Killing Reagan by Bill O'Reilly & Martin Dugard Book Summary

From the bestselling team of Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard comes Killing Reagan, a page-turning epic account of the career of President Ronald Reagan that tells the vivid story of his rise to power--and the forces of evil that conspired to bring him down.

The basis for the 2016 television movie available on streaming.

Just two months into his presidency, Ronald Reagan lay near death after a gunman's bullet came within inches of his heart. His recovery was nothing short of remarkable -- or so it seemed. But Reagan was grievously injured, forcing him to encounter a challenge that few men ever face. Could he silently overcome his traumatic experience while at the same time carrying out the duties of the most powerful man in the world?

Told in the same riveting fashion as Killing Lincoln, Killing Kennedy, Killing Jesus, and Killing Patton, Killing Reagan reaches back to the golden days of Hollywood, where Reagan found both fame and heartbreak, up through the years in the California governor's mansion, and finally to the White House, where he presided over boom years and the fall of the Iron Curtain. But it was John Hinckley Jr.'s attack on him that precipitated President Reagan's most heroic actions. In Killing Reagan, O'Reilly and Dugard take readers behind the scenes, creating an unforgettable portrait of a great man operating in violent times.

Great book. Excellent book on Reagan. A honest look at Ronald Reagan the man

Killing Reagan. This was a very delightful book to read. It held your attention and kept your interest, it also was factual and to the point. So far I have enjoyed all of Bill O'Reilly's books. But I think this by far is the best, although killing Patton was very very good as well.

Not their best. Having read all of the "Killing" series books, I found this one good but not great. The book when into way too much detail about stargazing and Nancy Reagan's influence. Reagan's own letter at the end of the book discounted much of these assumptions. Dever's accounts are somewhat antagonistic because of his termination at the end of Reagan's first tour. The historical accounts with Margaret Thatcher and Mikael Gorbachev are outstanding and very interesting. Again, this is an interesting and good bookk; but not great, as the other "Killing" series books are.

Another Winner. Bill does it again. Interesting and informative.

Umm no. What happens when a Harvard lawyer uses his considerable intellect to fleece the average American out of a few bucks each.

Garbage. Nothing that comes out of O'Reilly's mouth is fact

Well done. Not considered an avid reader, I found it difficult to put this book down. It is a very compelling "story" of lives gone by and lessons from history with mistakes that we keep repeating. I wish we could have more leaders of compassion like Reagan and Thatcher instead of egotistical politicians looking to create their own legacy.

Poor historical research. It is unfortunate when authors do not take the time to do proper research. The people who should have been interviewed, were not. This was an opportunity lost to get the facts, and we are left with the authors inaccurate portrayal of Reagan’s life. I would not recommend this book.

Very engaging. Enjoyed the insights while walking down memory lane!

0 stars. Does not address that he put Israel in harms way by selling arms to Iran, supporting killing squads in El Salvador, and negotiating with terrorists to win himself his election

Killing Reagan. The story was well told and clearly put forth. Even though I was alive for his election to President and greatly admired his pride in being an American, I did not fathom the full magnitude of his courage and acts while serving as our President.

Killing Reagan. Great book. Easy to read. Held my interest. Looking forward to their next book.

Not as good as other "Killing" books. I enjoyed the other Killing books, but was disappointed in this one. It really didn't deal much with the Hinkley aspect of Reagan's life. Instead, this was more of a Reagan biography with a lot of third hand info. It seemed pretty gossipy and I wasn't sure what to believe as fact and what was just opinion.

Just purchased !!!. thought id get because bill is my favorite !!!

Excellent. Absolutely the best of the "Killing" series. Excellent book. I searched all the speeches on YouTube and watched. Very well done!!

Killing Reagan. I was named for Ronald Reagan in 1943. Our mothers shared the same first name. Both Ronnie and I were targets of murder attempts in the early 80s and we both had profound near death experiences. I had studied his life but Killing Reagan gave me many details I did not yet know. This is how history is best learned. Kudos to Dugard and O'Reilly. Reagan meets my standards for a great president. Let us hope another such man will soon be our president. Ron Smothermon, M.D.

Killing Reagan. This book pictures Reagan as a lightweight who was out of touch with reality after an assassination attempt. I do not believe this assessment and think the authors have done a huge disservice to a great American president. Joseph Tebo

Killing Regan. A fantastic book! A must read.

Honest. An honest portrait of a patriot.

Beyond Fascinating!. I couldn’t put it down. I highly recommend it as it shed a new light on old events.

Outstanding, entertaining history book. O’Reilly and Dugard deliver once again. Details we never knew, such as Hinckley’s previously unreported skill with the cheap-but-deadly Saturday Night Special. Also, new details about the tragic cognitive decline of our beloved 40th president. Must read.

Only 3 when Regain took office.. I was to young to know what a Regain was like as a president. I just got a insight to what a great man he was. This was a good book to start with.

Best 'Killing' book. I've read all of O'Reilly's Killing books They all succeed as a means of making history readable This one is the best

Awesome read!!. This is the first book I have ready cover to cover in 20 years. That should tell you something.

Poorly written fiction. Total waste of money!

Killing Reagan. Great book, great read. Very informative!

Not as good as others in killing series. Greatest President, gutsy, brought America out of a recession, record inflation, unemployment. Crushed drug cartels Disappointing that that he had years of ramped promiscuity

Be careful mr.o. Be careful mr o fair and balanced is starting to fade so could your ratings if you continue to be a hack for the rhinos! I almost bought your book until i was educated by a real man who actually worked with president Regan. I'm starting to see you in a different way mr o and it's a shame you are not for the folks like you say you push the establishments agenda and it's clear to me that you have establishment bush hacks on your show all the time "rove" watch out mr o selling your soul isn't Christian! Good day mr o I hope you come back to your senses and keep it real!

Killing Reagan. I have read many & will continue to read more biographies of people that have made their mark on history. Killing Reagan is a well written testament to ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Inspirational! Give it a whirl, you won't regret it!

Boring. Very simple writing that requires very little thought.

Must read for Reagan followers!. Great job, chronicling the life and presidency of Ronald Reagan!

Another great job!. Enjoyed this book very much, Thank You.

Killing Reagan. Outstanding total comprehensive book describing the total man. Great read. If inverse still teaching would be required reading.

Total fiction. It's a good story. But it's fiction. The best "fish stories" contain just enough truth to sound believable. This is a really good fish story. But in the end it's fiction.

Terrible book. Bill oreily is an idiot

Killing Reagan. Most excellent! It is a shame to have to learn the heart and soul of America after the death of the subject of the book. Shame on our public schools that take a major back seat to books like this. A great and humbling read. To the liberal unions that are teaching our youth, "Tear down this wall." Doug Holden Littleton, CO

This is not history. This is historical fiction. It does not belong in history.

More of a biography but still great. This book along with all of the books in the series are well researched and written. There are several facts I didn't no about and enjoyed reading it. This one is a little different from the others in the "killing" series since he did not die mysteriously. I would of liked it to go into more detail when he was president and his relationships during this time along with exploring his memory loss and its effects on the presidency.

O'Reilly v. Will. I cannot figure out George Will's column that unmercifully attacked "Killing Reagan." While I agree this book broke little, if any, new ground, it is a good telling of a president's life. The narrative mirrors my memory of the era.

Killing Reagan. Good read, I was surprised by a few things in the book but liked it

好. very good

Page Turner. Very insightful look into the life of Regan and the times he lived in. Great read!

The Start of Our Downfall. Ronald Reagan created the 1st time largest deficit this country has had; he was the first to rob from Social Security to pay for his trickle down theory. If Bill O'Reilly is meaning this book to be humorous, then he has succeeded! RR still gets sympathy for having Alzheimer's for part of his 1st term and all of his second. Who was actually running this country?

Killing Regan. As I write this, I still have a lump in my throat and I am choked with emotion from reading killing Reagan. Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard have an incredible story telling ability - moving fluidly and seamlessly both forward and back in time in time and place the allow the reader to be swept up in the brilliant colors, deep emotions and dramatic power within the evocative canvas of the story they've painted so well. If you're considering whether to purchase or read this book, let me just say this: the time you spend reading this book his time wisely invested indeed.

Love all the "Killing" books. I have read all Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard's books and I can't wait for the next one.

Excellent!. I have read all the Killing series books, and I found this one the most interesting.

Easy read. Decent book. Easy read

Excellence in Print. This Is an excellent book. I have read history and biographies for over 30 years and this is one of the best. You will not be able to put it down.

Book Reader. Great book! I enjoyed reading it!

History. Loved the way Bill Oreilly puts the history into perspective of Reagans mental faculties. I lived in DC during the assassination attempt. This really put it all together for me.
