Chroniques by Jean Froissart & George T. Diller Book Summary
Les précédentes éditions des célèbres Chroniques de Froissart se sont heurtées au problème inextricable des "variantes". Les principaux manuscrits divergent tellement, que l'on ne peut plus parler de variantes, mais de nouvelles rédactions, entreprises par Froissart à divers moments de sa vie et selon des optiques différentes (voir G.T. Diller, Attitudes chevaleresques et réalités politiques chez F. dans nos "Etudes de philol. et d'hist.", No 39, 1984). De sorte qu'en voulant donner des "variantes" autour d'un "texte principal", les éditions de Siméon Luce et de Kervyn de Lettenhove ont fourni de véritables mosaïques de textes. M. Diller a choisi la voie qui s'impose: publier chaque manuscrit comme une oeuvre différente. Ainsi, il a donné le Manuscrit de Rome dans les TLF (No 194) en 1972. Voici maintenant le premier tome du Manuscrit d'Amiens.
