Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882) was born in Portland, Maine. He is the second son in a family of eight children. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow graduated from Bowdoin College. After that he studied modern languages in Europe for three years. Then he taught them in Bowdoin. Longfellow wrote many lyric poems. "The Wreck of the Hesperus" is a narrative poem. It is a story about a sea captain and his daughter. The author tells us about the tragic consequences of the main character's pride. On an unfortunate travel in winter, he brings his daughter aboard ship for company. What did happen then? What is the main author's thought?
