Field of Prey by John Sandford Book Summary

#1 New York Times bestselling author John Sandford continues his phenomenal Prey series—and “for those who think they know everything they need to know about Lucas Davenport, [Field of Prey] proves them wrong…” (Huffington Post)

On the night of the fifth of July, in Red Wing, Minnesota, a boy smelled death in a cornfield off an abandoned farm. When the county deputy took a look, he found a body stuffed in a cistern. Then another. And another. By the time Lucas Davenport was called in, it was fifteen and counting, the victims killed over just as many summers, regular as clockwork.

How could this happen in a town so small without anyone noticing? And with the latest victim only two weeks dead, Davenport knows the killer is still at work, still close by. Most likely someone the folks of Red Wing see every day. Won’t they be surprised.

Enjoy. Really good read!

Never disappoints. Another great novel by John Sandford!

Field of prey. Mr. Sanford has written another top notch thriller, One with a particularly satisfying ended.

DLP. Great read. Realistic and interesting. Definitely one of his best. I highly recommend it.

Very Intense. This is a book that I could have read in 24 hours. It was too intense at times, so I gave my. Rain a break. The writing was excellent. SPOILER ALERT: My only issue is the Flowers storyline. Is it continued in another book, or was that the end?

Great. As good as ever, John. Thanks for not selling out like Patterson.

Excellent in Parts. …but not my favorite. Although the "Prey" & Virgil Flowers books are by far my favorites, and I look forward to their relax as soon as I've finished one, I must say there were two aspects of this story that did not surprise me, and that surprises me. (Spoiler ahead) I really couldn't understand why it took so long for Lucas to show people a picture of the man who was mistaken as the killer, to see if they recognized him. From the minute he realized the postal worker was not the killer but must look like him (which is about halfway into the book), I couldn't understand why he didn't use that. I mean as soon as he did, he found the guy in 5 minutes. That whole aspect bothered me. And secondly, while he cleverly tried to hide that Horn was actually dead, once I thought he might be, it became very clear he was. I hate writing anything negative about these books as they are truly my most favorite escape, but this one could have been a little tighter.

It felt like .... ... reading your seventh Alex Cross novel where you just want to get to the twist, only to realize the twist and motives are stupid and entirely unexplained, right before the whole thing peters out in some contrived crescendo. Honestly go read Kiss the Girls, one of Patterson's better entries and a far better version of this tired tale.

Quite possibly Sandford's best. Stunningly good!

OK. Awesome

I enjoy all of Sanford’s books. It’s the cat’s meow. You’ll understand if you read the book.

Fields of Prey Review. I have read every Sanford book that has ever been written, and this is easily one of the best! Definitely the best Prey book in a decade, and my favorite book this year. I LOVED THIS BOOK! More action and twists and turns than ever, and Sanford still writes the best dialogue in the biz. 5 stars

Great ending but difficult to follow. 1st book I read by this author and a great story but extremely difficult to follow the story.

Good book. Great book, as all the Prey books are. Thanks John Sandford.

Captivating. This book is great drawing you in with each word. I didn't put it down until I was finished!!

Field of Prey. Whether it's Lucas or Virgil, John never disappoints. Of course, this left me feeling like I just lost a close friend when I finished the last page. Highly recommended!! And as an avid reader, this recommendation is few and far between. Enjoy!

Right down the middle. This one is pretty much a strike. Hits all the right emotions.. Great read !

Field of Prey. This book was exceptional. I started off being addicted to Lucas Davenport-getting hooked way back when he first met Letty and then Weather. I'm also a Virgil Flowers fan. Read all of those books too. But, I'm in love with Lucas Davenport. Lucas has grown into a man with depth, character and although always engaged with evil will find his family first. I love how Weather "gets him" but holds him to the highest of expectations. And Letty, can't wait to find out what she does next. Keep writing please John!!!!!!

Field of Pray. Unrealistic and sadistic.

Field Of Prey. John Sandford does it again with another 5 star story. I live in Minnesota and just in case you didn't know, there really is a BCA, but it seems Davenport is never in. Neither is that f**king Flowers. Can't wait for the book. Alex W., Hewitt, MN.

Kept me going!. Slow to start but ended with a bang.

Only getting better with age. Every novel is simply better then the last. Fantastic work John. Didn't get up after starting this book, cover to cover in one sitting.

FIELS OF PRAY. Awesome book, one of his best, kept me up at nite, didn't want to PUT DOWN!!

More of the same good stuff. Typical Sandford. By that I mean, great read, well developed story. As the prey series has evolved it's like getting a letter from home. Nice to see familiar characters develop.

Field of Prey. Wow! It's 3:00am...so good!

Excellent. Excellent, excellent, excellent can only give this thumbs up and hoping there is another Prey on the way.

Really good book. I really enjoy the Prey series. Sandford knows how to write the psychological thriller.

Fantastic Read. This is one of the best series books I have read in a long time. Most authors get lazy and rely on cliches or over explain characters. Not here. You get enough to understand what's going on if you're new to the series, but veterans don't need to slog through old material to get to the meat of the story. And that's refreshing. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and made me lose a lot of sleep because I would read into the wee hours of the morning. Bravo, sir. Bravo.

Thrilling. Just a great, great read. I've been hooked on Sandford since his first book. Some are better than others and Lucas is getting old, but so am I.this one jerked me out of my chair after the first ten pages, never saw the twist coming, man, that's three days I'll never get back, but the ending was so incredible I had my dogs worried why tears were streaming down my face while I laughed.... Read it. You'll understand.

Lucas Davenport does it again.. Another "prey" book by John Sanford doesn't disappoint. Evil killer fast pasted excitement.

Best Prey book in years!. Highly recommended... I was actually caught off guard ;)

Disturbing but a page turner. I loved this book. Content was disturbing but I could hardly set it down. I am eager to read more John Sanford.

Field of Prey. Could not put it down! Fabulous !

Not the usual suspects. Sanford has not disappointed in 25 years with Davenport, (now) his adoptive daughter and/or Virgil Flowers (hippie Minnesota fisher-cop). This one brings all the protagonists to bear with multiple story lines and crimes that tie together nicely with an all time twist while (at the same time) introducing a new detective to the lineup. Makes sense as Davenport is getting on with kid in college etc. Really good stuff.

Riveting. One of Sanford's best efforts ever - the characters sizzle and the plot grabs you and doesn't let go, even after the last page is turned. Perfectly paced, beginning to end.

Great story!. This was one of Sanford's best - thoroughly enjoyed it!

Very Entertaining. As always Sanford doesn’t let me down. His books are always entertaining. I really enjoy his books

Field of Prey. Loved it, keep coming up with Lucas Davenport books, even if you need to move the setting to Northern California to include Letty. I was so glad to have Lucas back!

Fabulous book. I have read all the John Sandford books and this was the best. Involved plot, well drawn characters, and Luke Davenport, my hero. Really a wonderful read for folks like me who love mysteries and great writing. Thank you John Sandford for a terrific book. Susan Traub

Great Read. Love Lucas Davenport!

Field of Prey. This may well be SandFords best yet. Taut, smart, horrific, clever. A tour de force by a master writing at the top of his game. SandFord is without question the finest mystery thriller writer of the genre. Buy this book. This read is worth twice the price. Geoff Charles

Field of Prey. Outstanding. I agree with others saying the characters were well developed and real! I also love Davenport for so many reasons. This book took hold and didn't let go until the very end. Suspense and surprises all the way. Been a fan since the very first book. Can't wait until the next Davenport adventure. Thanks, Mr Sanford!

Fields of Prey. No doubt, best of the Prey series. Hooks you from the beginning compelling characters and well written.

Nice Read. Amazing book from John Sandford, it was written in such away that you would never get bored and will be eager to finish the book in one single Go!! Can't wait to read the latest one though.

Great book!. Really a good story with great characters, once started, could not put it down.

Field of Prey. Typical Lucas Davenport. Good story line, mild suspense. Definitely a good read. I read it in two days. Like all John Sanford books this one is hard to put down. Looking forward to seeing more of Mattson. She will make a great new BCA character.

Field of Prey. This is the first Lucas Davenport book I have read. I am a John Stanford fan now. I will continue on the series....I could not put the book down until the end. Very well written. Kept you on the edge.

Winner. I've read all the books in the "Prey" series. This one lives up to the legacy. Another one you just can't put down.

Field of Prey. Davenport never disappoints. I especially liked the closing scenes. I was literally cheering out loud when she beat him to death with the crowbar. Excellent.

Field of Prey. I've read every book Sandford/Camp has written and think this is one of his best! Love that he caught us up on several pheripheral characters we've missed (Sister Mary Joseph, Letty, Del...) and as always the plot kept me engaged from the first sentence to the last. Do yourself a favor and get this book, and then go read all the others too. My favorite author, period.

Another great story. All the good stuff: a really nutsy bad guy with a neat, scary sidekick, who will be great in the movie. A perfect, satisfying cleanup, believable cop talk and fast moving plot. All our favorite characters on the scene or at least accounted for. Definitely five star but getting expensive in Canadian dollars!

Great book, very intense but very enjoyable. I liked the whole book.

Field of prey. I read the book in one day, I honestly couldn't put it down. It is the best Davenport book to date! Now I need a story about Virgil Flowers.
