"Die Journalisten" ist ein Lustspiel in 4 Aufzügen und spielt in einer deutschen Provinzhauptstadt in der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts. Die "Politik" droht, zwei alte Freunde, den Oberst Berg und den Professor Oldendorf, auseinanderzubringen. Der konservative Oberst verübelt es dem Professor, daß er sich als Journalist für die liberale Zeitung "Union" betätigt und sich sogar als Wahlkandidat für die Kammer hat aufstellen lassen. Ehe er sichs versieht, wird der Oberst aber selbst in den Strudel der Politik und der bevorstehenden Wahlen hineingezogen. Der Gutsbesitzer Senden und der Redakteur Blumenberg von der konservativen Zeitung "Coriolan" verstehen es, den Oberst zu bewegen, sich als Gegenkandidat Oldendorfs aufstellen zu lassen. Die beiden Gegner versuchen nun, einer den andern zum Rücktritt zu bewegen...
