The Good Girl by Mary Kubica Book Summary

Read the bestseller everyone is talking about!

"A cleverly constructed suspense thriller." —Chicago Tribune, Printer's Row

"A twisty, roller coaster ride of a debut. Fans of Gone Girl will embrace this equally evocative tale." —Lisa Gardner, #1 New York Times bestselling author

"Riveting psychological thriller."—Lisa Scottoline, New York Times bestselling author on Don't You Cry

"I've been following her for the past few days. I know where she buys her groceries, where she has her dry cleaning done, where she works. I don't know the color of her eyes or what they look like when she's scared. But I will."

One night, Mia Dennett enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn't show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. At first Colin Thatcher seems like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia's life.

When Colin decides to hide Mia in a secluded cabin in rural Minnesota instead of delivering her to his employers, Mia's mother, Eve, and detective Gabe Hoffman will stop at nothing to find them. But no one could have predicted the emotional entanglements that eventually cause this family's world to shatter.

An addictively suspenseful and tautly written thriller, The Good Girl is a propulsive debut that reveals how even in the perfect family, nothing is as it seems.

Suspenseful. Liked it a lot but that last revelation was too much.

Don’t include characters of color if you will villainize them. I liked it I guess. But it was difficult to read past some things like the way people of color are portrayed. I don’t have a problem with the antagonist being a big black man but if all your characters of color are criminals who kidnapped an innocent blood woman. It just doesn’t sit right with me. This was awful. Just terrible

The first book that ever made me cry!. What a thoroughly well written book. Full of surprises right until the very end. What a great delve into two complex characters that aren’t as different as they first seem. Brilliant.

Great twist!. Great twist ending!

The Good Girl. Excellent! Quite a page turner! I couldn't put it down...

Amazing. MK at her best. A phenomenal read.

Great read!. Couldn’t stop reading!

Loved it. Didn’t think I’d like the back and forth of the storyline but it got me intrigued.

Amazing. I loved this book. Very well written and very good ending. So hard to put down.

Page Turner. This book really kept me in suspense right up to the final page. It had a little of everything, intrigue, romance, nostalgia, hopefulness and reality. Well worth reading.

Loved it!. Sooo good!!! Loved the ending, what a twist!!

Probably my favorite novel. If there was ever a book I would love to read all over again without knowing the ending it would be this one. I loved it so much.

A bizarre reading experience. I wanted to love this book. I sooooo did. The cover and the mysterious premise both drew me to it. The story itself, though, wasn't what I expected. The plot was predictable and I figured out how it would all play out pretty early on. That's not so bad, though. I predict things all the time and I could be right or I could be wrong. Usually, I don't care which it is, as long as the ride to getting to 'right' or 'wrong' is engaging and entertaining. With this book that wasn't the case. The multiple POV's were fine (love books with these, actually), but the timeline jumping didn't translate as well as I think the author thought/hoped it would. If anything it detracted from the story and made for a jilting, bizarre reading experience. I finished the book out of a sense of commitment. Not for any other reasons.

Amazing. Pulsar put it down. Finished it in about 12 hours.

Kkkk. Awesome is all I can say

Amazing. Was reallllllly good 😋

Review. Interesting plot but a little slow at times. Easy read though! I enjoy the author’s writing style.

Awesomeness!. I really loved the way this book moved; past and present, but easy to maneuver. Such a different tale. A strange love story and the most amazing twist! Kudos to our author for keeping us entertained and on our toes until the last word, quite literally. I wish I could read it again!

Predictable. I found this book hard to stick with at times. I felt like it got a bit long and drawn out. There's a lot of flash forwards and backwards and it started to seem like a poor attempt to replicate the genius that is Gone Girl. The "surprise ending" was far from a surprise. It was completely predictable. Overall by the time I was finished I was sorry I had stuck it out.

The good girl. Would've liked to see Mia developed more. This book left me sad, but I really enjoyed it. Amazing how writing and getting inside a characters head can change the way you feel about them in the course of a novel! Definitely recommend.

Couldn’t put it down. Excellent.

Awful. An extremely boring and pointless read. The characters are flat and unremarkable. You’d think that men only care about sex and guns from the way they’re written in this book. The plot twists can be seen from a mile away, this is coming from someone who rarely ever anticipates twists. Don’t waste your money or time.

Not disappointed. I thought it was a great read and ending tugged a heart sing

I could not put it down!. This is definitely one of my favorite reads. I finished it last week and I can't stop thinking about the ending! You must read it!!!

Azgirl. Good book to read.

Great read!. I enjoy the author’s writing style. She keeps you on the hook but it doesn’t feel like it drags on. I thought I had it figured out early on, (I was partly correct) until the very end!Probably my favorite by her thus far. On to her next one now!

Less thrilling than paint drying. This book is nothing like Gone Girl! There was no suspense no thrills absolutely nothing! I kept reading just hoping for some excitement but it never developed. Don’t waste your time or money, this book is a boring account of day to day occurrences in the characters lives. Very boring

Love. One of the best books I’ve read in a while!

Couldn’t put it down. I enjoyed reading from the different character’s perspectives Before and After, while knowing somewhat of what was happening in the middle.

Great book.. Excellent! I couldn’t put it down. I really felt pulled in to the characters.

Absolutely mind boggling!!. This book was entertaining from the beginning, but if you read ALL the way through, your mind will be BLOWN. Instantly became a favorite. Highly recommend!!

LOVE IT!. It's so hard to find a good book these days, but this one went above and beyond. It was so great, I finished it in one day!

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. Great book!!! Good for fans of Gone Girl or Fresh!

Sooooo a good!. I woke up in the middle of the night to keep reading. One of the best books this year!

Excellent. Kept me engaged. Loved the ending.

A must read. You read from the perspective of three characters. Sometimes this becomes confusing, but not in this book. I loved getting to know them through their thoughts, experiences, and feelings. I read in a day. I had to know what happened!!!

Slow and slightly boring. I love Mary Kubicas work but this just didn’t do it for me there wasn’t a major thrill at any point and it just felt as though it dragged on for much longer than it needed to.

Amazing!. Such a great book!!! Highly recommended it, suspenseful, interesting, and I loved the ending!

My top read of 2015. Wow! I just finished the entire book and I'm sad it's over. From start to finish it was an absolutely wonderful read. I loved it. A must read.

Good Plot Twist. Good plot twist but the chapter headings and the back and forth was annoying.

So goos. I really loved this book. The back and forth from different characters, the telling of the story from the past and future. She did a great job giving each of the characters their own voice. I really enjoyed this story and the little twist at the end.

Crazy twist!. Keeps you at the edge of your seat, falling in love with “the bad guy,” and the twist at the ends seals the deal for this to be a great read.

With limited options in life it's good to create your own. The Good Girl was about Mia Dennett who was abducted. Detective Gabe Hoffman was assigned to investigate her abduction. The story centered around Mia's abduction while spooling together private personal information about Mia and Colin. Detective Hoffman was a great detective. Not only did he investigate with virtually no leads but he was able to unite people in an unexpected way. Gabe was a thoughtful and sincere man whose number one goal was to bring Mia home. Eve and Gabe were a team working side by side dissecting anything and everything related to Mia. Teaching is what Mia always wanted to do. She became an art teacher at a high school for high school dropouts. Mia moved away from home at eighteen not far from her place of employment. She visited home on the holidays limiting her conversations to a few times a year. She wasn't close to her parents. Mia was an independent teenager. In her teenage years Mia rebelled making a few bad choices along the way that James erased from her record. Mia was defiant, outspoken, and forthright. Everything James despised. Grace was Mia's older sister. James their father doted on her since Grace chose to become a lawyer. Eve was Mia and Grace's mother. She was a trophy wife who made sure James image was beautifully intact. Eve was quiet, polite, and submissive. James was a high profile judge who had a very public and political life. His life was about maintaining a professional upscale image to go along with his wealthy upbringing. James always brushed Mia's indiscretions under the rug to protect his image. James always worried about his reputation. James came from old money. Colin was a desperate man who grew up poor with limited options. He took care of his mother while trying to stay out of trouble. Normally a before and after timeline would frustrate and confuse me, yet I found the timeline was a great connector for transitioning the past with the present. They were locked together like a puzzle. For every chapter of information given about the past, the present was living right along side them simultaneously living the same timeline. The author did an amazing job molding these characters lives. The story was captivating and written well. The depiction of emotions was what kept me entranced in the story. The subtle disclosure of facts helped develop the characters while showing intent as well.

Great Read!. Best book I’ve read in a while!

Great read. I loved this book, read it in 2 days

The Good Girl. This was very good reading. I didn't want to put it down once I got a few pages in. Well written and worth reading.

Wanted to like this. Seemed like a good choice, sort of dragged on and not the best ending.

Huge plot twist.. It’s a really captivating story. This is one of the few books that I would do anything to be able to read for the first time again. Definitely going to buy the actual book so I can add to my collection. It’s worth the read, absolutely worth it.

Over development. One of those authors who is more interested in developing her characters than the story.

Sorry I wasted my time reading this. One star is generous. The author is clearly a novice who fails to put her idea for the story into words that make a believable plot. And on top of that, it’s racist and filled with stereotypes and an anti-abortion message. This book is the opposite of sophisticated writing.

Excellent!. Hooked me from the start, I couldn't put it down and for the first time in a long time, I didn't see the end coming!

A great read. At first I was worried it would be difficult to follow the story with jumping back and forth in time, but that was fine. And the ending was very satisfying. Great first book!

Great story. Love the ending, what a twist!!!

The Good Girl. Twisted, in depth characters with a story line that is unpredictable! Enjoyed this read to the very end! Comparable with the best selling "Gone Girl"!
