Hans-Christian Kirsch erzählt hier Geschichten von dem legendären Highway, wie sie in klassischen Reiseführern nicht vor kommen - mit jeder Menge Details und Infos über diese legendäre Straße. Dabei geht der Autor auf das Land, die Leute, ihre Sitten und Bräuche ein. Er schildert kuriose und spannende Dinge welche sich immer auf die Route 66 beziehen. Er berichtet über die Städte, die an der Route 66 liegen. Er schildert historische Begebenheiten - von der Zeit Al Capones in Chicago, über die indianische Vergangenheit in Oklahoma, über das Leben des Folk-Sängers Woodie Guthrie. Das Buch beinhaltet viele Zitate und Auszüge aus anderen Werken und bietet eine gute Grundlage für weitere Recherchen. Eine etwas andere Art Reisebericht, das, was in den neuesten Reiseführern nicht steht, lesenswert und spannend.
Eine unterhaltsame Anregung für eine gedankliche Traumreise, aber natürlich auch unentbehrlich zur Vorbereitung auf die große Tour.
