To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee Book Summary

Voted America's Best-Loved Novel in PBS's The Great American Read

Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterwork of honor and injustice in the deep South—and the heroism of one man in the face of blind and violent hatred

One of the most cherished stories of all time, To Kill a Mockingbird has been translated into more than forty languages, sold more than forty million copies worldwide, served as the basis for an enormously popular motion picture, and was voted one of the best novels of the twentieth century by librarians across the country. A gripping, heart-wrenching, and wholly remarkable tale of coming-of-age in a South poisoned by virulent prejudice, it views a world of great beauty and savage inequities through the eyes of a young girl, as her father—a crusading local lawyer—risks everything to defend a black man unjustly accused of a terrible crime.

Amazing!!!. This book is so good. Even with the amount of language; it gives it more of a story. This book is a must read.

Didn’t really like it as much as people said but…. I thought it was still a good book

To Kill a Mockingbird-14 yr old perspective. I have never had a book hit me as hard emotionally as To Kill a Mockingbird. This book challenges your mind with countless hidden messages and the many political issues facing the reader. I have never been this emotionally impacted by a novel, and I encourage everyone to read it.

Eh. It’s fine, but not “classic" material

Great amazing. I couldn’t stop reading this book at the end. It says a lot about humans and people and it is amazing.

Great book. Those who rated this book poorly do not understand the historical context of this book. A truly revolutionary book for its time, 5 stars.

Such a great work. Boo is such an unforgettable character. That was my mom’s nickname for me for the longest time… this book makes me miss her a lot. I love you Mommy!

Yay. I like it

An amazing book worth reading!. Ignore bad reviews and if you haven’t read the book then buy the book and read it for yourself. I finished reading it today and glad I did.

Loved Every Word. I’d never read this book and so glad I finally did. The characters came to vivid life and so much to learn from the child’s mind. Beautiful yet sad funny and a book that will be added to my favorites of all time.

Boring. Will it’s just not intending at all, but some people do. But to me it’s a boring book. Also most of the kids in middle school and high school hate this book. The book is just so dry and boring. Just don’t ever start the because you will never finish it.

Best Novel I’ve ever read. A classic from the late 50s

As good as when I first read it!!. Classic! So glad to read it again years later!

Great book. As I was assigned this book as an English project I grew to love the book. Although I feel that boo Radly come to them from no where. Other wise great book

Boring. Parents make me read this during the summer, the first 5 chapters were boring so then i said i would read to chapter 10 and that if it didnt get better by chapter 10 i would quit. Guess what? I have no idea what happens after chapter 10

Trump potato. Why u bully mockingbirds

I loved this book. This was a great book and I can see why they call it a classic I loved it so much!

I Never Wanted it to End. I cried when I finished it. That's all that needs to be said.

Beautiful. First of all, let's forget it's a 'classic' that we all 'must' read.

A bit slow but happy. 8/10

Yummy. Great book

One of my favorites. A real classic. The prose is beautiful, and you feel as you were there with the characters.

The all-time classic. What is there to say, except Thank You, Harper Lee.

A glimpse of Southern history. It may be fiction but all the circumstances feel real. A glimpse of the south in the 1930s.Scout is a feisty heroine who notices all and her family is sympathetic as well as powerful in Maycomb.Tense and sensitive end.

To Kill a Mockingbird. A very good book to start and never put down until the last word, that’s what I did. I saw the movie years ago but it paled in comparison to the novel itself.

To Kill a Mockingbird. Great book! Haven’t read this since high school and my understanding at 30 years old Vs 18 is way different t.

erm... a white woman writing the n word is crazzzyyy

Great book, must read. Really good book, would definitely recommend as this book is basically a classic.

Yummy. Good book

To Kill A Mockingbird. a true classic! I loved this book!

Remarkable. This book taught me so much. The characters are full of depth and the storyline is incredible.

Try a read. Good book for starting out

Favorite. One of my favorite books of all time and love the movie just as much!

Beautiful. A master class of writing.

Why is it banned?. Most inspiring! At almost 70 I finally picked up this book to read. Incredible the way Ms. Harper was able to hold a mirror up to my face so I would have to look inside myself.

A Masterpiece. This is one of the best books I’ve ever read. My friend let me borrow her copy, and I was hooked. The majority of the book gives off a calm, summery feeling that you got as a child whenever school ended for the year. Many of the characters are likable, the plot line is intriguing, and the writing is beautiful.

This Book is A Living Hype Train!. As many high school kids probably have, I got this book assigned for my English class. I had heard of this book a couple of times, and many have stated that it was one of their all-time favorite books and an instant classic. And I could not be happier to say that I 100% agree with them! Originally, I thought I was going to easily lose interest in this book, as many kids my age do. Call me an old soul, but this book easily is in my top three favorites of all time and I plowed through it in about two weeks! This was definitely the best school book assigned to me that I have ever read! I loved it so much that I even got my own personal copy so I could read it over and over again! You won’t regret it.

Amazing Title. I’m never really into reading but once I bought this Book it was actually really good. The Person who read this book was really good and this is how audio books should be read. CEO, Dakota Roehrig

A True Classic. Put putting off reading this book for years. So glad I finally got around to it.

VERY HELPFUL. the mocking birds didn't stand a chance!

Boring. Was forced to read it for school over summer brake. Hated every minute of it as I already could see the ending coming.

a book everyone should read. this book is read all the time across the US for a reason. it’s an amazing book with meaningful themes of what it’s like to be a colored person & fighting for what’s right !!

Kinda boring. Don’t waste ur time

Just The Sample. I just read about 10 pages in to the sample, amazing book, 10/10, amazing, definitely recommend

i love it. idk why people are saying this is boring, this is one of the few classics i read that isn’t boring. super adorable but also serious at some parts. great book, i get the hype.

To kill a mockingbird. This is a hardy 7th grade book. Also a good book two read in your spare time.

It’s bad. People who like this book are boomers

Very well written. It’s a classic and I can definitely see why. It’s a very well written book and the characters have depth and were written with care. The ending was definitely my favorite part as Scout got what she wanted.

To Kill A Mockingbird. Great book the ending really sealed it for me

Had to read it but don’t regret it. I had to read this book for my English class. It has a slow start but I throughly enjoyed it.

A true classic. My L.A teacher made us read this book and I had always heard about this book so when I started to read it I was surprised how much I liked it. I recommend this book to anyone over the age of 10

Amazing. I loved this book. It’s the story of racism, brutality and more told from the perspective of a young child. This is a book that makes you think, ponder. I highly recommend this book to everyone. (above the age of 13)
