Drab copy of Harry Potter. I loved the mortal instruments but I just couldn't get into this one. 2 boys and 1 girl in a school for magic and "the chosen one", sound familiar? Enemy of death, death eater? Very forced and not original, characters not relatable.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I have the paperback and I absolutely loved it. I finished it in two days, without reading at school.. I defiantly recommend this book to all readers!👑💜

Omg. This is my FAVORITE series right next to Percy Jackson and the maze runner. I can't wait to read the next one called The copper gauntlet.

A thrilling coming-of-age story. (NO SPOILERS!!!). A beautiful twist on your average fantasy. Perfect for children of ages alike! Lovely characters anyone can enjoy reading about, and I love that the characters progress along with the plot—just WONDERFUL!!! This is NOT a Harry Potter rip off!. Yes, I’m talking to you, multiple reviewers who thought it was like a sad version of Harry Potter (so untrue)! Although I must admit it has many similar general aspects, there are many unique twists and turns with the overarching plot between all the books. The characters aren’t as relatable mostly because the authors wanted to move away from the classic fairytale black and white hero and villain stereotypes. The authors were bold and creative in the whole series with a strange and unique look on living up to expectations, vs seeking what you want to do and finding your identity. Being big fans of Cassandra Clare and Holly Black, I loved the much more kid friendly series. Now why are you still here! Go read it!

favorite book series. used to love this series in middle school it was great from the first to last book

Meh. It's alright a bit forced and while I have a history with one of the authors I do see the potential here. Hopefully the rest of the Pentalogy will do better.

Copy of Harry Potter. Don't bother reading this book. It is such a copy of Harry Potter. Call has a leg injury like Harry's scar, the villain especially wants to kill the main character, and the whole two boys one girl thing? I find it hard to believe that it ever got published. Listen to me and don't waste your time.

Nice book. I really liked this book. Although a lot of people say that it is a copy of Harry Potter it isn't. Although it does have the whole two boys and one girl thing and the main bad guy would like nothing more than to kill the main character. Every one is using this as an excuse to hate on the book. In my opinion the book is different in its own way and it has its own storyline that is so much more different than most of the other magic books out there.

Absolutely capturing. This is a great good and a great series! It has a very good storyline and many shocking twisters, keeping you engaged and exited the whole way through.

Best book I’ve ever read. Normally, it’s a tough choice for a favorite book. This book beats them by a landslide. I laugh out loud on every page. I started reading in 6th grade and I still go back and re-read it in high school.

Don't give the authors ideas. If you make Celia the spy I'm going to be soooooooooooooooo soooooo mad Oh and this book is awesome

Harry Potter. A lot of people say that it’s like Harry Potter. I can see that but it’s definitely different. And I’ve read the Harry Potter books 7 times each. Stop hating on this book it’s really good. Read it crazy twist great characters too.

Awesome book!!!. You might wonder from the title why I gave this 4/5. The only reason why is because in my opinion the story moved a little slow at the beginning/middle. The ending was great! Looking forward to #2

An Amazing, Fun book. I love all of Cassandra Clare's books and I have read almost all of her books. This book is no exemption it is absolutely amazing! It was well written and had just the perfect balance of of si-fi, fantasy,drama, and adventure!

Brilliant.. It's the next best thing since Harry Potter. Just when you think you have it figured out, they surprise you. Definitely worth reading.

Great!. I bought the book after seeing the AMAZING cover and enjoyed it very much. The plot is wonderful, in my opinion. I absolutely ADORE the characters and their individual stories. One of the best books I've read. I'm very into the magic thing. QUEEN SLAY! I would recommend this book to many people. I even did my Summer Reading project on it. So excited for the rest of the series. (Oh, and I've bought The Copper Gauntlet too!)

Awesome. This book is awesome I got it today and I am staying up all night to read it it has lots of exiting parts with just enough adult content to make it still in the kids I'd say young adult and the genre would be fantasy adventure 😃 this book is awesome

Title. I really liked the concept of this series and the way it was set up. It was awesome to have the perspective of a character who you think is the protagonist but to have it be the antagonist!
