Consequences by Aleatha Romig Book Summary

Book #1 of the bestselling Consequences series
From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig comes a suspenseful thriller about secrets and deception, passion and love, choices and consequences.

Every action has consequences.

Waking in an unfamiliar bedroom in a luxurious mansion, Claire Nichols is terrified to discover that a chance encounter led her into the cruel hands of her abductor, Anthony Rawlings. Claire has no understanding of why she’s there, but it’s been made abundantly clear—she is now his acquisition and every action has consequences.

Learn the rules to survive.

Facing incomprehensible circumstances, Claire must learn to survive her new reality—every aspect of her livelihood depends upon the tall, dark-eyed tycoon who is a true master of deception. Driven by unknown demons, he has no tolerance for imperfection, in any aspect of his life, including his recent acquisition. Anthony may appear to the world as a handsome, benevolent businessman, but in reality Claire knows firsthand that he’s a menacing, controlling captor with very strict rules: do as you’re told, public failure is not an option, and appearances are of the utmost importance.

Captivate the captor.

To fit together the pieces of the puzzle, Claire must follow his rules. Will her plan work, or will Anthony become enthralled by Claire’s beauty, resilience, and determination, changing the game forever? If that happens, will either of them survive the consequences?

Nobody ever did or ever will escape the consequences of his choices.—Alfred A. Montapert

Kept me engrossed. Great story line!

DNF - Giant plot holes defy belief. Stopped reading after Chapter 8 when she went in public with her captor/rapist/abuser and she didn’t alert the press taking red carpet photos of the event that she was being held against her will. I might understand if he was insanely psychotic and she feared for her life, or if he had actual leverage over her. But aside from the years of stalking (of which she is completely unaware) he has only shown her garden variety abusive and controlling behavior and threatened her with a contract. And the contract? It’s a blank bar napkin with the word “job contract” and her signature. Is she that stupid that she thinks it’s legally binding? Or did she just decide if she can avoid beatings and brutal sex that she might as well get her debts paid off? A little part of me wants to keep reading just to see where this train wreck ends, but I’m pretty sure I would hate myself after the last page. I would especially hate myself if I actually paid for the second and third books of the trilogy. Two stars for writing that is decent enough to keep me curious against all reason, sense, and judgement.

Deleted from my " to read" list!. This writer nearly has a storyline...that becomes ridiculous for the time period. She nearly writes sex scenes...that end abruptly and begin a new chapter. She nearly has a romantic, emotionally charged moment...that evolves in to nothing. No matter how you try to understand her characters...you cant...they are extreme yet she shoves them back in line after a paragraph in order to make the reader believe in them (??) eg he beat her to unconsciousness after which he stated his undying love, proposed and she accepted. She by the way is supposedly an independent , smart career women who rightfully hates the male character in the story, right up to the time he proposes! Pick a story, place the content in the right century and evolve the characters so we recognize/ associate with them, then decide who is bad/good and write so I will believe what I am reading. Until then, this author is off my "to read" list!

Loved the series!. At first I wasn't sure about this first book. But the end had a good twist. So I bought the 2nd book. Totally loved the series! Couldn't put it down.

Consequences. I enjoyed this book. It captured my attention and held it throughout the story and I am ready for the next book!

Consequences. Couldn’t quit reading it once I started. Excellent writing! Surprise ending. Can’t wait to read all the Authors books.

Great book. This book invoked so many different emotions. Very well written and interesting plot.

Don't recommend. Beginning to middle was a great read. Book became very boring and blahhhh from middle to end.. I would skip chapters at a time and not miss anything.. Almost stopped reading entirely. Ending was okay but could've been written better. For how excellent the book started I expected more from the overall of the book.. Wasn't impressed and won't be recommending this to anyone.. Won't be reading any of the others..

Consequences. This book was LONG and hard to keep my focus, since it was somewhat repetitive. I struggled to finish it. There were many times I considered stopping.

Amazing !. I was hooked from the beginning ! Can't wait to read more !

Horrible book.. Kidnapping, rape, stalking, physical and emotional abuse...and completely boring characters. I hated him, and detested her. Pathetic. And there's nothing sexy about any of the above.

Too much unnecessary detail. Although disturbing but well-written, it provided unnecessary details such as an entire interview article.

consequences. This book was fantastic from start to finish. I wonted Claire and ANTOHNEY TO FIND THEIR WAY TOGETHER BUT ALAS IT WAS NOT TO BE

Paige53. I really enjoyed this mystery, can't wait to see what happens next.

Consequences. Great book looking foward to reading truth

Good but slow to start. The whole series is a good read. The story starts of agonizingly slow but if you can get past it the story is very good and I enjoyed reading it. The first two books felt like they took me forever to read. After that it was fine.

Consequences. Wow.... Had to admit Clarie had me angry bowing to Tony's wishes. But I couldn't put the book down. Ive read several books by this author and as always she delivers...great writer. Creative and keeps you guessing. I have to say I have never received a free book from her and didn't want more. Definitely recommend👌🏾👍🏽

Couldn't put it down. Great. Read. I wasn't sure of it at first, but the more I read, the more couldn't put it down.

Lackluster and predictable. I rarely leave reviews, but I feel so frustrated with myself for pushing myself to finish this thing, hoping for some redeeming quality, that I feel compelled to write one now. The book is way too long, with endless exposition and repetitious, boring descriptions of things that have nothing to do with the plot. The plot itself is also very lackluster. The "twist" was obvious from the first flashback, but I kept hoping that the author was lulling me into thinking the book was going one way and would pull off some grand trick at the end. Nope. It was exactly as forecasted in that early chapter, with no surprises or deviations. The characters are similarly flat and almost cartoonishly stereotypical. I would definitely not recommend this to fans of thrillers, dark romances, or really anyone who enjoys good storytelling. The only reason I'm giving this two stars instead of one is because the author seemed to have a *slightly* better grasp of grammar, syntax, and punctuation than some self-published authors I've read.

Frustrating, irritating and goes nowhere!. The story was long and boring. The writing is monotonous and goes on and on. Nothing happened of any consequence and even the sex scenes were skipped over. Several times I skipped multiple pages only to land on another incident of her saying I'm sorry or him being a control freak extraordinaire! The end leaves you hanging but not in a good way.

Loved this whole series.. A great beginning to an awesome series. So many questions, and crazy twists!

Hard to get through at times.. This book could've been cut in half if the filler pages were deleted. Half of the book was a watered down 50 shades of grey with an abusive streak. The author did a great job at glorifying and also making you hate Tony. The last 300 pages completed the book but I went through a lot of fluff to get there and nearly gave up on the book numerous times. Author was rather descriptive but also glorified male dominance and made Claire weak. There was so much opportunity for her to stand up for herself or run away minus the consequences.. I can't stand reading books with a weak female character.

Poor writing but great story. The grammar, syntax, and overall writing is poor, and at times, I was surprised the book made it through editing, but the actual plot and characters are fantastic. While I'll admit that some parts of the book carry on too much, akin to a run-on sentence, it's still a pleasant read, and as I said, the plot and characters are spot on. The author does a marvelous job at creating conflict, climax, and plot twists. You don't really see them coming, and so it makes you want to keep reading. The characters are complex. HEAVY TRIGGER WARNING to those who have suffered abuse. However, I give a standing ovation to the author for not normalizing or glorifying the abuse. It's made clear that it is abuse, and the conflict in the main characters mind over the abuse (and struggling with Stockholm syndrome) make it realistic. Overall, I would give five stars if it weren't for the poor writing mechanics.

MIND BLOWN!!!. I never write reviews, even if I love a book. But this book has truly hit it right out of the park!!! Officially the best book I have ever read in all my 27 years!!! I can't wait to start the next book.

Trigger warning!. I just finished the first book in the series. The whole time I was reading it... And I do mean the whole time... I could not figure out what the point of the book was. The lead character is a nut job... The heroine is weak and only good at apologizing for things that she should have never apologized for. The story line was pretty typical. Mostly I spent the whole book thinking I hope that guy gets his throat cut at some point in this book. I wish I could rate it 0 stars... But that's not an option. Good start... Meh middle... And the ending... What??? Don't waste your time.

consequences. Couldn't finish this garbage.

Consequences. A spell binding read can't wait to read others in series

Consequences. This was the most unendingly boring book I've ever read. Please go back to dental hygienist!

I hate this guy!. I could not put the book down and it is a nice length for a free series starter but talk about Stockholm syndrome! What kept me reading was the hope for her justice and that she would stab him in his sleep.

Whoa, wait...WOW!!. The first third of the book sucked me in. My mind—unable to keep up with the speed that my eyes wanted to read! Then, the middle of the book slowed way down and I found myself bored of reading blah details and descriptions that seemed unnecessary. But, thankfully, I’m not a quitter! I committed myself to this book, and boy am I glad I did! The last third of the book was filled with exciting and shocking twists, and major “a-ha” moments! I am a fan and will be reading many more of Aleatha’s titles.

Wow...just wow. Crazy story!... With each act of rebellion or forgetfulness From Claire my heart rate increased as I anticipated what would happen next. It was a journey through someone's personal hell and took me on a roller coaster of emotions. I could not put the book down!!! I am a fan and will be finishing the series!

Mouth dropping. I was in complete awe with this novel!! The detail and description is so vivid, you can't help but feel as if you were right there in the book. The male main character is everything every girl has ever dreamed off as well as ever feared of. The female main character undergoes so much psychological damage and persona changes your exhausted right there with her. Overall this book was absolutely hands down amazing, currently purchasing the sequel of 4!!

Consequences. What did I just read? So good but, seriously twisted too, and can’t wait to read the rest in the series either lol. Had me, and blew me away.

Save your money!. Just terrible! Lazy writing with zero character development. The only redeeming quality of the male lead is money. He almost kills the female lead by beating her and an apology makes it all better!?!? DONT WASTE YOUR TIME.

Consequences. If you liked Gone Girl, you will like this one! Highly recommended purchasing the box set, you will want to keep reading after the first book.

Consequences. Good reading. Will recommend.

Consequences. This series is mind blowing! Read entire series in three days because I could not put it down. By far one of the best series I've read in a long time. Highly recommend to anyone. Romance, mystery, great characters and even better storyline!

Psychological Thriller. I read this awhile back, and it still sticks with me. At first, I wasn't so sure about it because I was expecting dark erotica. This book isn't erotic. It's a psychological thriller. Consequences was the first time that this author messed with my head, and I've continued to go back for more.

Could have been better.... The first pages of the book had my interest but after the wedding it just went on and on with trips and shopping and apologies for hundreds of boring pages to the end and then abruptly leaves you hanging for more but not in a good way. Hundreds of pages in the middle are pointlessly dull and I think the author should have developed and drawn out the ending a little more instead of dragging out all the endless vacations and shopping trips. The last 75 pages starts to heat up and then the story just ends!

Great. One of the best books I've read in a log time. Can't wait to finish them all.

Thrilling. Oh My Gosh I couldn't put the book down,( or I should say put my phone down) I had to keep reading. Love love love it!!

Addicting!. Please, please read this book. You will NOT regret it. It was so addicting that my boyfriend had to actually take my phone away from me because I couldn't stop reading! The twists and turns the author added to keep you intrigued worked very, very well. The ONLY part that I "skimmed" through was one of the vacations that was described. I was more so excited for Claire & Tony to get home and back to their dramatic lives. Long story short, this was a fantastic read. As soon as I finished, I purchased book #2. Beginning as soon as I finish this review!!! Job well done, Ms. Romig!!!

Mysogonistic pap. ...that is weirdly compelling. Don't start it and you won't suffer through all the horror and be left with a cliff hanger.

Wow!!!. This book is juicy and keeps you from beginning to end such a crazy mix of characters and personalities a great read.

Meh.. I was really excited to read another series by this author since I loved the other one I read so much. However, this book was a huge disappointment. There was barely any dialogue at all, the intimate scenes were lacking greatly compared to the other series, and the story was very anticlimactic. There were maybe 2 or 3 exciting scenes/chapters. It seemed like a completely different author 😒

I hated this book. It's appalling to imagine someone falling in love for their captor and abuser. The leading man rapes her, beats her to pieces and she falls in love for him?? Are you kidding me?? This author needs to have her head examined. I was hoping she would be able to scape and put him in prison, but no... this is horrible. Don't waste your money like I did.

Consequences. Very dramatic but reading this was like having a conversation with someone who has a lot to say but really conveys nothing. Round and round repeating one overall scenario many times all to get to the same cliffhanger ending. I have never been a let’s just skip to the end reader but I sure wish I had done that rather than wasting my time reading to the end. Pathetic and shame on me for reading most of it. You can be sure I will not read anymore of the books by this author.

Great Story, Poor Execution. This book has an amazing storyline, but the execution leaves much to be desired. The author tends to ramble with unnecessary details to the point where I found myself skipping pages. The dialog is minimal and leaves a void in your ability to relate and desire to continue reading. However, this is one of the most creative plots I have encountered in a very long time. Everything about this book is so unexpected! The ending is phenomenal and gives you the drive to read the next book. This book could be off the charts with a good editor. The storyline is what is driving me to proceed to the next book in the series with high hopes of better writing.

Completely riveting. I couldn't stop reading!!!

Wow. I felt all emotions as I read this at first it was confusion then lust then hate then lust then hate again and it would keep repeating and sometimes I would feel like why is she still doing this. I sometimes felt lien throwing my phone at the the wall because of how stupid she was sometimes most of the time I fumed over how Anthony acted and wished I could be the one on trial because I would do it I really hate him now

Couldn't put it down. This is an amazing book with a brilliant plot, keep reading to the end because the twist will leave you with your mouth open, had to get the next book straight away

Review:. I really enjoyed all the twists and turns involving the story. A great read that I will recommend to others

Unbelievable. Couldn't stomach this for long , storyline is ok but it is very tiring. Her attitude to being repeatedly raped is not believable at all . Will not be reading any more in the series .

Ok. Story was good but sorry... This was Sylvia days "crossfire" story line, or very similar.... Crossfire was awesome where this was a mockery.... Antony could never live up to Gideon... Finished it only because I paid good money for book... See what you think after reading crossfire gx ❤️

Great story line. I absolutely loved this series. It has lots of twists & turns. It's a lengthy book (and series) but it is very engaging. One of the best books that I have read for a long time & you will definitely want to read the others in the series- you just have to know what happens!

Great Read. Weirdly, I couldn’t wait for my hour and a half commute to and from work, as I knew I had this book to read. (I now have 4 more, yay!) Bought the sequeal within a minute of finishing Consequences.. Great read that allows you to experience a range of emotions towards a picular situation.

Consequences. Book was OK was disappointed that you have to read subsequent ones to find out the end of the story. Found the story a bit depressing and a bit same year all the way through.

Must read!. Best book in this category!! Loved every page!!! Must read!!!

Consequents. Dominence, corruption, evil. This book was hard to read but couldn’t put down. Made me angry, revolted, and wanting to shake and yell at our main characters.

Consequences. If you like harlequin romance novels this is for you Over 1000 pages!! Long on bedroom scenes short on story Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone

Kept me hooked. I felt a bit conflicted about this novel all the way through but overall found it quite enjoyable. It was a frustrating read at times but well worth it in the end, however, I will definitely have to purchase the subsequent novels! Very pleasantly surprised with the direction the book took- wasn’t predicable.

Hooked. This book kept me firmly hooked. I literally couldn’t put it down. I would honestly call it a thriller. My heart raced in anxiety for Claire and the mystery and subtle hints were captivating. I would highly recommend Consequences to anyone who enjoys a Dark Romance.

Consequences- Book #1. I kept reading & speed reading thru hoping the story would get better or even a little “real life”- I will not be bothering to finish this series.

She writes well, but.... I like mysteries and thrillers and this was filed in mysteries and thrillers. I have read no mystery, nothing "thrilling" and getting close to the end. There is no mystery as to the kidnapping, rape, physical and mental abuse (brainwashing) happening to this woman.

Consequences. Can see why this is a free download, can only be read in landscape. In portrait mode the left margin shifts extending the right margin to the point that it cuts off words. Also, anyone who quotes Bill Cosby in a book whose subject matter includes abducting a woman, confining her and raping her all in the first three chapters. Well...

What a tangled web?. This book got tedious for me part way through and I had to force myself to continue reading. It picked up again in the last one hundred pages or so until completion. I would like to read Book 2 to find out if there is a conclusion and to find out what happens to the characters in the book but not sure that I want to get into another book that will drag on.

Consequences. This book made me so angry! I kept waiting for the good part and instead I just kept feeling worse and worse. It’s horrible to write something like this and not give it SOME sort of closure at the end. It was brutal and awful and sickening and not what I thought I signed up for at all. Wish I’d never read it.
