Lo que no sabían muchos de sus tripulantes es que una conspiración para un motín se estaba cociendo en su interior y que justo cuando se divisó la costa occidental australiana, en el momento más peligroso, en medio de la noche y cerca de los arrecifes, todo iba a estallar. Mientras el comandante Francisco Pelsaert debe tomar una decisión controvertida, Jeronimus Cornelisz, su segundo, toma el control de las 250 personas sobrevivientes en una isla pequeña y seca.
