Entre varios papeles que dejó Félix de Azara en poder de su compañero y amigo, don Pedro Cerviño, se hallaba el borrador autógrafo de su Correspondencia oficial inédita sobre los trabajos de demarcación: documento importante, que contiene la historia de las controversias suscitadas por los Comisarios portugueses, con varias observaciones sobre el tratado de 1777.
En él se señalan los errores de los negociadores; sobre todo el de hacer pasar la línea de demarcación por dos ríos (Ygurey y Corrientes), que, o no existen, o no se hallan donde ellos los habían colocado. Solo al cabo de muchas investigaciones pudo descubrirlos el autor de esta correspondencia, el primero en el Yaguarey, o Igurey de d'Anville, y el segundo en el río Appa.
