immensely. Not the steamiest of novels in regards to sex scenes but the relationships and how they're developed is phenomenal. Easy, light, fun reads. Can't wait for the next story!

Too wordy.. I liked this book. The writing was good. The characters were good as well. I found myself chuckling and getting teary eyed too. It was very romantic, and not too predictable. The author has a way with words, and I got invested in the story. Unfortunately, the story had way too many details! I ended up skimming through a lot of the story because of this. I also wish that she would have developed the story in regard to the main character’s family.

OMG I LOVED IT. So so good! I read it start to finish non stop! Some of Janie’s ramblings went on and on, but that makes her endearing. Fell in love with Quinn! Mr Mchotiepants! On to the next book!

Didn’t want to put it down!. It’s been a long time since I was so involved with a book and it’s characters that I wanted to read it every spare second I had. The book was cute, funny with lots of twists and turns. I loved to see the character development but there is still more about them that I want/need to know! Simply this is a GREAT book!

Good read a little light on "action". Overall I really enjoyed this book. It was well written, smart and funny. I prefer hot sex in my romance and this lacked in that category. When I wait for a couple to finally get together I want all the nitty gritty details!

First borrowed, then bought. I read the Winston Bros series first though my library and loved them so much I ended up buying them as well as the Knitting series. Witty writing, believable scenarios, and descriptions that help you perfectly picture the places, characters and their emotions. I’m holding out hope for an Agent Nelson story!

Too many unnecessary words , to fill quota on publishing.. Main character has strange quirks, and you can skip several pages of unnecessary reading and not miss anything. It does have a decent ending.

This was such a cute and funny book!. Janie is a straight up McSmarty pants. The random trivia facts that she spouts off is awesome. I like that she was nerdy/quirky and Quinn aka McHotpants loved every inch about her. I enjoyed the epilogue in Quinn's POV. It was so sweet how much he loved and adored her.

Four stars because.... Janie’s naïveté about Quinn’s identity becomes rather annoying in the second quarter of the book, rendering it a bit painful and slow to get through — but things finally take off in the second half. While some later scenes were a bit far-fetched and predictable, the storyline and character development were cute. Probably won’t read the rest of the series, though.

Ok read. This story is ok but unbelievable. I liked that he was attracted to her even though she was different. However, he remained weird through the entire story without a reason. Plus it wasn’t really romantic to me.

Funny! Smart! Brilliant!. Janie is one of those super smart people who, due to a difficult childhood, has developed ecentric coping habits (which are often funny). She comes across as being mildly Aspbergers (though whether she is or not doesn’t really matter). The story starts the day she is made redundant ie fired for no known reason…she is having a day from hell…that morning she learned her boyfriend not only cheated on her, he left the condum packet in his pocket where she found it doing laundry. To make her humiliation complete the building guard who shows up to escort her out of the building is the Hottie she’s been stalking/eying for two weeks. To her surprise he addresses her in the elevator and in her nervousness she starts spewing facts like a verbal Wikipedia for the blind. This is a brilliant romance that made me laugh all the way through…and I could totally believe these two people would fall in love. The story is told from Janie’s perspective which leaves lots of unknowns…allowing the plot to unfold without knowing what will happen. I’m in the middle of one of the author’s other stories and I have to say she’s going on my favorite author lists.

Fellow Neanderthal. Couldn't put it down. Could relate to Janie and her wandering mind a little to much, and what girl doesn't love a happy ending.

Such a good read. Loved the quirkiness of the female character and the bond of her female friends but also how much the guy really accepted her for who she was

Enjoyable story, really liked Janie, but only give 4 stars cuz I actually got a headache reading the book from her perspective, would have liked Quinn's POV a bit more than just the epilogue to have a break from her overly analytical POV. Good read, regardless and looking forward to the next book.

Loved this book. I loved Janie’s over analytical mind, and laughed out loud reading some of her thoughts. Cheesy, but lovely. I love that this is as much about friendship as it is about a guy.

A 5 star read. What an incredible first novel from this author. I love the way Janie speaks her rambling thoughts out loud, what a character, she reminds me of Don Tillman in 'The Rosie Project'. Now big decision time: do I get the follow-up book to continue the story or will I be disappointed if the standard of writing is not as good?

Neanderthal wants Human. What a hilariously funny love story!! The plot was great, the characters superb and Janie was truly delightful. Penny Reid had her personality, foibles & idiosyncrasies down pat to such an extent that one wonders if, in fact, she may have similar qualities? I am a 70 yr old male who just stumbled across this book in i-books & bought it for a laugh --- I got plenty and enjoyed it so much I'll go looking for more of Penny's work now. Janie, in some ways, reminds me of my beautiful wife of 30 yrs. we're still happy & couldn't imagine ever being apart. We still laughter at & with each other & tease like crazy. Prodigious (got your attention, right?). It has been a long time since a book has had me so engrossed that I haven't been able to put it down (as in 2am reading marathon). I'm a disgustingly avid one click queen for romance (due to the lack of it in real life). A lot of them are predictable and fuzzy, but still leave you with a smile and satisfied closure for the characters. THIS BOOK is intelligent, witty and incredibly frustrating at times (in a really good way). The development of characters and story line reminded me to raise my standards for achieving the warm and fuzzies, with twists and turns along the way.......well done!

Hmmm. I thought I was going to love this book by a few chapters in, but by then end I was kinda meh about it. Tbh most of this was due to the fade to black spice. Ugh. So frustrating! The anticipation and build up was so good!! Then nothing! If that’s what you’re in to then you’ll probably like this, but I want to read about it hahaha. Also, the big drama towards the end was weirdly written IMO. Like kinda past tense and it was like someone was telling you what happened but they were kinda rushing through it. Anyway, this is book one in a series so I’ll go read something else and decide if I want to come back for book two. Single POV (except for the epilogue), medium fade to black spice, 16+

Janie’s younger sister Jen is a criminal and a psychopath. Janie doesn’t think Quinn could be attracted to her, but they have sizzling chemistry. This quirky book is much more satisfying than your average romance novel.

Great Read. The cover is ghastly, the name is worse but the book is a really good read. It has dept, interesting characters and a better than average storyline.

"Neanderthal seeks Human" by Penny Reid. First of all, I just LOVED the author's dedication, something I normally skim over. It gave a good indication of the style of book to come in the next pages. I was immediately captivated by Janie, who is hilariously bizarre. Her inner dialogues and off-the-wall tangents are a hoot! I had to reread the first chapter because it was so funny. Actually, I reread most of the book because I was so entertained by the interactions between Quinn and Janie. In addition, I loved learning about all the trivia Janie spouted uncontrollably. A brilliantly good read!! I did not want this book to end. Penny Reid is a new author for me and now, a favourite.

Acceptance. I loved the story because it focussed on the importance of accepting the other when your in a relationship. I loved the description of those complex characters, especially the inside beauty of the main characters.
