Atomic Habits - Summarized for Busy People: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones Summary James Clear Book by Instant-Summary Book Summary

Atomic Habits | An Easy & Proven Way to Build  Good Habits & Break Bad Ones | A Comprehensive Summary

Hired as the performance director of professional cycling for England in 2003, Dave Brailsford had his work cut out for him. For the previous century, British cyclists performed terribly, winning only one gold medal and never winning the Tour de France.
Brailsford had a plan to turn around British cycling. He called his strategy ‚ the aggregation of marginal gains. This involves deconstructing every aspect of riding a bike, and then consistently improving each aspect by 1%. Over time, these small changes compound into incredible performance outcomes.
Brailsford implemented hundreds of small improvements, both obvious (e.g. equipping better bike seats) and non-obvious (finding the best pillow and mattress so the cyclists had optimal sleep). The results were extreme. British cyclists won 66 Olympic/Paralympic gold medals, 5 Tour de France races, and set numerous world records in the decade after Brailsford began.
The image to the right shows the results of both improving and regressing by 1% every day. Over the course of a week the changes are small, but over the course of a year the changes are massive.
Over a short period of time, the effects of compounding are barely noticeable. But over longer periods of time, compounding will generate very powerful outcomes.
While many of us over-weight the importance of grand, singular moments, we also under-weight tiny changes, the 1% improvements, that occur day to day. The slow rate of change makes it difficult for us to see what transformation is underway.
Habits are a double-edged sword and can accelerate either growth or deterioration. Success or failure in any area of your life is merely a lagging indicator of the quality of your daily habits.
Here’s another way of thinking about enormity of compound interest on tiny 1% improvements – If you regress 1% a day for an entire year, it’s the equivalent of going from the height of a one story house (10 feet tall) to the height of a large apple (3 inches tall).
Habits often behave the same way as melting ice- you see no new result until you break through a certain point. This means tangible results of a new habit are delayed early on. This effort isn’t wasted, it is stored (hence the term “latent”).

Quick read. I loved reading this book. Amazing information and it was a quick and easy read. I recommend this book to anyone.

Awesome read. I love to read this book so much. Every chapters are really valuable. I like secret to self help chapter most. I highly recommend this book.

Well written. This book is composed genuinely available, read effortlessly. I was read this book. I took in a good deal of fascinating data about good habits.

Great ideas. I am usually not one to even bother reading these kinds of books, as I often feel like I had to plow through hundreds of useless prose and ideas to find one or two nuggets that actually speak to me. This book? I'd say nearly ALL of the advice seemed practical, whether it spoke to me or not, and a good deal of it seemed like something I could use and implement if I actually tried to do it. A worthy read and recommended.

Great book. A great book is one that changes you -- helps you understand a great truth that was hiding in plain sight, and helps you use that insight to improve your life. "Atomic Habits" is such a book. Thanks to James Clear, I've shifted from pursuing goals to creating new habits that are helping me become the kind of person I want to be. There's no fat in this book -- every chapter is a diamond-hard gem of insight.

Clear writing. Similar to his articles, Clear’s writing is easy to digest and engaging. His examples are simple and translatable to your daily life, making it easy to connect the dots on how to improve your routine and habits. Atomic Habits is both practical and insightful – you’ll realize how to make an immediate, and lasting, impact on your life.

Amazing read. Love that this summary hits all the highlights, but I am sure one would need to read the book for the full benefit. This is well written and a fairly quick read. It really got me curious as to how I can rebuild my "system" and keep those annoying habits at bay.

Excellent summary. There are some well-researched highlights from the book. For example, how if two people have the same goal, the one who will reach it more often (or in a more efficient or effective manner) is the one who has a process or a system. The author also does a good job of listing and then explaining more complex topics. For example: "The steps to breaking a habit are inversions of the four laws." Then he goes onto explain briefly what the four laws are. A quote often attributed to Winston Churchill goes something like, "I'm sorry for writing such a long speech but I didn't have time to write a shorter one." I don't know the standards for these summary books, but if this is almost 100 pages and the original is 300+, then we're only about a third of the original book. Sure, 100 pages take less time than 300. That said, it is well organized and a fairly easy read and did entice me to read the full original book, which, I suppose is often the aim of these summary books.

Well written summary. I was planning to read the full book, but I really liked to get its essence in a shorter time. The summary is comprehensive and able to provide you with a full picture of the idea around habits. My biggest take-away was the importance of the environment on our behaviors and habit formation.

Best book. This book is one of the best books I've read on the subject of habits, an area which spikes my interest. I've done my share of research when it comes to automatic behaviour: this book sums it all up in once easy and enjoyable read. I definitely recommend it!

Awesome. It was a life changer summary for me. Really happy with this purchase.

Easy to implement. Atomic habits quickly earned a place in my self help bible. This book I plan to revisit again and again and would recommend to anyone.

Extremely useful.. A straightforward enough summary of how you can change small things in your life to develop a lot of habits. The summary kept many of the studies in and simply described the study, what happened, and what it means for habits. While anyone with a background in psychology and have read The Power of Habit will know at least 80% of this information already, it’s a good book on what to change and why it will help.

Fantastic. Fantastic book. I've finished it and I'm grateful I purchased the physical book over the Kindle because this is a manual that I will go back and consult frequently. I can open it to any chapter and refresh my outlook and methods in some specific area of my life. I've been on a journey of constant and never-ending improvement for a while and Atomic Habits has given me golden nuggets for how to create systems rather than goals. Now I understand why some goals I set happen and some just don't, my desire for them was equal but my systems were not.

Good summary. Appreciated the quick summary on this book. Hits the highlights. I definitely got the feel and the main points of the book.
