Hidden Bodies Book Summary

THE RIVETING SEQUEL TO THE HIT BOOK YOU, NOW A NETFLIX SERIES

“Kepnes hits the mark, cuts deep, and twists the knife.” —Entertainment Weekly

“Delicious and insane...The plot may be twisty and scintillating, but its Kepnes’s wit and style that keep you coming back.” —Lena Dunham

“Hypnotic and scary.” —Stephen King

“Obsessed.” —Jessica Knoll, New York Times bestselling author of Luckiest Girl Alive

In the compulsively readable sequel to her widely acclaimed debut novel, You, Caroline Kepnes weaves a tale that Booklist calls “the love child of Holden Caulfield and Patrick Bateman.”

Joe Goldberg is no stranger to hiding bodies. In the past ten years, this thirty-something has buried four of them, collateral damage in his quest for love. Now he’s heading west to Los Angeles, the city of second chances, determined to put his past behind him.

In Hollywood, Joe blends in effortlessly with the other young upstarts. He eats guac, works in a bookstore, and flirts with a journalist neighbor. But while others seem fixated on their own reflections, Joe can’t stop looking over his shoulder. The problem with hidden bodies is that they don’t always stay that way. They re-emerge, like dark thoughts, multiplying and threatening to destroy what Joe wants most: true love. And when he finds it in a darkened room in Soho House, he’s more desperate than ever to keep his secrets buried. He doesn’t want to hurt his new girlfriend—he wants to be with her forever. But if she ever finds out what he’s done, he may not have a choice…

Hidden Bodies - Caroline Kepnes Book Reviews

  • Wow! (Meem1519)

What a writer! I love the narrative of this book. Amazing how the author normalizes Joe, and has me rooting for the bad guy.
  • Not good! Rambles on (Miracle467)

The first book was good this one sounds like a manic person just rambling on and there is no ending, there's no closure. What a waste of my f**king time.
  • Hidden Bodies (FrauEG)

Meh. This one felt like it was a rushed attempt to capitalize on the success of You. It was sloppy and completely overwhelmed by lucky breaks for the story's protagonist. What made You so engaging was the voice that carried the disturbing tale. This voice was significantly weaker in Hidden Bodies, I suspect because the plot was poorly constructed. I found the conclusion a huge disappointment. How fortunate for Joe Goldberg that every cop on the planet is a total idiot. Also completely lucky that a mug of urine went undetected for a year in a mansion stocked with staff to keep it ship-shape. Love was a fluff character and super annoying (and unbelievable). The murders were unoriginal (and unnecessary). Her first book really did impress me, but this one was low-grade enough that I won't seek out any of her subsequent work.
  • Huge disappointment (Holli1215)

I really liked "You" so I was excited that there was a sequel. Hidden Bodies started off slow and continued to be.....slow.....pretty much the entire book. And it's not a short book. I only finished reading it because I wanted to know what happened at the end. Not sure how it got so many good reviews because it was such a let down compared to the first.
  • I want more ! (beachbaby8686)

Hoping there will be a third book in this series. I want to know what happens to Joe. I loved both You and Hidden Bodies. Both are page turners until the last page.
  • Hidden Bodies (AHC1234)

    Great book!
  • Lightning does strike twice—not to be missed! (cob1331)

Apparently lightning does strike twice. Caroline Kepnes managed to craft another creepy, shocking, hilarious, and absolutely addictive read. Right off the bat we’re thrown into the middle of Joe’s next chapter. Impressively we’re hit with a major plot twist and almost immediately taken cross country to sunny SoCal. Just when you think you’ve got Joe and his next move all figured out, Kepnes throws you another curve ball. I seriously did not see that ending coming. HIDDEN BODIES is NOT to be missed!
  • Hidden Bodies gives me a book hangover (Amy_Nichole)

This is the follow up to "You" by Caroline Kepnes. We pick right back up where we left off with Joe Goldberg and his seemingly normal life. Without giving anything away, just read this book!! It is haunting, creepy and excellent! I think I need to read it again.
