Physicist Scarlett Stone is the daughter of the most notorious Russian spy in FBI history. With her father dying in prison, time is running out. Using a false identity, she gains access to the Russian ambassador's Christmas party, searching for evidence to prove her father's innocence.

Former Navy SEAL, now FBI Special Agent, Matt Lazlo, is instantly attracted to Scarlett but when he discovers she lied to him about her identity, he hunts her down with the ruthless efficiency he usually reserves for serial killers.

Not only does Scarlett's scheme fail, it puts her in the sights of people who reward unwanted curiosity with brutality. The FBI—and Matt—aren't thrilled with her, either. As the agents involved in her father's investigation start dying, and the attempts to stop Scarlett intensify, Matt and his colleagues begin to wonder. Could they have a traitor in their midst?

Cold Light of Day. “Cold Light of Day” is a story of loyalty to friends, self-confidence, justice, corrupt politics, betrayal, manipulation, and a daughter’s love for her father. Toni Anderson’s readers see her pull out all the stops as she writes the story of scientist Scarlet Stone seeking to prove her father’s innocence for a crime he did not commit. Twenty years earlier her father was tried and convicted for being a Russian spy. Each of Anderson’s Cold Justice series features new protagonists in each new story “Cold Light of Day – Book 3”, as well as working characters from earlier books in her story. In “Cold Light of Day” readers meet new protagonists, Scarlet Stone and FBI Agent Matt Lazio, who meet at a Christmas Party at the Russian Embassy. Lazio is attending in the place of his boss and Scarlet is attending with her best friend April LeMay, pretending to be LeMay’s sister. Scarlet has another reason for attending the embassy party. Scarlet wants to plant a bug in the Russian Ambassadors office. She was hoping to record the Russian Ambassador saying something incriminating that will help her prove her father’s innocence before he dies of cancer. While attempting to plant a bug she discovers someone else’s bug and does not know she has been filmed by both the FBI and the Embassy surveillance cameras. Soon after Scarlet is caught on tape in the Russian Ambassador’s office her friend April is kidnaped and powerful people start hunting Scarlet to stop her pursuit of her father’s innocence. Agent Lazio pursues Scarlet at first because he thinks she is a criminal and after saving her life twice begins to listen to what Scarlet is saying about her father being framed. If Scarlet’s father is innocent, Lazio and his boss need to find the traitor among them. The story unfolds with the return of Agent Roony and Alex Parker to help find the traitor. As their investigation continues, someone is murdering those involved in convicting Scarlet’s father. It seems someone wants to stop Scarlet’s efforts to prove her father’s innocence. After attempts on Scarlet’s life, Lazio is sure the Russian ambassador is working with other powerful people trying stop the investigation. “Cold Light of Day” transitions back and forth between Scarlet and the FBI’s activities and the activity of those hunting them. The fast moving story unfolds with suspense and thrills at every turn. Anderson creates intense moments in her mystery romance. Readers are kept in the dark about who the real spy is and how he went undetected for almost two decades. Readers embrace the growth in Anderson’s characters and the romance between Agent Matt Lazio and Scarlet Stone. You will have to follow the leads and clues Scarlet’s father put in his notes to find out how this mystery is solved. The story is one of Anderson’s best and “Cold Light of Day” is a must read and earns a 5 star ranking.

Plenty of espionage makes up this latest in the Cold Justice series.. Plenty of espionage makes up this latest in the Cold Justice series. Each of these book are so full of acts of betrayal and death not only from who you’d consider bad guys – in this book it’s the Russians – but also from our own government in some form. I love the way the author sets it up at the beginning where we know clearly who some of the bad guys are but yet takes us through many twist and turns before we find out who all the players are. The story starts with a daughter trying to prove that her exFBI father was not a traitor to his country by being a Russian spy. Scarlett knew her father could never have done all the horrible things he was accused of 14 years ago. Now that he’s dying of cancer in prison she wants to try and prove he didn’t do it. Problem is Scarlett is a Physicist not a spy and ends up getting herself caught which not only puts her life in danger but also opens up a huge can of worms that has far reaching consequences. All of the previous FBI agents we’ve met over the course of this series are back with Agent Matt Lazlo being the one that takes it upon his self to keep Scarlett out of danger. These two were really opposites but the attraction was there from the start and worked well. At the end of each of these books my longing for getting FBI ASAC Lincoln Frazer’s books increases. Hopefully the author will put me out of my misery soon.

Love this author and this book. I am a big fan of really well written romantic suspense and Toni Anderson is one of the best authors writing today in this genre. Her books always include intricately created suspense, strong women and heroes with well rounded characters accompanying their muscles. There is just the right amount of jeopardy, sizzle and humour and every aspect is meticulously researched. I can’t recommend Toni Anderson’s books highly enough if you enjoy romantic suspense and we beautiful written yarn.

Perhaps bugging the Russian Embassy wasn’t a good idea.. Book 3 in this series is again more Suspense than Romance but the romance is there. Scarlet has to move fast, her dad was accused of espionage 14 years ago and now has cancer. Time to prove his innocence that other FBI agents and someone within the Russian Embassy set him up. Lucky for her, her best friend Angel’s parents were invited to a Christmas Eve party at the Embassy. Pretending to be Angel’s sister they attend the party. They meet FBI agent Matt Lazlo and they are smitten. Scarlet sneaks away to plant a bug but...there is already a bug in the lamp she picks up. Oops. Matt is called into work and witnesses the bug planting and discovers who Scarlet is and her traitorous father. But Angel is kidnapped and Parker, Rooney, Fraser and even Matt think there is something foul here. Again, fast paced, recurring characters, secrets that will inevitably roll over into the next book. And I am off to book 4.

Really goofy. Giving it one star to try to outweigh the good reviews. I get it’s fiction but at least make an attempt to be realistic. The characters have virtually no time at all together and somehow in a matter of hours we can tell they are supposed to somehow have all these deep feelings for one another. The dialogue that takes place in the middle of action sequences or when there is a lot of serious stuff happening is laughable... Scarlett second guessing not telling Matt she loves him when she called him in the middle of a very serious ops mission. Or Scarlett & Angel running/being shot at and talking about whose fault it is and how next year they’ll do something safer for Christmas like watch movies? What?! First and last time reading this author. HUGE eye roll for this entire book.

Cold Light of Day. I’ve given books 1 - 3 long raving reviews but I won’t take this time on this book. I rate this series at a 20 out of a 10 from the books I’ve read so far. Read book 4 out of order so I’m starting Book 5...now! Do yourself a favor....read this series!
