Fremde Feinde by Helmut Ortner Book Summary
Am 15. April 1920 überfallen Banditen im Staate Massachusetts einen Lohntransport, töten beide Wachmänner und flüchten mit der Beute. Schon bald konzentrieren sich die Ermittlungen auf die beiden italienischen Einwanderer Nicola Sacco und Bartholomeo Vanzetti. Sie sind Ausländer, Atheisten – und Anarchisten. Obschon die Beweise dürftig sind, werden die beiden angeklagt und in einem fragwürdigen Indizienprozess trotz weltweiter Proteste zum Tode verurteilt.
Schuldig oder nicht? Bis heute ist diese Frage nicht endgültig beantwortet, aber allein die Zweifel und das ungerechte Verfahren reichen aus, um den Fall zu einer Legende zu machen. 1977 werden Nicola Sacco und Bartolomeo Vanzetti von Michael Dukakis, Gouverneur von Massachusetts, rehabilitiert. Eine Untersuchung ergibt, dass der Staatsanwalt absichtlich "unfaire und irreführende Beweise" vorgelegt hat.
