Fu realizzato come un film per la tv e completato in meno di tre mesi. L’attrice protagonista veniva uccisa dopo soli quaranta minuti. Non c’era alcun lieto fine. E offriva agli spettatori la scena più violenta che fosse mai stata inclusa in un film americano, accompagnata da un agghiacciante stridio di violini. Non c’era mai stato niente di paragonabile a Psycho, e dopo la sua uscita nelle sale l’industria cinematografica non sarebbe stata più la stessa.
