Full of errors, trite and inaccurate. This review is based on reading the 90 page sample. Its trite prose and verbose narrative does little to paint an accurate portrait of the combat crews and their missions. As a bit of a WW2 aviation scholar i cringed at one stupid error after another. From misquoting Goering (it should be "call me Meier"; "call me Mueller" makes no sense and is simply inaccurate), to describing the peril of ditching in "the Atlantic" when they were over the North Sea (albeit a marginal portion of the Atlantic but certainly vague or misleading to call it that), to describing the roar of 134 engines starting (divide by four, that means two engines didn't start?), to the grossly inaccurate vernacular, the errors go on and on. There was so little substance to the first 90 pages that I found no reason to purchase this book. I would hate for Tail-End Charlies to be given credence or standing by anyone wanting to learn about this segment of history. There are too many other great books about this subject matter, including many that incorporate the true words of combat crewmen, to recommend this trite, inaccurate "piece of work." Sorry guys, but you just don't seem to have the Right Stuff.

Tail-End Charlies. Nichol and Rennell are outstanding historians and Tail-End Charlies, along with The Last Escape are masterpieces.
