Die reellen Zahlen by Daniela Dossing Book Summary
vorchristlichen Jahrhundert noch beherrschte die Vorstellung, daß alle Dinge in ganzen Zahlen ausgedrückt werden können, das Weltbild. Dieses wurde von den Pythagoreern, einer einflußreichen mathematis chen Schule, geprägt. Allerdings war es auch ein Pythagoreer, nämlich Hippasus von Metapont1, welcher durch die Entdeckung inkommensurabler Streckenverhältnisse dieses Weltbild zerstörte und sich dafür die Strafe der Götter einhandelte. Er hat am Pentagramm, dem Ordenssymbol der Pythagoreer, festgestellt, daß hier zwei Strecken nicht kommensurabel sind, d.h. nicht in derselben Maßeinheit angegeben werden können. Wagt man nun den Sprung ins 19.Jahrhundert, so muß man feststellen, daß in dieser Zeit nun zahlreiche Versuche zur Präzisierung des Begriffs der reellen Zahlen unternommen worden sind. Einige dieser Präzisierungsversuche sollen nun in den folgenden Abschnitten näher besprochen werden.
