Lago Victoria by Juan Sanz Sanz Book Summary
La propuesta que nos hemos permitido plantear es la siguiente. Debido a su altitud y al rápido descenso que sigue a continuación, el Nilo Victoria, se podría vaciar fácilmente, ahondando el cauce del Nilo unas decenas de metros. Así casi toda la superficie que cubre actualmente el lago quedaría al descubierto y podría ponerse en cultivo. Los fértiles suelos volcánicos de los países de alrededor han tenido que crear unos sedimentos lacustres muy ricos. Las lluvias en la mayor parte de él son suficientes para una buena cosecha. Con el simple vaciado del gran lago, se podría obtener una cosecha en 7 millones de hectáreas. Esta extensión es suficiente para producir alimentos para el conjunto de los cinco Estados de África Oriental, deficitarios en esta materia.
Mediante la canalización de las aguas de los ríos que forman actualmente el lago se podría obtener una segunda cosecha durante la estación seca, o el cultivo de forma ininterrumpida. Así se crearía un núcleo agropecuario cultivado intensamente, a semejanza de Egipto.
Además, este lago tiene la ventaja de que sus tierras sumergidas pertenecen a varios Estados limítrofes: Tanzania, Uganda y Kenia, que son los que tienen mayores problemas alimentarios y una población ya desproporcionada (*1984).
