Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul Review. The Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul is the ninth book in Diary of a Wimpy Kid Series. It is about the typical life of a middle schooler (Greg Heffley). This series especially appears to reluctant readers. In this particular book, Greg's family decides to go on a vacation, which turns out to be a disaster. The Wimpy Kid Books are chock full of illustrations that enhance the story significantly. Most books like this are for girls, so I am glad there is this series. Pros for Parents: -In the book, Greg's Mom tells him the whole point of the vacation is to have quality family time. -Great for kids on the spectrum, lots of illustrations. -The book is designed very well, as is the case with the other books in the series. -The book has well-spaced paragraphs, which make it easier to read. -Even though the vacation became a disaster, Greg's family still had time together. -Greg's Mom tries to turn the time in the car into a learning experience. Cons for Parents: -Greg doesn't want to go on vacation, even though it is probably good for him. -Greg's older brother (Rodrick) plays a joke on Greg, where Greg holds a sign that says, "I'm not waring a bathing suit." while in a pool. -Rodrick tricks Greg into sitting in the back of the van and likes to prank him. -Greg isn't a good role model and is lazy and takes advantage of people. The cons didn't deter me from reading the entire series because of the overall quality and humor. It seems like this book, in particular, didn't have as much work put into it as the others did. So I wouldn't recommend it. I'd say the readers suggested age would be 9-13.
