door Jhr. Dr. Nico van Suchtelen) (Ethiek volgens een geometrische methode uiteengezet) is een filosofisch boek van Baruch Spinoza dat algemeen als zijn magnum opus wordt beschouwd. Het werd geschreven in het Latijn en in 1678 postuum gepubliceerd. Het thema van dit boek is het achterhalen van de rationele opbouw van het universum en de plaats van de mens daarin. Het is evenzeer een werk over metafysica als over ethiek. Veel onderwerpen die erin behandeld worden had Spinoza al in eerdere publicaties behandeld. De geometrische methode en de logische opbouw versterken het beeld dat het bedoeld was als een afgerond geheel.
In de Nederlandse Republiek stond het denken en zelfs de godsdienst veelal in het teken van de handel en de zeevaart. Daar gaat Spinoza tegenin. De filosofie moet als levensleer dienstdoen. In theologische kringen, vooral in Duitsland, was Spinoza daarom een hinderlijke pantheïst of atheïst.
