The Guilty by David Baldacci Book Summary

After failing a critical assignment overseas, Will Robie must investigate a murder accusation against his father--but to save him, he'll have to face a violent and deadly fallout in this New York Times bestselling thriller.

Will Robie escaped his small Gulf Coast hometown of Cantrell, Mississippi after high school, severing all personal ties, and never looked back. Not until the unimaginable occurs. His father, Dan Robie, has been arrested and charged with murder.

Father and son haven't spoken or seen each other since the day Robie left town. In that time, Dan Robie--a local attorney and pillar of the community--has been elected town judge. Despite this, most of Cantrell is aligned against Dan. His guilt is assumed.

To make matters worse, Dan has refused to do anything to defend himself. When Robie tries to help, his father responds only with anger and defiance. Could Dan really be guilty?

With the equally formidable Jessica Reel at his side, Robie ignores his father's wishes and begins his own desperate investigation into the case. But Robie is now a stranger to his hometown, an outsider, a man who has forsaken his past and his family. His attempts to save his father are met with distrust and skepticism...and violence.

Unlike the missions Robie undertook in the service of his country, where his target was clearly defined, digging into his father's case only reveals more questions. Robie is drawn into the hidden underside of Cantrell, where he must face the unexpected and possibly deadly consequences of the long-ago choices made by father and son. And this time, there may be no escape for either of them.

Page turner. Great read. Good mystery. Very cool to learn about Robie’s upbringing. Only downside is no agent Vance or Julie Getty.

Just Average for Baldacci. Will Robie is one of my favorite characters, but this storyline was to convoluted to remotely believe. Sure, it is fiction, but other books in the Robie series had a tint of reality. Buy it, but don't expect to live up to the others.

The Guilty. Another quality Baldacci novel. An enjoyable read with a quality ending. Flip513

Verbose. Took too long to get there.

The Guilty. A great book with the twist and turns expected from the author. An book that draws you in and will not let you out! I can't for the next no matter what character(s) are involved.

The guilty. Well written book. I was afraid it would be typical of a Northern Author writing about the south. Not so much. Reminded me of Lee Child's protagonist Jack Reacher. Good storyline, and it will have you guessing on where it is going.

The Guilty. Not the ending I expected, but enjoyed the story regardless of the fact that historically, very few woman evolve into serial killers.

A good read if a little predictable. a pleasant read that trots along with predictable turns. But like so many books then rushes to the finish in the last few chapters

Guilty. Came late to these Robbie novels but love them easy read and very entertaining

The Guilty. Excellent, great story, really could not put it down.

The Guilty David Baldacci. Will Rosie is an assassin, employed by a clandestine agency of are government. He now faces issues as a direct result of him competing his mission but also unfortunately killing an innocent child. He has returned to the place of his birth in Mississippi. A small town called Cantrell and his father is being held in jail for a murder he didn’t commit. What ensues is a story that only could be described that no one could possibly fathom. An excellent read!!! My highest recommendation.

The Guilty. Very disappointing effort from a usually fine and reliable writer. Pacing slow as the Mississippi and stock characters of little interest. Just plain boring and slow.

The Guilty. Bad storyline for this character. Bad storyline in general. Skip it.

The guilty. can't go to sleep without finishing this one. Never expected the outcome. It's a non stop read. Loved it. I felt the Mississippi heat the entire time. Where's my ice cold sweet tea?

The Guilty. Definitely not one of Mr. Baldacci's best. I've read all of his books, and I felt this one was a disappointment.

Run of the mill. If you do not guess the ending of this, you are easily misdirected. The convoluted plot stretches credibility at times through actions (or inactions) of some characters. There are several times I would scratch my head when characters overlooked the obvious. I predicted the ending of the book very early on in the novel. Which, by the way, stains credibility the most. If you get this at a bargin book store or borrow it, okay. But, as someone else posted, don’t waste your money.

Excellent entertainment. I've read all of Baldacci's novels, and this is one of the most gripping reads. Had only the slightest idea of who the murderer might be, and that's only because I have read thousands of novels, at least 1k in the genres of murder/spy/intrigue/mystery/psychological/thriller,.... I particulary enjoyed learning Will Robie's back story, finally! What a series of twists in the plot!

it was fine. it was a pretty good book, an easy read not at all as predictable as the third book in the series, quite a big improvement in fact. while reading this it wasn’t as good as first but still pretty interesting and miles ahead of the third one

Great book. BBE

Great ending. One of his most thrilling and touching books I have read. This entire series is a great read.

Excellently written complex characters. In the end all so human. So fragile and flawed , damaged ravaged by the incidents of living life.

Waste of money. This book is a disaster. The plot is so convoluted as to be unbelievable. Poor characters. Just a complete disaster of a book. Baldacci is capable of good stories. This is not one.

Wow. Though I have loved many of Baldacci's books, this certainly feels like one of my favorites. Complex yet entertaining with more twists than a typical Mississippi or VA country road. Well done! Mike D, Roanoke, VA

Good and Bad. First two thirds of book is a page turner. Great read. The last part is totally unrealistic and reads like a sci-fi novel. Not up to his usual.

The Guilty. Another good story from this author. It was full of twists and turns.. kept the reader guessing who the culprit was. I was surprised and so will you be!

Mocha Dog. A very good and worthwhile read. Strong character development and story line. The storytelling was familiar as were the main characters, but in a time and place not anticipated. Once again, Will and Jessica are shown as more than one dimensional action figures, who continue to develop and evolve through life.

Guilty. A real thriller.

Non Stop Action. More twists and turns than an old country road! Well written, action packed couldn't put book down!

Guilty. Though I normally love Baldacci's novels, I simply did not enjoy reading this book. The situation presented was not realistic at all. . .and, the killing in this novel had nothing to do with national security. Baldacci tried to present an absurdly complicated serial killer.

Great read!. This book does not disappoint at all! It keeps you interested from the beginning to end which was a bit of a surprise twist for me! I loved all the other books in this series too!

Poignant and very moving.. Touches all bases of emotion an intrigue.

WOW!!. David Baldacci is such an amazing writer. You will be blown away. The twists and the storyline are superb!

The Guilty. More cops and robbers than Robie Reel and Blue Man

Great read. This was a great read. The Guilty was recommended to me by a friend and I couldn’t put it down. I read this book in less than 72 hours ( not a norm for me) I purchased a digital copy of this book but I will be purchasing a traditional copy as well. I can see myself reading this book again and again.

Guilty?.. I hesitated reading this book based on prior reviews. It is not a typical Baldacci, Robie and Reel book. Not a bad story line, but not the usual secret agency thriller that he normally writes. If you want a good secret military novel, don't bother with this one.

Horrible. This is absolutely the worst book I have read to date...

Guilty. Plz don't ever buy another book by baldacci. Starts out ok, then gets worse and worse. Disappointed

The Ridiculous. The ending was not predictable because it was ridiculous. He may as well had invasion by inbred space aliens...hey, that's not bad!

A Good Read. After reading so many negative reviews I almost took a pass on reading The Guilty. That would have been a bad decision. This was a good read that kept me turning the digital pages. No, this was not your typical spy thriller; it was a good murder mystery with a bit of spy thriller tossed in for good measure. The Guilty was not exactly what I expected but it kept me reading. The story was nicely constructed with plenty of interesting turns, and the climax certainly was a surprise. All I all, this was a very good read!

Loved it.. Edge of your seat interesting. Not a dull moment. One of his best.

Guilty. Excellent!!!!! All the series!!

Excellent as always.. An masterpiece of lives interwoven to keep you interested from beginning to end.

Good grief. This one could have been pretty good but it takes a turn so preposterous you’ll be annoyed you bothered to read this one.

Just Ok. I'm usually a big fan of his books but this one seemed to be too much of the same thing. Very predictable and drawn out. I had hoped for better from about Baldacci!!!

Another great read. DB has done it again, great plot full of twists and unforeseen consequences.

Slow. A little slow and ponderous at times but overall a pretty good read.

Great story and plot. Not as well written.. I liked the book. Good story and plot with a different twist on the Will Robie series. Why the three stars? It's just not the writing style and flow of the old "Camel Club" Baldacci. Good book, but not great.

The Guilty. Love Will and Jessica. Again, I couldn't put the book down. Even though this wasn't what Will and Jessica normally portray it was still a exciting read. Can't wait for the next Will Robie book! Never a disappointment. Until the next trigger pull....Balducci is on his A game keep writing!😁

Another good read. Typical Baldacci, a good story - well told. Yes there's some unpleasant subject matter but it's part of an unpleasant character. And I guarantee you'll never see this end coming....

Eh. Slow, plodding and not believable at all. Like this great yarn spinner needed to crank one out for the publisher. Just not worth buying or reading. Normally like all his work. Not his sappy, predictable, mash.

The Guilty. Hard to put it down. Full of characters, drama and suspense! Typical of David's thought and style. Can't wait for the next novel.

Where are the reviews?. Why doesn't iBook have reviews or just a few when I see 15 or 20 in the review list? I went to Kobo for a short time and every book there has 10, 20 or more reviews. Gives a better idea of what I should download. My apologies for this complaint in this section but don't know where else to put it. Gave this book 5 stars to make up for it. And I love Baldacci novels so will download it for sure.

Excellent story. This is Will Robie #3. I very much enjoyed this novel. We learn a great deal about Will's past and are introduced to his home town when he returns there to learn why his father has been arrested for murder. The real killer is not revealed until the end, but you see glimpses of them throughout the story. David Baldacci is skilled at writing an enthralling murder mystery wrapped in Will's past and will keep you turning the pages to find out what happens. I highly recommend this book and series.

The Guilty. Excellent story!! So well written,so compelling. Riveting until the very last page. Hard to put down once you begin reading. Mr. Baldacci's books are always sure winners! You are truly a very gifted writer. Thank you for a wonderful read, as always. Bella

The Guilty. I enjoyed reading this book. A lots of twists and turns. Kept my attention until the end. One thing kept nagging at me..and I am sorry but a step brother and a half brother are not the same thing...

The guilty. This was yet another page turning, couldn't put it down book. I live in a small town with no book stores so when we go to a larger city we look for books by David Baldacci an believe me you will not regret purchasing this one. Keep them coming David can't wait for the next one. Wow
