Amazing intro into DnD for meMy best friend showed me these books when I was younger, around 14 or so, and Im still reading them now at 27. I started off with this book and became OBSESSED with reading the rest. I truly enjoy Salvatores writing style and the addition of content he brings into the Forgotten Realms. I enjoy Sci-Fi both futuristic, DnD style, alternate universe, you name it. This mans writing introduced me into a great world of sci-fi that Im greatful for discovering. The start for me…This was the start for me. Great to revisit this book since it first came out…my goal is to reread/read all the “Drizzt books” and then tackle the new Drow books…aevendrow just to mention one of the “new” drow. It looks good so far though. Drizzt and company have never disappointed me. Come to think of it…never has this writer. It’s kinda funny how that works. Such a unique character. A heroic character with stories to tell..Score: 5/5
Very EnjoyableThis was my introduction to the forgotten realms universe, and I must say it was very enjoyable. While the book was interesting it was also predictable at times and that took away from the great experience I had. The world building of the drow society was superb and I felt as if I was along side Drizzt witnessing the atrocities of his people along side him. I gave it a 4 out of 5 because again it was quite predictable at times. I have high hopes for the second volume, and am very eager to see Drizzt's journey to the surface, and what the Mind Flayers on cover might have in store for the hero..Score: 4/5

Masterful and InstinctiveBeing an aspiring novelist myself, I would be inclined to place R.A. Salvatore in the fantasy hall of fame if there were such a thing, with names such as Tolkien and CS Lewis. Many an author has written tell tail stories of heroic exploits enticing the endless world of our imaginations but few have evoked such emotion as to make the characters come alive like Salvatore. He has mastered casting out just enough line to keep you coming back until finally your hooked and you find yourself wanting to befriend the characters and be part of the adventures yourself..Score: 5/5
Riveting page turnerI haven’t read a fantasy book for 20 years now I’m hooked! The fast pace and overarching plot of good conquers evil was so satisfying to read. Amazing!If you enjoy Fantasy novels then you love this book! I read this book for the first time in my early twenties. Then again in my early thirties. Now in my forties, I have read it yet again! It is remarkable how in each read through I have made connections with different characters of this story. This is truly a work of art, a masterpiece! Illidan Stormrage, of World of Warcraft fame, is one of my favorite fantasy characters. Second only to Drizzt Do’Urden. I have read almost all of Salvatore’s books on Drizzt. I feel the undeniable urge to read them all again and just as before, it all started with Homeland..Score: 5/5
