Cerdos by Thomas Macho Book Summary
Los cerdos son animales admirables pero a la vez inquietantes. Nos atraen y nos causan repulsión. Es difícil encontrar la distancia adecuada; las fronteras entre cerdos y hombres resultan poco nítidas; las relaciones, ambivalentes. Nadie quiere que le digan "cerdo" o "chancho", ¿por qué? Los cerdos encarnan lo ominoso –en el sentido de Freud– que anida en los rincones de lo familiar: lo reprimido, oculto, escondido. Quien haya visto faenar cerdos, nunca olvidará sus gritos casi humanos.
Winston Churchill dijo: "Me gustan los cerdos. Los perros nos admiran. Los gatos nos desprecian. Los cerdos nos tratan como iguales". Pero nosotros no los tratamos como iguales: los comemos. A diferencia de los pescados y los pollos, por lo general, los cerdos que terminan en nuestros platos como embutidos o fiambres no nos recuerdan la forma del animal. Constantemente comemos cerdos sin percibirlos. Este libro nos cuenta también el extenso espacio imaginario que han ocupado los cerdos: desde mitos y fábulas, poemas, teatro y novelas, cuadros, películas y proyectos artísticos, hasta carteles de publicidad, juguetes y utensilios cotidianos un poco kitsch.
