One Year After by William R. Forstchen Book Summary

One Year After is the New York Times bestselling follow-up to William R. Forstchen’s smash hit One Second After, the novel cited on the floor of Congress as a book all Americans should read

The story begins one year after One Second After ends, two years since nuclear weapons were detonated above the United States and brought America to its knees. After months of suffering starvation, war, and countless deaths, the survivors of Black Mountain, North Carolina, are beginning to recover technology and supplies they had once taken for granted, like electricity, radio communications, and medications. When a “federal administrator” arrives in a nearby city, they dare to hope that a new national government is finally emerging.

That hope quickly diminishes when town administrator John Matherson learns that most of the young men and women in the community are to be drafted into the “Army of National Recovery” and sent to trouble spots hundreds of miles away. He and the people of Black Mountain protest vehemently. But “the New Regime” is already tyrannizing one nearby community.

Will Matherson’s friends and neighbors be next?

Devastated. I've read "One Second After" at least three times. I loves the personal story lines endearing you to their tragedies, triumphs...their humanity and the understated military rhetoric. This book is the opposite. It's all military function and in no way does it allow you any true empathy to the characters I was fascinated with in the first book.

Riveting read!. This is an excellent follow-up to One Second After. It unfortunately portrays what could easily occur in the aftermath of an EMP, and emphasizes the reason why social anarchy is not a reason for governmental authorities to take unconstitutional short-cuts to restore social order. I do agree that the grammar is poor at times, but it is still an excellent read.

Dont bother. Not even close to the first one

Entertaining Read. This book starts a little slower than the other two in my opinion but the ending makes up for it and is worth the read if you have invested the time into the first two.

One Year After. Now that I've just finished this one, I must say " hope the next one comes out before too long. Great job ! If this book is just half as good as "One Second After" it will be a pleasure to spend the $12.99 If you've not read the 1st go now and get it on whatever format you wish, but buy it.

Outstanding. Enjoyed it immensely. It picked up well and introduced other characters some you will love to hate. Still wondering what those messages from the BBC mean but that may be for another book...

Great book, but.... I have enjoyed the Bronson Pinchot narration. However, he’s voicing the John Matherson character with a Southern accent. Matherson was supposed to be a Yankee from New Jersey.

Great plot, terrible writing. I got hooked on the story with his 1st book in the series and bought this one on publication day. The great plot and story line continued, but a short time in to the book I realized this guy is a horrific writer! I mean so bad that a high school creative writing teacher would cringe at all the hyperbole, overwrought adjectives and other assorted crimes against the language. But for some doomsday brain candy, a good read.

Great Read!. This book was extremely good. The ending was a little to be expected, but overall an excellent book!

Great read. Will there be another sequel? I hope so.

Good, but not what I was expecting. The book is exciting, scary at times, and is a page-turner...but it falls short of my expectations after reading One Second After. The first book depicted a very realistic and likely post-EMP scenario, but this book focuses on rebuilding a community from a military perspective. It doesn't develop the original characters any further and it lacks the survival information and helpful tidbits of the first book. However, it does go on to show just how many things we would miss in a post-EMP world (stock up on coffee!) and so much of what we take for granted every day. That said, if you're into military strategy and the gruesome details of war, then you'll love this book.

Less frightening than the likely reality. This book — the series — is less frightening than the reality of an EMP attack or a solar X-flare event similar to the 1859 Carrington event. This book should be a warning taken seriously.

It's good. If you liked the first one it's more of the same.

One second after. Excellent book. Really enjoyed the real life scenarios.

Loved the second book in this series!!!. ❤❤❤❤
