Cibola Burn by James S. A. Corey Book Summary

The fourth book in the NYT bestselling Expanse series, Cibola Burn sees the crew of the Rocinante on a new frontier, as the rush to colonize the new planets threatens to outrun law and order and give way to war and chaos. Now a Prime Original series.

HUGO AWARD WINNER FOR BEST SERIES

Enter a new frontier.

"An empty apartment, a missing family, that's creepy. But this is like finding a military base with no one on it. Fighters and tanks idling on the runway with no drivers. This is bad juju. Something wrong happened here. What you should do is tell everyone to leave."

The gates have opened the way to a thousand new worlds and the rush to colonize has begun. Settlers looking for a new life stream out from humanity's home planets. Ilus, the first human colony on this vast new frontier, is being born in blood and fire.

Independent settlers stand against the overwhelming power of a corporate colony ship with only their determination, courage, and the skills learned in the long wars of home. Innocent scientists are slaughtered as they try to survey a new and alien world. The struggle on Ilus threatens to spread all the way back to Earth.

James Holden and the crew of his one small ship are sent to make peace in the midst of war and sense in the midst of chaos. But the more he looks at it, the more Holden thinks the mission was meant to fail.

And the whispers of a dead man remind him that the great galactic civilization that once stood on this land is gone. And that something killed it.

Ending????. I LOVE this series. Love it. But the ending of this one was terrible. Less like a cliffhanger and more like a brick wall -- almost like the last few chapters are missing. The others ended neatly but with some untied ends. This one just ended. Unsatisfactorily. I still love the series, love the characters, loved the backstories in this one. Excellent book, just sad about the ending. It is going to be hard waiting for the next one! Hurry up and write it!!! I'm dying, here!!!

actually has space stuff. unlike the train wreck book three, Melbadon’s Gate, this one actually gets back to the roots of why this story is sci-fi and not just a thinly veiled treatise on one person’s moral struggle of redemption ex machina.

So Excited. I can't wait; I've read the other main installments in the series and I am highly anticipating to see what's beyond the gates

Friggen awesome!. I have never read a book where the characters get into so much trouble! I couldn't put this book down!

Just Awesome. Huge fan of the first three books, but it had been at least a year since I last had read Book: 3. I don't know how they do it, probably it has to do with the new POV's but the beginning gets you caught up to speed with everything without feeling clunky. After that, I just inhaled this book. I read it ravenously and loved every minute. Great book, great series. Read it.

The Expanse Saga Continues Beyond the Gates. In "Cibola Burn" we see the first expansion of humanity beyond the solar system, and of course this does not go smoothy. The rival factions end up taking their conflicts with them to New Terra, a world with long-dead alien ruins, as well as the first alien biosphere humanity has encountered. When things go south, the governments of the solar system send James Holden and his crew to mediate a peace between the unauthorized outer planets colonist and the UN chartered corporate mission. But there are more problems in store than either faction has anticipated. Will the humans set aside their differences to deal with these new threats? I think I enjoyed "Cibola Burn" a bit more than the previous novel, "Abbadon's Gate." In "Cibola Burn" we get an entirely new setting, groups of characters, and new conflicts. We get to see a bit of the ancient alien technology. The crew of the Roci are by now fully developed characters, and their interactions are well defined. They have become almost like old friends to the reader of the series. A worthwhile read!

Excellent Stuff. Read it in two sittings. The series is great and keeps improving with each book. Can’t wait for the next one!

A bit of a let down. I want to know more, but this book is too much of a teaser.... who created the protomolecule and who killed them, this book does not answer, it teases! Yet I’m ready for the next

Wow. Sonofabitch. They did it again. Easily my favorite series ever. They just keep getting better.

Cool. as a lone book in the series it was okay. It added more to the overall series than be a great individual novel.

Worst Book in this Wonderful Series. I was seriously disappointed , every book that I read in this franchise was entertaining, even the novella books. The only thing going on in this story, is Holden and his crew playing peacemakers on a planet, where there is very little action. This is by far the worst title in this series

Great Read. Although the most confusing in the series to date, still a great read and continuation of The Expanse saga.

Weakened characters making bad decisions. This is the third book in the series I have read, and by far the worst. I have skipped so many pages because I could not bear to read the weakness of the characters. This book is trying to be politically correct and failing its readers. In the other books the characters would have blasted the bad guys and asked questions later. In this sad story everyone is given another chance, giving the bad guys the upper hand. I hope the next read is better.

Best sci fi series!. This series just doesn't ever let me down. Great reads every one of them.

Ok running out of ideas?. Not as great as the first 3. Like all the characters and the premise but this one had a tremendous amount of filler action wise and Hooley Dooley wise ! Sort of sad and just skimmed through most of it. Kind of dissapointing.

Cibola Burn. Lets keep this concise: Corey's universe and writing continue to evolve and excel. I gobbled this tasty treat down in a few days.
