A Work in Progress by Staci Stallings Book Summary

Rebecca Avery has never been one of “them”—the popular kids, the beautiful people. With less than fashion-plate looks and an off-beat, quirky style to living life, she has been relegated to finding “alone” activities to fill her time throughout high school. Unfortunately, college hasn’t changed that. Then she meets Eric Barnett, a nice guy who seems a little quirky himself. The only problem is, he’s in love with her roommate—one of the truly beautiful people. When Rebecca finds herself falling for him, she must find a way to break out of her shell or risk losing him forever. Who will win out in this mixed up jumble of feelings and loyalties?

Eric Barnett is drifting through college. Unlike his friends, he doesn’t have a path to relentlessly pursue. In fact, he often feels like the tag-along in a life that’s unfolding without him. Then he meets Rebecca Avery’s roommate who seems like she will finally give him what he most wants—credibility with his friends. However, when the roommate proves to be less-than-into-him, can Eric see past the outward appearance to find love with Rebecca?

A Work in Progress. Awesome! Uplifting! I highly recommend this book!

Religious. So... It was hard to read from the beginning because of the writing flaws. Switching from one scene to another without so much as a pause was difficult to correlate to the story. But I am a die hard reader and loved that the book was so long, so I stuck with it. I was ever curious to find the result. Over half way through of my over 8,000 pages on my phone, it turned into a hard core religious novel. I went back to the store to check the description. It said "Contemporary". Not "religious". I thought, ok, maybe there's more. But it just became more of a bible lesson than anything. The worst part is the type of Christianity it portrays. Ugly, jealous, dull girls can get the man of their dreams if they turn to HIM. Wow. If you want to write a book about your personal religious beliefs, by all means do so. But don't try to categorize it as something that it's not and shove your religion down other people's throats. The things that you wrote here you obviously think are ok... That's not what Christianity is at all. You may have a concept, but you have a lot to learn. I'll PRAY for you. I hope this book at least served your purpose in some way or another. Maybe there are some downtrodden people that think if they are dishonest and meek, they will have their will if they relent to your religious views. Thanks for wasting hours of my life.

A must read!. I loved this book! I couldn't put it down after I started reading it. Wish it would of continued on longer! A good love story!

A work in Progress. Young love is so messy and emotional. I heard myself saying, “Oh grow up!” But that’s what they were trying to do. The best part were the gospel words told by Emma and the first Bible study group to the new believers. What a joy to hear about their surprise when the Holy Spirit would give them words to say. Great story. Ya did good girl! G

A Work In Progress. Good writing & references. And thank you for keeping it clean. Today it seems some of the writers think they have to use nasty words and explain in detail about the situations. THANK YOU AGAIN, JK

Work in progress. This was a really nice story. Touches the heart strings. Makes you think about your life and what's missing. My walk with our Heavenly Father. This was my 1st book by her and I am getting the next one.

LOVED IT!. Love, love, loved it! A truly great book! I'll admit, there where times where it dragged on a little, but I still enjoyed reading this! Can't wait for the next book!

Page-Turner. I loved this book completely. I had to stop myself from finishing all one night. Love how the different perspective added to every story that was told. Emily was a good example on how we should be to people and show God's love through us. Honestly love this book.

Truly amazing.. Since the first page I was captivated. At times it felt scary how much I related to Rebecca. It was beautifully written and it felt so real. I found my self crying a lot of times throughout the book. I definitely recommend it to anyone who feels that they haven't found who they are and are struggling to figure life out. We all have been there at some point, but have to realize that God is always there for you. Thank you for this story, it really helped a lot and I enjoyed it throughly. Looking forward to read more books from this author.

A work in progress- Good book. I liked the book. It was clean and a good read but wished they acknowledged Our Heavenly Father too. It was a real life book. Containing real life struggles and characters. Which is good. But I really did enjoy reading it. Over all a good book. Would recommend it to 16 or 17 up.

A work in progress. Very good book . Great read !!!

A Work in Progrss. A very encouraging story of the peace and happiness living a Christian life.

Love it!. Awesome! Uplifting! Page-turner! Great example of how we show God’s love through us. 😀

A Work In Progress. Not only was this a Christian romance it was a spiritual learning experience for me Loved reading and learning this book Thank you for writing and sharing this story

Uplifting Read. Poignant and engaging, Work in Progress inspires with realistic characters with real life problems whose lives are touched by God's love.

Work In Progress. Intriguing. I thought at first it went over top with religion. The truth there's everything to be learned along with the characters and ourself. A truly enthralling believable romance. Such hopeful and peaceful ending. I know now where to find and see the smoke.

Feel like there’s something missing in your life?. A book every young person, middle school to college, should read.

I didn’t expect... This book is awesome! I didn’t know what to expect but this was right on time. Sometimes the simplest thing be our biggest fear. Very Great read!

Well-woven story, but one point of bad theology. Very realistic characters and interactions. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. --but I strongly disagree with something one of the characters says, that the God of the Old Testament is a God of judgement and not of love. Check out Psalm 136, which repeats 'His love endures forever' 26 times! --and both of the love commands (Love God; Love your neighbor) are from the Old Testament! Also, there's plenty of judgment in the New Testament: Revelation for sure; and read through a Gospel again and note how many times Jesus scolds somebody!

A work in progress. Avery interesting , moving story. Very applicable to present day lives.

Mind glowingly dull and uninteresting. Just hoping to save someone from wasting hours of their life on this. Waste of my time. I usually can't wait to go to bed reading at night. I hated having to until i finished (I can't help myself but finish what I start- I'm a glutton for punishment that way) this. Very weird religious turn that continued to the end. Odd. Odd odd. Poor writing and very bland characters. If you value your time or intellect, please avoid.

No stars if possible. Long drivel! Writing was juvenile at best.

Immature storyline. The story was a bit disappointing. Most of the book I wanted to have a talk with Rebecca about her lack of interest in simple grooming. She just kept complaining about how she didn’t look right. I just wanted to tell her to brush her hair and wear some unwrinkled clothes. I did like the emphasis on getting closer to God. I appreciated the effort the author put to add it to the story. The book’s target audience might be for the younger readers.

A work in Progress. Excellent! I throughly enjoyed this book. It was very insightful and helpful to me in this season of my life. The Holy Spirit really spoke volumes to me. Thanks so much.

Awesome!. This book was seriously the best!!!! It was clean and talked a lot about God!!!!!

I loved it. I really enjoyed this book. It is a good, clean book and the references to religion and Holy Spirit was refreshing.

Decent.. It was a decent book overall. I struggled a lot in the beginning about whether or not I wanted to continue reading. It just didn’t feel like there was enough to hold me. Eventually, it got better but even then.. it was just okay. There was some good spiritual knowledge in the book and even that was introduced very suddenly. However, I do believe God spoke to me while reading and I enjoyed the characters. I really wanted to like the book but it just turned out okay.

Uplifting messages. At first, this seems like a teen read. However as the story progresses, we are uplifted by the messages of God’s Love and how He works through us to reach others and our own needs through Trust in Him….. and how He does just this for our main characters. A worthwhile read!

A work in progress. This is a great story about some college co-eds who through different circumstances find themselves meeting new friends and also finding God and getting to know the Holy Spirit. A well worth book to read.
