Hamit by Walter Kempowski Book Summary
Eine persönliche, gesellschaftliche und politische Dokumentation der Ereignisse – und die Geschichte einer Heimkehr
Hamit – Heimat: das beherrscht Walter Kempowski 1990, als er in seine Geburtsstadt Rostock reist. Zuerst fährt er mit seinem Bruder, der den Anblick des Elternhauses kaum erträgt. Hier erfuhren sie vom Tod des Vaters, hier wurde Walter nach dem Krieg verhaftet. Neben der eigenen verfolgt Kempowski die Annäherung der beiden deutschen Staaten zwischen Angst und Aufbruchstimmung. 1990 stellt er auch "Sirius" fertig und arbeitet an "Das Echolot".
In "Hamit" gelingt Kempowski die eindrückliche Mischung aus Alltag und Politik. Mit Rostock arbeitet er Herkunft und traumatische Erfahrungen ab. Am Ende bleibt ihm von der Heimat nichts mehr als Heimweh.
