Too much preaching. I wanted to love this book but the preaching really got to me. It’s almost like the author doesn’t actually like dogs. Because the main character doesn’t seem to like dogs. Although lots of words trying to convince the readers they do. VM Burns does a much much much better job with dogs as characters in her books. If this weren’t about someone who is supposed to love dogs, I’d probably enjoy the book. The writing is well done. The preachiness of the main character on how to best deal with a dog caused me to roll my eyes too many times a third of the way in that I just stopped reading.

Fun read 🐶. Loved it! I'm a dog lover, so I'm picky about dogs in books. This book was great. It's humorous and keeps you guessing until the end, and the dogs don't talk, they're actually, well, dogs! Well written...and hallelujah, not loaded with typos and errors. Nice editing job! Can't wait to get the rest of the series.

Play Dead. I very much enjoyed the story in this book. As a dog mom, I enjoyed reading about the dogs, even though they had only supporting roles to play.

Two Deaths, Many Suspects. Wow... impressive skill by the author to juggle multiple subplots, multiple hostile suspects and several canine participants. Good character development, fast paced and gripping in a rush to a surprise ending. Great read!

Play dead. I loved this story! I'm a dog lover and latch onto any dog book I find! This shows their intelligence, and the ability to train them is made so obvious! Read and enjoy!!

Impressive. This book is impressive! The story has intricate twists and turns. But, it flows beautifully. The characters aren't complex, but the plot is. There's a little humor and a hint of romance buried in the plot, so it has a little of everything. Worth reading!

Play Dead. I LOVE DOGS! This was a wonderful story about the value of training your dog so that both of you can thoroughly enjoy the relationship. There was a bit of fantasy in the radio station and the number of ‘suitors’ but that’s ok because it was really about the dogs anyway. Thank you for writing this. G

Could not put it down. This was an excellent mystery! I had a hard time putting it down!

What a fun read. What happens if you are surrounded by a bunch of jerks and have to figure out which one is the murderer? Luckily, I don’t have to find that out, but the poor main character of this book did. The book was engaging enough to keep my interest, but lighthearted enough to be a perfect escape read.

Play Dead. An easy, relaxed read. Enjoyable.

Disappointing. Play Dead is the first of Leslie O’Kane’s dog-themed mystery series. The mystery solver is dog psychologist Allie Babcock. I do like O’Kane’s sense of humor, and she does a good job of building suspense. She is a good writer. But I didn’t care for the deprecatory way she described an officer, as average-looking with a receding hairline. In a time when we are emphasizing not lookinga at women this way, it is hypocticial and unfeeling to treat men this way. So what if his hair recedes? One day this author’s husband’s hair might do that - or even her own. That was shallow and dsiappointing. I am an avid reader, and I do not like to give poor ratings, but I must be honest. I do not recommend this book, and naturally, I will not be reading any more of hers.

Sorry. I just couldn't finish this book. Got too convoluted and too many characters. I love a good dog story, but this one didn't cut it.

Would never download. I could not get this book - or any books on this site - to download. I tried multiple times. I use all Apple equipment.

Sort of a Blah Book. This book wasn’t terribly bad, but it wasn’t amazingly good either. This woman dog psychologist gets peripherally involved in two murders and she doesn’t actually do any sleuthing or detective work or critical analysis. She just wanders around suspecting everyone and whining incessantly about being short until she stumbles blindly across the murderer. Just meh...

Play Dead. It was hard to figure out who the perpetrator was so that kept it hard to put the book down. I love dogs so it was what made me want to read it in the first place. Good book.

Excellent. Totally enjoyed this book. If you enjoy stories where animals are involved, then you will enjoy this one. It’s full of great characters, drama and a bit of romance. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
