Too long. Great book but about 1/4 I didn't read because it was filler.

What a waste of money & time. Holy cow what a disappointment. For that crappy ending, you could have cut out about half the book. Between that and all the diatribe about what crappy people we Mississippians are, I'm done with Greg Iles. Huge waste of money

Disappointed. I have enjoyed everything I’ve read by Greg Iles, which is why I chose this book. This was disappointing. To long, to much repetition and characters that could all die and no one would care. Am I supposed to want to read the next book??? Because I don’t.

Natchez Burning. Author knows less about life in Mississippi & La. in 50's,60's&70's than anyone whose writings on the subject I have read. A ridiculous book! James Roy Appleton jr.

Believe. I do read reviews of authors and newspapers listed on books but a part of me wonders if the reviews are due to knowing the author or newspapers reviews due to something else. The review by Steven King will never ever be questioned by me again. Mr. King's review is solid! Period! I couldn't put this book down! Read it and know you will keep coming back to it within hours if not sooner. If you put it down at all. Randy B.

Pretty Good. It was so nice to read a Greg Illes book again! Thought it was a good read with a few caveats. Illes does a superb job of developing his characters in this book. They absolutely jump off the page! I also love the length of the book. Thought I detected a little rust on the flow through the book. I feel like some of his earlier books are better organized and had that "can't put down" effect. I'm hoping to see him one up them as he continues through this series. Overall, a good read. Very ecstatic to have Illes back after the tragedy he suffered in his car accident. Welcome back Greg!

Powerful Southern Tale of Truth and Final Justice. This book brings to life a time in our not-too-distant past about righting our wrongs and accepting our fate. Many things may have been fiction, yet the powerful story of young love and it's costs still exist today. One can only imagine how many Albert Norris and Pooky Wilson's gone long and forgotten over the years. This story makes you wonder just hoe much of southern history we live among today but are completely clueless of the real story. I patiently awake what comes next in this gripping tale as it will unfold.

Disappointed. I'm a huge fan of Greg Isles, but he missed with this one. The plot is way too unbelievable (JFK assassination? Seriously?) and the ending is awful. After really looking forward to this book coming out I feel pretty let down.

Great Story. I read lots of books and this is the best one I have read in two years. It's an exciting story with strong historical ties. I'm going to read another of his books next! Great writer...

Natchez Burning. Could this story be any slower? It is an inch by inch minute by minute telling of the story. I almost never give up on a book—it has been years since I gave up on the last one. I gave up on this one.

Disappointing. The book was too long, with long passages devoted to characters rationalizing their behavior. The ending was rushed, with no resolution as to what happens to a number of important characters.

He's back!. It's great to see Mr. Iles back in the groove. Natchez Burning was a compelling, exciting and informative read. I can't wait for the next installment in the trilogy.

Natchez burning. Read this on my iPhone. When I realized how long it was, I thought I'd be "over it" before I got close to the end. Not so. I loved every moment. Awesome, awesome, awesome.

Fantastic. The story was complex and had many characters - I would not say it was an "easy" read. But, it was well worth it. The book was recommended by a friend so I had no idea what to expect, but after the first couple of chapters, I was literally on the edge of my seat waiting to see who did what.

Disappointed1. Too many characters rediscovering the same information. Pages of people discussing their emotions and feelings. It became a very boring book after a good start. Don’t waste your money.

Keep going. A slow start but then the action starts and you can’t put the book down.

Too long tedious. The worst Greg Iles book written he should have cut himself a southern deal he keeps talking about in his book.... Buried this book at Bone Tree and definitely not dug it up. Ugghhh what waste of time!

Natchez Burning. My first Greg Iles book is a great read. While fiction in the truest form by taking the reader to a place we couldn't go on our own , Iles account of the Deep South in the 60's is truly a historical piece of non fiction. As a teen living in the largest segregated city in the North during the race riots, I felt the anger in the heat of those fires in Detroit and Cleveland. Thanks Mr Iles.

Can't wait for the next one!. The awaited return of Greg Iles and Penn Cage was well worth it. This is the first book in a trilogy and the reason some of the plot was left unresolved. Great plot, great storytelling by Iles! Loved it!

Unaffordable. $53 for an audiobook?

Tired Genre. I am so tired of books that oppress the progress of Mississippi by the continued focus its troubled racial past.

Better than ever. So you think you know Greg Iles. Best read this one. The the gritty "stuff I wish I didn't know" is still present but there is a passion and stamina that feels new to me. It's hard to believe that he was just a young child during this turbulent time about which he writes with such insight and heart.

Natchez Burning. It was a great book, worthy of 5 stars...until it got to the end. Where the heck is the epilogue? Did Mr. Isles get tired or become disinterested, or perhaps the publisher left out the epilogue. After nearly 1100 pages, this books screams to tie up some loose ends. Alan Webber

Lucy. it is good, complex, too many characters to keep up with, and disturbing in its violence. Glad I read it...looking forward to the next two installments.

Trilogy. I think a lot of the negative reviews are based on the ending, which left a lot to be answered. This is book 1 of a trilogy so that should be assumed. I will admit that I wasn't aware it was a trilogy at first as it only notes it in the "also by this author " page. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to part 2.

Excellent. One of the best books I've read this year. Very human characters come alive. People you care about and some you hate. The added dimensions of the town and it's history add a depth that is breathtaking. Started the book yesterday. 150 pages in and I can't put it down.

Excellent. I really couldn't put this book down.. It was long, hard to figure out at times, overly disturbing in its depiction of the cruelness of that time, drawn out and melodramatic with some of its characters, but I was hooked. Totally agree with comments about the ending but that's what it is supposed to be as the first in a series.....lots of loose ends still hanging out there, Hurry up and write the next one.
