Praise for Star Wars: The Force Awakens

“Like all the best novelizations, Alan Dean Foster’s adaptation of Star Wars: The Force Awakens enriches the movie experience. The novel goes beyond simply giving us insight into the characters’ thoughts, with plenty of additional scenes painting a broader picture of the galaxy.”—New York Daily News

“Fast-moving, atmospheric and raises goose-bumps at just the right moments. [Foster] not only evokes entire onscreen worlds . . . he also gives us glimpses of an even more vast, unseen universe.”—The Washington Post

“Was my experience of the film enriched by the book? Yes. No question. Is the novelization worth reading? Yes. . . . Foster has written a book that captures the spirit of the film, while presenting additional information that helps answer some of the questions that linger.”—Coffee with Kenobi

Star bore. The movie was terrible and so is this book.. Just watch episode 4 and throw in a bit of 5 and 6. They may as well stamp Mickey mouse on the back of the storm trooper helmets and call it a day. Say what you will about the prequels.. They enriched the world and furthered the story. This They should have scratched the whole thing and just rebooted it.. Such crap.

Yesssss Pls. Love this series and book. Thank u so much!!!!

Awkward and verbose. I'm an avid reader, used to cleanly written dialog. This was awkward and hard to follow at times. The sentence structure sometime obscured the point. I think if it was cleaned up the book would have been seriously short, so maybe this explains the wordiness. I read Grisham, Clancy, Ludlum, isles, and more and this was just a tough read. I would have enjoyed the story more if it hadn't been written by R2D2, I mean, he's cute, but he needs an interpreter.

Don't expect a lot of answers not given in the movie. I would say that the book is well written and a fast read. There are a few bits of new information in the form of scenes not in the movie or extended dialog. For instance what happens to Maz. There are also some technical details (metaphysics) not in the movie. All in all an enjoyable companion to watching the movie. But no it won't tell you Rey's last name!

The Force Awakens. Quite enjoyable. A lot of info that you miss in the movie is explained in this novelization. Wish Alan Dean Foster wrote more for adult fans.

Good read. Good book, I enjoyed it. Was hoping for more as far as extra scenes, more dialogue that isn't in the movie. But overall it was good.

Cool. I have been waiting for a book for forever! ITS finally here!! Yay!!!!!!!!!🤗

Best yet!!. Best novelization of a star wars movie by far!!!!! I've read all 6 prior this movie could have been 4 hrs long if the extra stuff was added!!If you have any questions they are answered!! Thoughts of holes in the story?? They are filled beautifully!!! This was my first ever digital book!! The force awakens me to a whole new form of media!!

Excellent movie, but.... ...if you came here to see how it ends, go spend $8-15 on one of the best, if not the, best Star Wars film, or just sit, wait until it hits home release, and watch your friends stew in the annoyance that they can't spoil it for you. 😜

How can you write a review on a book that hasn't come out yet??!!!. XD

Great follow up to the movie!. The novelization of the new movie, The Force Awakens offers insight into characters that you normally don't get in motion pictures. With all the Star Wars movies, the novels help you understand the thoughts behind the actions and what's running through characters minds during certain events. One reason I've always loved books is the "peak behind the curtain" you get of what a character is thinking, as opposed to just what they're saying and doing. This novelization adds a depth to the storyline that expands on the movie. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is more than just a casual Star Wars fan!

Non-Fiction. Why do many people say that Star Wars is Fiction?! It's Non-Fiction!!! It's all true!!!

Fans Will be Pleased. This review was first published on Kurt's Frontier. Synopsis: Years after the battle of Endor, the death of Palpatine, and the reclamation of Darth Vadar/Anakin Skywalker, the darkness is rising again. The remnant of the Empire has reshaped itself into the First Order. General Liea Solo is searching for her brother, Luke Skywalker who has vanished. A trusted move to secure information that could help her locate him. However, the First Order is not far behind. A young First Order Storm Trooper has seen too much and defects. A scavenger girl who is more than she seems comes into possession of a droid with the much sought after information. Together, the three set out to help defeat the first order. Along the way they meet old heroes and new enemies. Supreme Leader Snoke has taken over the roll of the Emperor, and Kylo Ren is his apprentice. Review: It is interesting to do my first review of the novelization of the long anticipated seventh edition to the Star Wars series. I was a bit taken aback when I first heard that Disney would make the movie. I had visions of Storm Troopers with Micky Mouse Ears… excuse me… helmet enhancement units. I was more than pleasantly surprised by the movie, and doubly so with the novel. The story centers on three people. First is the Storm Trooper FN-2187 who takes the name Finn. Second is Rey: a girl living by her whits on the planet Jakku as a scavenger. On the other side is Kylo Ren, an admirer of Darth Vader and the new enforcer of the First Order. He also has demons he has yet to vanquish—or embrace. Tying them together is the droid, BB-8 who is carrying a partial map to the jedi hero, Luke Skywalker. It is a story of facing fear and of bonds of friendship. Fans of the series will be pleased.

Star Wars for 6th graders. I had hoped for better writing. I get that this is based on a movie, and not the other way around, but the writing was not up to my standards. This is a good book for children, not for adults with better vocabularies and a more refined writing style.

Will. This is amazing

Great. Summarizes what happens in the movie with a *little* more details. I was hoping for more background info from the characters but still I great book. I enjoyed reading this and can't wait to read more:)

Great detail.... Edit: After watching the film, I have a better appreciation for the author of this book. I love the novel. #EndEdit - After reading the first chapter, I'm somehow still awake. The writer has a good vocabulary and vivid imagination, but he's injected a lot of pointless descriptions. I'm worried the rest of the novel will put me to sleep. Dedicating an entire page to the description of a characters boots is too much. But I'm glad I have the book as I can't make it to the theater.

Recaps the movie without a lot of extras. Compared to the movie there is extended dialog and you get some insight into Ren and Snoke's interpretation of the force. However the book doesn't really add the extra details I was looking for. There is literally nothing said about the details of the politics of The Republic, the Resistance, and the First Order. After reading this book I don't have much more insight into the new Star Wars universe than I did after watching the new movie. For example I was wondering what systems are under Republic control and which are under the First Order. Also the relationship between the resistance and republic isn't explored in any more detail than what's in the movie. Also besides the mention of the name of somebody Leia sends to the Ilenium system there's no fleshing out of those worlds. I find myself confused about what the First Order is and how it's organized. Do they have a seat of government somewhere or are they just a military? It seems implied that the Republic and the Resistance are different entities but that isn't fleshed out in this book any more than in the movie. I counted five scenes that are unique to this book that weren't in the novel. I wish there were more. Other than that it follows very close to the movie but with longer dialog.

Glimpse into the evolution of the script. The greatest thing this book does is give us a glimpse into the evolution of the script from the time this novel was written to the final release of the film. There are also additional scenes that were cut from the film and new material provided by the author. The novel helps to clarify some items in the film and extends some of the scenes in the film. For the most part though, the way the film was edited and condensed plays out much better. The dialog in the film in a lot more concise and direct. The filmmakers, presumable Abrams and Kasden, must have thoroughly combed through every word of dialog to get it to where it ended up. It's hard not to read the novel and wish the dialog played out exactly as it did in the film. Unfortunately the author doesn't bring a whole lot more to the story the way Salvatore and Stover were able to in their adaptations. Foster does not leave his mark in this novel, and his writing style has not improved since his previous Star Wars work. Glad the author was considered for nostalgic purposes, but give the future adaptations to someone else.

Excellent!. Excelente libro, mientras lo leia podia seguir la pelicula en mi mente! Lo recomiendo!

Ok. It was nice to read about parts that were not in the movie, but it could have been longer. There are a couple scenes in the movie which are not in the book as well.

Awesome!!!. I recommend this to anybody who likes Star Wars It's GREAT

Reading the book before the movie!!!. I preordered my ticket for the movie with the release of the book in mind. I didn't want the movie to spoil the book. That being said the book is well written and very easy to read. I would recommend it.

Kylo ren. Search kylo ren on safria it shows a pic of his face with out his mask😜

Great book and movie. This novel follow closely along with the movie of the same name, but as books often do, provides greater insight than the film. The writing and descriptions are excellent. The author engages the reader early and keeps you engaged throughout. This book is worthy of multiple reads.

Good. Good from the samples 🙂

Love Star Wars. Great read!

The Circle is Now Complete. Almost forty years ago, Star Wars blasted onto screen and garnered huge success. Naturally, a novelization of the film was published alongside its release. That novelization was ghostwritten by none other than Alan Dean Foster. Flash-forward to present-day, and Alan Dean Foster has returned to pen the novelization of the next film in the Star Wars Saga. Between the return of a seminal Star Wars author and the intense joy that I felt while watching Star Wars The Force Awakens, I had incredibly high hopes for this book. I am pleased to say that my expectations have been met…for the most part. This is ultimately a very serviceable adaptation of a great film with a few minor flaws, notably truncated descriptions and wonky pacing. With a film as fast-paced as The Force Awakens, I was hoping that Foster would slow the story down a bit and include more details about what was going on during some scenes. With the exception of the addition of a few “deleted scenes” (which were great to read), the rest of the writing felt focused on the surface details of on-screen events. I found myself craving more information about what was going on in characters’ heads and what they were feeling at each twist and turn. Foster elected to use a short, rough, and almost jolting writing style that throws the reader around from one scene to the next. Although this mostly works, I again wish he would have stretched out the story (especially given the book’s abysmal 272-page length). A particular highlight of this book is the the attention to detail that went into producing the physical copy. The dustjacket is elegantly designed and includes “a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…” as well as the production credits over a starry background. I also enjoyed the picture inserts in the middle of the book. Overall, this is a good novelization of a great Star Wars film. It is a quick and easy read that, despite a lack of details, allows the reader to relive the story of the film.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens. If you've seen the movie, read this book! Lot's of extra info and so well written, kept me turning the pages. I was visualizing the movie as I moved through the twists of plot and action all the way to the climactic finish .

Lacking depth. What a lackluster book. It is written like a news article. There is no emotion from any of the characters, no sense of joy, sorrow just nothing. If I could leave less than a star I would. Not worth the money and a let down to the Star Wars saga.

Good. Interesting while introducing new characters and saying farewell to a much beloved character. Wonder where it will lead?

Fun but. . .. Fun to experience the storyline again after the movie, but the writing is pretty terrible.

Love it. I love this book

Bad. This author is lazy or tried too hard. I have read better movie novelizations. Iron man, fantastic four, dark knight rises, superman returns. Some were short movies but the novels were clear. Even the first three episodes of Star Wars were better. This is a disgrace of a novel. The publisher fell asleep or just hoped it would ride the movie hype train.

💩. Amazing book

Amazing!. An amazing start for a new trilogy! Once I started reading I couldn't stop!

Kathy Farrell. I Love Star Wars The Force Awakens The Book Is Cool I’ll Play The Force Awakens Tomorrow.

Hella good. My favorte movie dawg and now book, sick bruh. Hella good bruh, Shaka narsh.

Foster bridges the old with the new just like the film (a spoiler-free review). This is the story we’ve been waiting for. It reaches deep into the consciousness of why we love the galaxy far far away while simultaneously reaching forward to usher in a new cast of characters and sequence of events that will extend far far into the future. Watching the film is one thing, and a wonderful thing indeed. Reading the novelization is a true joy because it strips the Force Awakens down to its simplest form – story. No special effects, soundtrack, or Harrison Ford’s cocky grin can distract you when you’re alone with the book. Rather than two hours spent in this plot, the novel allows you to take your time and dwell in the midst of the conflict and the excitement. There’s no doubt that I’ll read this one countless times. As far as the story is concerned, the Force Awakens was everything I’ve been hoping for and more. Having read quite a few sub-par Star Wars stories over the years, it’s easy to see that great care has been placed in crafting the new direction that is the plot of the sequel trilogy. It seamlessly balances the humor, action, charm, drama, and exhilaration that is pure Star Wars at its finest. At the same time, it is a perfect balance of the old and the new, ultimately leaving me incredibly satisfied with the story I was given while also incredibly eager for the rest of the story. Never before have I been so happy with a Star Wars story that has left me with so many questions. As a novelization, Foster delivers exactly as Foster does. It’s a good retelling of the story without being very stylized. I think that is the right direction with this story. The Force Awakens is amazing as it is and only needed to be presented in prose rather than spiced up like Stover’s telling of Revenge of the Sith. It’s not the best novelization of a Star Wars film, but it was the right choice in this case.

Wow!. Excellent story. I never know whether a Star Wars novel is going to be well written. They can be a crapshoot when it comes to quality writing. This novel by Alan Dean Foster has made me want to read more of his stuff. A strong author with a great adaptation of film to novel.
